Best Buy Made a Big Mistake

So I get called by best buy because I passed the online interview, so I have an interview with one of the leads and pass, so then I have one with a general manager. He gives me the job offer and the drug test sheet and I go and have it done. He tells me that they'll contact me once they get all the results done. I wait about 3-4 weeks and still nothing, so I call them. The guy who interviewed me first answers the phone and told me "Don't worry, you're definitely hired.. I'll call you back shortly to see what's going on and to talk about orientation dates." He never called back that day, or the day after, so I called 2 days later and another employee answers and says "I'll take your name and phone number and give it to one of my managers right now and if he doesn't call you by close tonight, then the hiring manager will call you tomorrow sometime." I didn't get a call either of those days again. I just went in there today, which was a day later, and talked to an LOD about the situation, and he told me they "forgot" to start the background check and that there were no more spots needed for hiring. So basically, not only did they lie to me by saying they'd call me after my tests, and lie to me about me being definitely hired, but they also lied to me about calling me back 2 more times. I feel like they should owe me pay because I've sat around for a month thinking I have a job with Best Buy not looking for anywhere else. I was also wondering if anyone knew if there could be a legal case out of this.
