Every business has it's own style. What is the office environment and culture like at Beckman Coulter?

Are people dressed in business casual, jeans and t-shirts, or full-on suits? Do folks get together for Friday happy hours and friendly get-togethers?

What is a typical day in the life of an employee at Beckman Coulter?

I worked for Beckman 3 year ago in the Brea facility. Let me tell you this - if you are a good looking women or a white male –YES,- your career will advance. I know for a fact a women, who was a chemist, was promote to a Mechanical Engineer with out knowing the difference between a washer or a nut. I was told when I apply for an advance position even with my electrical engineering degree that” I was not tall and blond and people would not like me down south.” This is Beckman’s dirty little secret. Other people who I have worked with have had similar experience.

I was working to help implement Lean, but the environment is not conducive to this happening. There is too much pressure to make schedule, which is difficult due to parts shortages. The acting Lean Champion stabbed me in the back by terminating my contract, despite many accomplishments I made, and ability to work well with people. He only had compliments for me, until without warning he let me go for extremely minor reasons, despite the fact that they are desperate to find qualified people such as myself.

The culture is going down hill at Beckman Coulter. Their leadership is not taking the company in a good direction. There's too much work and not enough pay in comparison to other jobs out there. My friend is looking to leave before he's layed off.
