I also have a college degree and other retail experience, which is why I ask.

I would go ahead and bring one since you have a college degree. Even though they probably have it on the application you did online, it still shows that you are professional.

I had my second interview a week ago on 8/11/09. The guy who interviewed me told me to give them till the end of that week and they'll get back to me. He said he wanted to definitely set up a third interview. It is Wednesday now and I have not heard from them at all. I called Monday and the person who answered just took down my name and number.

If they told you they would call you then they will call you, however they are a retail store and it probably wouldn't hurt to call and inquire about it.

My store is pretty good at sticking to their word.

If you know the person who called to setup the first phone interview i would call and ask for them. Or go into the store and show your face.

ok, cool, cause i got the offer lastfriday, so tomorrow its gonna be a week. they told me theyd call me once they got the results to let me know when orientation would be. i havent been called yet, so im guessing as previous posts have shown that maybe theyre just gathering more people to go for the training. i started worrying cause i thought my dilemma mightve been a factor

I went to a Best Buy Interview a few years ago. I was Interviewed by two people actually. They were asking me stupid questions. They didn't seem like the types that could be management material or people who are interviewing material but just because you are management or interviewing someone doesn't make you qualified to do so. It was a so called fair/open house. They never called back. Oh well they can kiss my....

Good Luck everyone with your jobs at Best Buy :-)

The certifications were boring as hell. I did not learn much of anything from them. I learned a lot of what we were SUPPOSED to learn from the certs and TRUST trainings withing a week of being out on the floor. I guess the trainings help if you are completely new to the whole tech and retail scene. For me though...it just seemed repetitive. Hey Emmanuel, when do you work next man?

I'm sure a lot of people have asked this question but I thought I'd ask anyway. I was called two days after I applied to go in for an interview, they called me the next day saying to come in on Aug12(a Wed) insted of Thur, which was great. I went and I waited about six hours or more! I had my first interview after 20 mins of waiting, then six or so hours to have my second and third interview. They then gave me the drug test, which I took the following day, so the 13th of Aug. The man at LabCorp told me I should expect BB to have it in three business days, so Wed of next week. Wed comes around and no call. I, being the person who was told by the GM (I believe he was) that I had the job as long as my background check and drug test came back neg, worried. Thursday comes around and I call BB asking to speak to the manager, the girl on the phone says that the manger says to wait for your call and that the call timing is random. Now my question is, what is this call for? Do I have the job or should I look at other places? Because I THOUGHT I do have the job but they didn't sign anything, because they told me that my drug/background check had to come back neg for them to do so. So, I leave it be for a few days until I have waited for 6 or so days, so I call back on Friday Aug 21st. Before I call though, I called Labcorp and asked about my results, and both came back negative, and the woman at Labcorp said I need to call BB and say that I spoke to Labcorp and tehy told me to CALL and speak to the manager about my job. So then I call up BB, and this is a new girl who actually listens to my story and asks me to hold. I hold, and she then asks me for my name and number. I think, great they'll call me back today. No such luck. It's been now 9 days for them to have called me back since the drug tests have been in their computer system and Labcorp checked ot see if they got them, which they did, in actually 24 hours after I took the test. My Q is this: Is this normal?

One more thing: I've never had a retail job so this is why I worry so much because I'm not sure how quick they are to respond but from what I read it depends on the store that hires you. I guess I also start back at school on September 8th, which they know, and I am hoping that the orintaion is before that but if not it's okay. I just thought I'd be working for the three weeks before school so that I could get in the swing of things but obviously not. I plan on calling back on Monday and tell them that I called on Friday, etc. I was told not to go into the store but to call. There is no doubt in my mind that I do have the job I just am waiting...I assume

Hiring time frame, payscale, and application/hiring response times ALL DEPEND ON YOUR STORE! One more time, they ALL DEPEND ON YOUR STORE. I haven't posted in a while because people here keep asking the same questions without reading previous posts first.

Payscale also depends on your store, your experience, and your education. Different people will get paid differently depending on if you have worked retail before, if you have a college degree, or your age. Thats just how it works.

Orientation is lame. Its boring, but important. You'll get all set-up for your first day. Your first few days you will do e-learnings. Those are even worse.

Anyone got any new questions?

In my experience being a customer in Best Buy, evidently the only qualifications to work there are to be young, stupid and clueless. Contrary to their TV ads about being knowledgeable, the Best Buy stores in Raleigh are staffed by no one over 40, no one that has a clue about good customer service skills, and no one that knows anything about what they're selling other than the price and how to sign you up for their credit card. If you have any sense and are knowledgeable about anything that BB sells, then please do yourself a favor and apply somewhere else. You aren't what BB wants, obviously.

I applied to a Best Buy a few weeks ago. I didn't get a call, so I followed up by calling a hiring manager inquiring the status of my application about a week later. The manager then asked me for my name and phone number and told me that I should receive a call within a couple of days. It has been one week and I still haven't heard back from them. What should I do? Should I go directly to the store and ask? I really, really, need this job.

I would just like to say, as a Best Buy Customer for over 10 years, and an employee for over 5 months. Experiences as a customer vary from store to store. My store has over 10 employees aged 45-65, and all of us are very knowledgeable. Now the best buy store 40 miles away? All highschoolers who don't know much, and the store has disorganized managers. So please don't tell people not to apply at Best Buy. Because not all Best Buys hire stupid rude teenagers. My store is amazing, but like I said...I can't say much about the store 40 miles away, because they aren't that great. I love my job, I know my stuff, and I treat my customers like they are kings and queens, because thats what the public deserves.

Cows,
I've been reading your posts and you and Mark and a couple more really give me hope that I can get a job at best buy. I just turned 19 and have been trying to get a job at best buy since may. It wasn't until like a week ago that stumbled unto this site and found that in the questionnaires i should answer "strong" agree/disagree. SO i did and when i went to best buy an employee helping me find a tv also told me how he did it to get his job. He told me to come back the next day and talk to the hiring manager. So i did and she took down my information. She called me about and hour later and i missed her called. She actually left a message saying that she almost about to get off of work and wouldn't be back to work until tuesday morning. That was this past saturday. I called her back 5 minutes later and was able to talk to her. She asked me a few simple questions. She sounded like my interview was going great. I guess I am really anxious because she said she would call me back this week to set up an appointment, but on this site i see that the majority of the time the phone call leads to a specific date and time of when you have to come in to interview. It is now monday and as normal i expected no call because she told me she wouldn't be working. Should i go in to best buy tomorrow to try to talk to her? Second question is should I have only expected a call from her or do other best buy employees call as well?

It varies from store to store. At my store for example, we have some older folks. GM is over 50, one of our SOs is 52, and a couple others. No matter where you go, you will always find limited knowledge among some of the staff in varying degrees. For me personally, I feel more comfortable conversing with a customer when I have some idea when I am talking about and they appreciate it big time. Always a good feeling to see your customer go to your manager and yourself and tell you that you did such a wonderful job and were VERY helpful. I'm veering off point somewhat, basically it just comes down to the store. Bottom line, no matter where you go to shop.

Hey Amanda I just want to know which Best buy you applied for, Because I'm going what you went through... I went though all the interviews and the GM gave me the slip with the dept. I'd be working in with my starting pay as well... He said everything will Be good once I pass my drug test and background check... I should have no problems in either area... I took my drug test last Wednesday the 19th and its Been a week already with no call back or nothing... I was also wondering which labcorp you called to get your results, But as for them they do seem to take forever to get in contact with people, so I'm a little anxious to know if I'm still good with my job offer.

I agree with IanK. Thanks for venting about Raleigh stores, dianna, but I do know how bad shopping experiences through one employee can change your entire view of a company. I have no idea which store you are referring to.. but especially when you've had an experience with one employee who dis-satisfied you, you then vent and tell everyone that every single employee and BBY is terrible and no matter that store you go to we are all bad. And just so you know, the application does in fact read "are you young, stupid and clueless?" Congrats! Try another board, this is for people who are interested in working for BBY and actually need sound advice. They don't need negative opinions of angry customers.

I notice alot of people with questions about timing when it comes to getting hired, so Ill post up my recent experience for you.
1. Applied online on the Best Buy website. If you are having trouble with the personality test there are websites that will help you out, just google the name of the test. Keep in mind I applied for a seasonal position, working inventory/stock.
2. Got a call back the next day. Did the first interview over the phone, and she scheduled a second interview for a week later.
3. Went to the store for my second interview. I was interviewed by the loss prevention manager, the interview went well even though I was nervous. He said he would talk to the general manager and schedule an interview soon, and he gave me some advice for the third interview with the general manager, so I took that as a sign that he wasn't wasting my time or lying to me to be polite.
4. A few days later I got a call back, and was scheduled for the gm interview for the next day.
5. Went to the GM interview. He asked me a few questions, some of them the same exact ones asked in the second interview, and then he talked to me about pay and policies/dress code. I signed paperwork, and got the papers to take the drug test at UNICORP.
6. Took the drug test (make sure you take it as soon as you get the paperwork, you have 2 working days to take it). Got a call back from Best Buy two days later, and was scheduled for orientation. This is where Im at now.

Good luck everyone, just be patient, and apply to as many stores as you can in your area, don't spend too much time waiting for one reply from one store.

Hi guys,
I'm going to college this fall and I was looking to get a Part-Time job somewhere so I have some extra money to spend. I have worked as an apprentice plumber for 2 years, but I don't think I have time to do that now that I'm in college. I'm looking at best buy cause im very experienced with electronics and computers and think I could land a job there.

I'm wondering about the drug test.
I recently traveled to Amsterdam, where it is legal to smoke marijuana. I smoked copious amounts of marijuana for 3 days, but I have not smoked since then.
I do not smoke weed normally, but since I was in Amsterdam, it was pretty much part of the whole experience.
Do you think the management would be understanding if you failed the drug test with that explanation?
Or should I just not apply for a job there for a couple of months when I know I will be clean?

I forgot to mention that previous to my trip to Amsterdam, I have not smoked for maybe 8-10 months. Even then I was never a daily user, I might have smoked twice a week for maybe two months about 12 months ago.

My advice would easily be just wait until you are clean and then apply there. Unless your the CEOs nephew or something they will weed you out (pun intended) and not hire you even though you could turn out to be the best employee they ever had. Also if you come up positive there may be jobs you try to get that ask you if you ever came up hot on a test and they can use that against you. And then there are companies that use hair analysis to check your past and that goes back longer than a couple of months. Frito Lay is one of those and how ironic is that, a company that makes Billions because of the munchies and they test your hair. Good luck and stop having an Amsterdam good time......LOL

I'm also in Portable Electronics. Here it includes: Dvds, Cds, Digital Cameras, Camcorders, Ipods/MP3 Players, Video Games, and Car Audio.

My GM interview went really well. Our GM went through a list of questions from a sheet of paper that he had in his GM interview packet. It was about 20 questions long. He asked about why I wanted to work at best, how would I reward an employee who was doing really well, what would I do if someone stole either an employee or customer, where do I see myself in 5 years, whats my greatest accomplishment, etc.

I hope that helps!

Usually if your going to your GM interview you did something right. I would just keep your energy high and just be really personal during the interview. My GM had that gm interview packet like I was talking about in the pervious post and in that packet, the job offer was already attached. I think the only way you don't get a job is if your not a people person and say that stealing is cool haha.

I personally haven't dealt with GPS systems yet. I'm not sure if I will be learning that or not. On a scale of 1-5, I would say a 2. If you like talking to people, then it's a pretty easy job. If you do get the job the certifications take a little bit but it's nothing to worry about. Our store really makes sure you know everything before taking them. Good luck!

So, i still havent been called back for orientation. Friday will be 2 weeks since i filled all the paperwork and took the tests. Last friday i called first and asked when orientation would be, the girl on the phone told me the person that would know was in an orientation and to leave my name and number, so idid. I went to the store later that day to talk with the manager, she told me that the orientation was for a group that was hired before i was. She also said theyd call either sunday or monday. No calls either days. I was told by a friend that they still had 4 open cashier positions. Im thinking theyre waiting to fill those positions. Im gonna call tomorrow and inquire again. Any advice?

I went to the store later that day to talk with the manager, she told me that the orientation was for a group that was hired before i was. She also said theyd call either sunday or monday. No calls either days. I was told by a friend that they still had 4 open cashier positions. Im thinking theyre waiting to fill those positions. Im gonna call tomorrow and inquire again. Any advice?

Ok, I'm thinking about applying at Bestbuy this coming Monday. I'm 18 and have been working at my first job as a lot porter at a Auto Dealership for about a month now. I'm also currently enrolled to start community college next week. I'm not exactly sure I qualify for sales and geek squad positions but I feel like I have the knowledge required. For instance a basic qualification for electronic sales is "6 months of retail sales or customer service experience". I don't have 6 months but I am great with people and answering their questions, in fact i get great enjoyment out of helping people with their tech problems and needs... Can I still get a job in sales even without 6 months of experience or am I pretty much stuck with a cashier job despite my abilities?
