BD is not a great company. They string you along in the interview process, waiting weeks to get back to you. Then say you have the job. Again, another two weeks go by. BD then emails you saying they will let you know if you have the job. Then another two weeks go by and you never hear a thing. For a company that touts caring about people, they don't Host said: What are the average starting salaries, bonuses, benefits and travel requirements like at Becton Dickinson & Company (BD)? |

BD hired me with a class of recruits. They layed off the entire sales force within 6 months of hire because they lost the manufacturing agreement of the product. You can not tell me that was not an issue when they pulled all of us from good positions. They did not offer a good explanation and they offered a PATHETIC comp package. Look elsewhere. |

I had always heard that the top management at BD takes care of itself, and it does not filter down to the sales force or other staff. I attended their National Sales Meeting last year. I was stunned to hear the words out of the mouth of the VP of Sales at a presentation to the sales force, direct quote, "I want to thank you from the bottom of my wallet." I nearly fell off my chair. This was so tasteless and so self-aggrandizing. I have attended many sales meetings of other medical supply/pharmaceutical companies in the past, and there has always been a spirit of teamwork and "we're in this together" type of support. The way the buttons pop off the vests of their top management team is shocking and disgraceful. Holly |

Holly you mentioned you attended other sales meetings in the health care industry. What companies are you referring to? I am currently looking for a sales job in the northeast and would like to apply to companies that treat the sales force with respect.

BD is not a bad company........... they do what they have to do in a slowing economy. I was laid off from BD Biosciences yesterday (9/9/2008) along with 37 other employees. Severance is being offered (albeit far from sufficient)along with job search services. Working for Corporate America has its risks and rewards. The pay and benefits at BD are on par and if you're an active employee they take great care of you, especially as a sales rep....You just have to remember, BDX is a corporation nothings more, nothing less.... and while they(BDX) may tout that they are "Family Oriented" they are only so much as it makes their stockholders $$$$$$. |
