One word... don't. They had the nerve to let go of 700 people and then sponsor a race car. They call their portion of FICA taxes a BENEFIT to their employees, when in fact it is a LEGAL OBLIGATION THAT THEY DO SO!!!!

I have been there 6 years with no promotion in title and haven't even reached the midpoint of my salary range.

Just walk away.

I worked at BB&T for 2 years and would still be there today if they hadn't relocated our office too far away from my house. I got promoted within 10 mos of working there and got promoted again a year later. To date, that has been my favorite job and place of employment. I absolutely recommend it!

ex-teller for BB&T in Greenville, North Carolina

There must be something about BB&Ts in North Carolina because I worked there for close to two years and I was not impressed. Here they hire through a temp agency and they tell you that they will make you permanent at 90 days, but then 90 days comes and goes and you are still a temp - with NO BENEFITS. And it isn't just me. One guy in one of the other branches here was with them for 14 months before they made him permanent and that was because he threatened to quit. The only raise I got the whole time was a quarter and that was when I got on permanent and by the time you pay for the benefits you wanted you were back to what you had before the raise. I absolutely do not recommend it.

They are the worst company to work for. People are not recognized for there hard work and dedication, instead you haveto be the bosses ass kisser or best friend. People dont get promotion in that company because they are reserve for the bosses friend or family member that work with them on jobs several years ago. And they wonder why there turn over rate is so high. back stabbing, prejudice, and gossipping was what the company was founded on I think.

If you have intention of working for bbt think again, I still work there though looking for another job before I leave. Bbt jus use people to meet their needs which will never be met because it is going down the drain, it only needs time.

BB&T has been a good company to work for but when it comes to backing the employee, it doesn't happen. You never know what will happen day to day in situations dealing with money. Remember the quote - the customer is always right - it doesn't matter how much documentation to prove you gave the right amount of money, or if the customer committed fraud, the teller always loses.

I like to play the devil's advocate in situations like this so don't take it to heart. Businesses are not devils. In the case mentioned above it is clear what the company did. It wasn't "nerve" it was a sound business practice. Laying off a bunch of employees saves the company those salaries and if that doesn't work as well as expected, then you can sponsor a race car and save money again by being able to write off the cost as a tax deduction.

BB&T doesn't care about their employees. I worked there for 19 years and was let go because I didn't get the referrals and points required for my position. I wasn't even offered any other type of position as an option. I recommend finding somewhere esle to work.

I worked for BB&T. The first 6 months was great! I was good at my job, I was very accurate in balancing my cash box, I even got a raise at my 6 month review. Then I injured my foot and it all went downhill from there. They wouldn't honor my doctor's notes, continued putting me on the drive-thru (which at our particular one you couldn't sit down while running transactions), told me "they [the doctors] can't tell me where to put you. They fired me.

DO NOT WORK FOR BB&T. The only way you will do good and get raises as well as promotions are to Kiss up to everyone. That should be their motto. "Kiss up to everyone you see" We had to Kiss up to all of the clients no matter what, we had to do what they wanted because if BB&T got a complaint about anything from a client, you will get fired and they are constanly laying people off. Also the raises are real petty!

It may have less to do with racism, and more to do with the fact that you can not spell. Also your grammar and lack of ability to execute the English language may have got you the above results. Seems to be a problem with the majority of the other complaints as well.

I have worked a BBT for several years.
At first it seemed like an ideal situation; the hours and pay were good, there was the opportunity for education regarding the banking industry and the opportunity to advance in my career.
Until a couple of corporate scandals and the resignation of our CEO turned everything upside down.
The only classes we now attend are those required to keep us up to date on current and/or new policy and procedure.
We have been told we will not be getting our raises this year.
Our work schedule is now an ever changing joke due to the fact that it is now planned by a computer program that no one seems to be able to program. 'Plan-It'.
We work when the program says the bank is most busy. Which means that we are expected to be available from 8 am to 6 pm. Regardless. We have been told not to plan anything else during those hours.
And we are now expected to work 10 hour days while having our hours cut on less busy days. Many times this means handling all of the bank's night deposits as well as running a busy drive through alone.
This is not what I was told to be the job requirements when I was hired. We did not work 10 hour days. Employees that opened the bank left at 4. Employees that stayed until closing came in at 10 am. Employee schedules overlapped so that during the busiest times the bank was fully staffed.
It worked. And everyone was happy.
Now we are scheduled for 10 hour days working one of the busiest drive throughs in the area alone. Or working the lobby just before closing alone.
So if you walk in to a BBT now and are a bit angry at the delay in being waited on or sit at a drive through for a very long time call corporate and complain.
Sorry folks. We're human too and can only do one thing at a time.

They sent me email advising me someone else was chosen for the job. I really do wish that when companies reject you, they gave a specific reason why. I take the time to apply, they should take the time to be specific in their reasoning.

I joined BB&T in 1996 when they were still a small-mid size company - 400 branches in NC and SC. I was with them for ten yrs and fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time - rapid growth to 1100 locations in 13 states and the insurance group grew tremendously too. I became a Vice President and was well paid (or I was happy with it) After six yrs when the mergers slowed, the corporate culture flourished and the MBAs moved in. After working 60-80 hrs a week, traveling 4 days a week and much time away from my family for 5 yrs, the BB&T Training Program was beefed up which meant in order to hire MBAs, they were coddled and promised everything - I've never met so many truly detestable people in my life than those MBAS. MBA stands for Must Be an A_____.Yes - they brought a crew of twenty somethings in and had them shadow us - I do have a Bachelors from a State University. Then they slowly divided my job among three MBAs and gave them assistants and probably more money. What a fool I was. LOL. That was the least of it - our department head was reported to the CEO for stealing millions over a period of years. He was forced out and the worst scandal at the bank was swept under the rug. BB&T was a great co to work for in the early days but it is so large and such a corporate culture now, full of yes people, cowards. If you are young, go find a small to med size company that is growing - that is where you will find your experience and find your place early on. I know many people who still work at BB&T - none that are happy working there but have too much to lose by leaving. Beware and take care of yourself.

ex-employee in Florida in Fort Lauderdale, Florida

I worked in a branch in Florida for about one and one half years as a relationship teller. I ran a teller window as well as a relationship banker desk station. I would never work for BB&T again.
1. They say they promote from within but it is impossible to even apply.(to be considered one has to have the president of their state sign off which can take over 6 months to one year...which means the position is usually filled.)
2. It is more about passing on work than getting work done.
3. Their is a huge gap between relationship bankers accountability and branch managers(and higher).
4. The goals are usually nearly impossible to reach at most locations. Although I did hit goals 2 or 3 months.
5. I tried to go the coveted LDP route(which is required for anyone who wants to make over 30,000 a year) and at first could never get an application approved to be considered because of corporate BS, then the second year I got approved after 32 of 40 spots were filled when I applied the year before so I would be first as an internal. I also had an MBA with a 3.5gpa and experience with BB&T only to be told higher qualified applicants were selected.
6. A degree does not make you smart, but when a manager has clients walk out of her office to ask you questions does.
Finally, I would not work for BB&T because I feel they act like they are values driven when the main value is being cheap and lazy. They even made out branch pay for our own water to drink, yet we have Race car money. They also told all employees in Florida that they are not an advertising type bank(TV ads, etc... then after Colonial merger tons of ad's and promotions popped up.
To be successful drink the Kool-Aid and drink alot of it...make sure you do not ask why or try to improve, just stay in your current position forever and say the tag lines on the Conference calls along with a Wooohhhoooo about getting 5 new accounts per week.
