So I went for my first interview just this tuesday, everything seemed to go alright, I managed to catch a glimpse of some of the notes written down by the person who interviewed me and they generally said good things including, energetic, leadership skills, confident, and my military background. However at the end of the interview he said that it usually takes 48 hours to do a background check and blah blah blah and that if they don't call me back in 2-7 days then it means they went with someone else. That sounds to me just short of them saying "We don't want ya". I just wanted to see if anyone can clarify this, it's been about 3 days now and I haven't gotten a word back...should I call em or should I just start looking else where?

It never hurts to call back, but in my opinion I believe it is safe to say they decided to go with someone else. Even if they still call you back it's not a bad idea to keep looking for better opportunities.

They did say 2-7 days, I would wait until a day after 7 days and give them a call. Big companies have too many people doing too many things, and it is easy for them to assume someone called you or the file might be sitting on a desk. The "You will hear back from us in 2-7 days," is a standard for companies to state as a time frame, as they need to discuss you with other managers, your stuff needs to go through HR for a background check and verification, etc.. Give them a call!
