Every business has its own style. What is the office environment and culture like at Aurora Health Care? Are people dressed in business casual, jeans and t-shirts, or full-on suits? Do folks get together for Friday happy hours and friendly get-togethers? What is a typical day in the life of an employee at Aurora Health Care? |

Weeks after being hired I found out nearly all department managers had recently walked out of this hospital. Mind you this was during the worst part of the recession and this gave me pause, how bad could it be? As time progressed I found all practical decisions were made from the top down based on perceived liability and reducing costs. Heavy handed approaches to problems that make sense in the boardroom but cannot be practically applied in the real world are implemented. |

The office environment at Aurora Health Care depends on your location and what your job duties are. There is a great sense of teamwork and cross-department collaboration to ensure decisions are inclusive and support the philosophy of "Every Patient Deserves the Best Care." If something does not support that philosophy, it is simply not done. Aurora also strives for cost-effective care. In today's healthcare environment, who doesn't? So yes, corners are cut, sometimes in the management arena. These are unpopular decisions, but it keeps our direct patient care staff where we need them - at the bedside. Although most office work is done in business casual attire, upper management generally wears business professional attire. Many departments do get together for social events outside of work time. However, not all departments do. Team building is encouraged on and off work time, however, it depends on the manager and the team members. If social events are important to you, ask during the interview. Every year, Aurora conducts a confidential survey asking employees about job satisfaction, if they would recommend Aurora to their friends/family and if they have considered looking for employment outside of Aurora in the last 6 months. Although I cannot find the exact statistics at the moment, Aurora employees rank in the top quartile for job satisfaction in each of these categories, often about 90% satisfaction. I have been an employee at Aurora for almost 2 years and couldn't be happier. |

Wisconsinite in Milwaukee appears to be an Aurora Health Care Corporate shill protecting Auroras online corporate image. My own personal experience with Auroras confidential survey asking employees about job satisfaction known as the independent Pulse Survey had rated several areas of the hospital in the single digits. Management was rated consistently around 8% satisfaction for three years in a row but only superficial changes and empty promises were made to appease the department. The one theory is that the Aurora corporation couldn't find another manager willing to enforce such badly designed patient care policies while working for such low pay with poor benefits. |
