First Ill say sorry I posted this in someone elses topic thinking I was in a different window. I would delete it if I knew how to but don't lol. Anyway I making a new discussion because this has got me really worried. I have recently been mad an offer for a job by AT&T and I'm currently in the background check process with HireRight. How do they verify the work history? Do they call the numbers you provide? The reason I ask is in my previous job I almost ended up losing it because they had problems verifying my work history. They finally were able to verify when they called my previous manager who was able to verify it for me. Thats all I really have to be able to verify it if for some reason they have problems with it. I don't have the W2 forms handy to send within 48 hours which is what I've read they request. Sorry if I seem to be rambling, I have just needed a job for a while with my wife being the only one working and would hate if this happens again and its cost me a job. Also if they can verify my most recent one but not the others, would they most likely rescind the job offer? My most recent on is the one with the actual type of job experience needed for the job I was offered. |

@ john Hire rite does not mess around they do call your employers and they will ask for dates employed there salary etc. if they cannot reach someone they will ask for verification and it must be sumbmitted within 48 hrs . I would recommend you contact your local irs office and see if you can get a copy of your w2 for every year you worked there . That is what they will want to see and if your local irs office cannot provide you with that then you need to contact the irs to get that info . I would also be upfront with your hr mgr about the situation . They do check back 5 years worth of work history . 10 years worth of criminal , driving record , court records and etc. They will rescind the job offer if anything on your backround cannot be verified . it cost my friend a job there because of it . AT&T does not mess around when it comes to this stuff. If you have any more questions feel free to ask and will try to help you out the best i can .

Thanks for the info. Would they call the numbers I provide for them to verify ? Or do they use numbers in their own database? Not sure if that makes sense or not but I can provide them with my managers contact info for them to verify with them directly but something tells me that that won't be enough. Will it? If they can't verify it, do you think AT&T will give me a chance to let them verify with the managers? |

If they can't verify it, do you think AT&T will give me a chance to let them verify with the managers? they will actually call the number u provided... i gave them my old work number for a company that was no longer in business and they wrote back saying they never got an answer (REALLY???) I could've told them that. so, just give the number and if they need anything further give them the managers number. i think ur best bet is to get the faxes from the IRS it's free, easy, and quick! i'm not quite sure if the manager's info will suffice. but u never know. |

john, Summer lover is right your best bet is to get the free faxs from the irs . Its the quickest way . I had to do that cause my last employer went out of buisness and they dont care if you have a number to a manager . Hire rite wants proof cause i tried to give them the number to my old mgr and they were like get your w2s so i did and it worked out fine. If they ask for the number then give the mgrs number . I wish you the best in the hiring process and good luck :) |

Ok if they call the numbers I provided it won't be a problem. Now one thing that may be a problem is one of the numbers is a Cell phone to the manager, because thats all I had, though it is a company phone. Would that be a no no ? I'm so nervous about this especially since it comes down to me verifying the truth, I will be so upset if I have the same problems as before and its cost me a great job. If they do give me any problems I really hope AT&T is willing to work with me. I hope I'm just over reacting for no reason but I don't have a good feeling. |

@ john Unfortunetly john thats how my friend was not hired for at&T because she only had a cell phone number for her previous employer . Even though she could provide paystubs and w2s for that job they wanted a phone number to the company to talk to the hr rep there . She was unsucessful at accomplishing that due to the company going out of buisness. My friends hr rep didnot care . They want what they want and they dont give u any leeway for anything like that . I know she has had a horrible experience through the whole hiring process and my experience hasn't been the greatest either with all of the run around they give you. I am still waiting to hear on the final offer and i dont know what is going on because my hr rep unfortunetly is clueless. I dont mean that in a bad way but it seems like everytime i talk to her she doesnt know anything . She just keeps on telling me to wait to hear and my backround and drugscreen have been back for 9 days already . I know from reading the forum alot of other people seem to be having issues also. I wish you good luck and let us know how you make out. |

Well I'm still waiting. Hopefully everything goes well but if not I'm not gonna beat myself up about it. I already signed the offer sheet so hopefuly they don't care too much about the past work history if for some reason they can't verify it. My last job shouldn't be a problem verifying, but when I got that job they had problems verifying my other 2 jobs.. What I find odd is that I was giving an offer sheet before any testing or background check was done. I have never seen that before. Every other time it has been the other way around. I at least hope they contact me if they have any problems. |

So, I was never contacted by hireright. But today I get a call from my hiring manager who tells me they were able to verify the jobs but 2 of them came back with different dates. So I call hireright and they ask for w2 forms, and I tell them I can try and get them but it would take a bit. I don't know how you guys got your copies so quick I have been getting the run around. Anyway I gave them the numbers to my previous managers since my start date is very soon and I prolly won't get the w2's in time. And to be honest I would prefer not having to send out my w2 forms. I don't know if its me or not but HireRight just seems shady. Anyway I don't know how they received the information they received but I hope they can get in contact with my previous managers because I don't know if I'm going to send out those w2's even if it does depend on me getting the job. I just knew I would run into problems. I googled the company even more after looking into them and found some horror stories... I asked the manager if it would effect my standing for the position and they told me yes. So I'm gonna start sending out some more resumes just in case. I gave them the phone number to the executive office for boths jobs with 2 previous managers who still work for each company so they should not have any problem. They had me working at one job for only 2 months... unbelievable. |

Well after having them tell me that they would be able to call and verify now they are saying they require w2 forms. Every single time I call I get someone different and different information. I've researched this company a lot since this all started and they have a very big tendency of doing things like this. I was about to send them the forms after convincing myself to do it since I turned down 2 other job offers for this. But I'm deciding against it. I really hope everyone else has a better experience with this company. Maybe it was just my experience with the reps I spoke with, but this company seems very shady, and I feel uncomfortable with the information they already have. I ended up declining moving further and accepted a different job offer. This was beyond ridiculous and I will never apply for a company that uses HireRight again. |

@ john I also had issues with hire right . you are right they are shady ! I finally provided them all the info that was requested and i am still waiting on a final hiring decision. I called the irs and they were able to fax me the documents that were required but it was a very lengthy wait with the irs. i wish you the best in your new job and im right there with you if they dont let me know something soon im moving on. i also have been sending out resumes . |

Thanks its not a job that I can move forward in but it will pay bills for the time being. I am thinking about applying to Verizon but I need to make sure they do not use HireRight because I won't be dealing with them again. The only number they used that I provided was the ONLY job they got right. They had me working at a job for 2 months and the licensing and classes ALONE took about that long. I could have provided them the forms but I just don't trust a company that gives you different information every single time you get in contact with them. What makes it worse is that I was giving the job, and just needed the bg to clear... complete waste of time especially having declined a job offer a lot better than the current job I'm at. |

@ john Verizion does use hireright also. I have a friend who went through the same shadyness as you and other people and gave up on the process. I wish you the best of luck in whatever you do . I totally understand your point . I have been waiting on my status with at&t for 3 weeks now and still have not heard anything. i also was given the job pending my drug screen and backround check. Everytime i call the hr rep i get no answer and u leave a message and noone returns your calls. kind of fustrating and annoying if u ask me . I am also giving up on them and continuing to send out my resumes as well. I cannot continue to wait forever for them to decide what they want to do as i have bills also that need to be paid. |

So after all this. I get a call 2 days ago from att from there chicago offices and it seems like they are willing to use my prev supervisors to confirm prev employment. Has annyone had them do this before? I feel like it was just miscommunication on their part... I dunno, at this point I will take it if they offer and if not I already figured I was out of a job with them with all the stuff hireright put me though. |

I recently got hired with At&T! They use Hireright and started my background check on Fri and I knew within 4 business days I was hired. They go back 7 years for background check and yes they use the phone #'s the applicant provides, because there is a good chance they will get someone who does not know you and there are legal ramifications that the referenced company could face!!! |

I was just hired by Verizon and they do not use HireRight...they use a company called A-Check that verified my background in less than 2 days (and I've had 7 previous employers...not sure if they called each one of them). They never contacted me for anything. My job with VZW starts next week; however, a couple of days ago I received another job offer from a company that I would rather work for (better postion, more money) and they are using HireRight and I'm terrified of the results based on the bad reviews/nightmares I'm reading on different forums. To be safe, I will start my job with VZW next week..... |

Anyway I making a new discussion because this has got me really worried. I worked 4 FAU in Boca for 17 yrs. They canned me because I was 50+ in age and making a decent salary. They spent two years degrading, insulting and just killing my self esteem. When didn't quit, They found a way to terminate me. Not easy to find a job, and interviews really scare me now. HIow do you revive self-esteem? |
