Everyone I know that works for Best Buy (or the times I've shopped there) have always been great. You guys with crappy experiences, I feel sorry for - 'cus the Best Buy's out here are pleasant to go to. If you are getting the cold shoulder, take a public speaking class, I'm sure they are feeding off your vibe and see it as "this person isn't going to come off well to a customer". I took public speaking in high school and college, and it did wonders for being able to keep my cool in a conversation, regardless of topic. That, or practice with your friends/family. It sounds like a lot of you aren't under-qualified, it sounds like you shoot yourself in the foot by poorly representing yourself in the actual interview. Hence no call-back. They wouldn't even call you in the first place if you weren't of interest to them. I applied, got a call-back in 2 days, did my 1st interview on the phone on a Saturday. Went for my 2nd that next Wednesday w/the Asst. GM, and had my 3rd w/the GM on Saturday (today). Got the job and all went smooth. Just have to keep calm and come across to the interviewee that you know what you're talking about. |

Is it possible to apply for more than one job without creating a different account for each?
is it possible that they aren't taking applications even though the jobs are still posted?

Hi, I just just started working for best buy in a town called Muncie, IN. We have ball state university located in our town which makes getting jobs very hard. I got fired from my other job due to payroll cuts and was desperate for work and I had been trying at bb for about 5 years. I put in my application online and went in and spoke to the store manager directly. After taking for about 10 min she looked me up and offered a interview. They key is to go in person and talk to manager and brag about how awesome u are and how u could help company out. If u just call...it won't do any good. I never did that till about a month ago when I got hired on. I love it there people are nice and helpful and company offers lots of programs and contests and all kinds of Awesomeness. |

I just went through my 3rd interview with the GM again today(2nd time going through the interview process) and still no job offer on the table. I did do better this time around as the GM was more talkative and upbeat and asked if I knew anyone who currently worked at Best Buy(maybe wants to use her as a reference). Said I will get a call in the coming days if I was selected to work for them. I'll try to keep you guys updated. |

I recently applied to Best Buy 5 days ago for Cashier. I have no prior experience but I did feel confident passing the personality test. Should I wait for a call or call them back and ask about my status? |
|
dustin in New Castle, Indiana 8 months ago |
i would go in and talk to either store manager or other higher manager, dont call and definatly dont wait for a call. best way to get a call back is to talk to a manager. make it look like u want that job, that ur willing to put in the effort that you really want that job. |

So i'm 16 and I am almost finished and certified in CCNA. I have passed the first and second semesters 1/2 passing both exams and finishing up 3/4. I have had experience with routers switiches, patch cables, making crossover cables, maintained a server etc. I am currently a tennis instructor with the ID Tennis Association, and started a racket restringing company. So i decided to apply for the Geek Squad Computer Tech a while back, but I noticed i didn't have a personality test. So i took it, and again the same thing. I'm wondering if this is just with the position or something else. How are they supposed to review an application if I took it again with no personality test? I really want this job, it would be awesome!! |

It definitely is NOT Best Buy as a whole that is a bad place to work because of the managers/employees because every manager or person I've had to deal with in this process has been extremely nice, talkative, and friendly. Anyways, I went in for my interview 15 minutes early and then proceeded to wait for another 10-15 while the GM was interviewing someone else. After patiently waiting next to geek squad for a half an hour the GM came out and greeted me with a big smile and thanked me for being so patient. She was extremely nice and the interview was extremely comfortable. By that I mean she was constantly smiling, seemed very happy with everything, and I even was making her laugh quite a bit too! I killed the interview, again, and in no less than 10 minutes she offered me the job! We talked about pay, hours, discounts, etc. for a little bit and she gave me my drug test papers and that was about it. So overall the process took me less than a week to complete, and everyone was great to deal with. But I am super excited to work there now! |

Well i was hired recently and i cant speak for anyone, but my managers are definitely the type that expect you to sell geek squad/services with pretty much anything. I've already gotten a "talk" with my supervisor because I haven't been pushing it onto customers. I guess im not really the pushy type but when someone says to me "no thanks i'll pass" I dont throw myself in front of them and beg em to buy it.

If you have to ask how to get the job and can't figure it out, you're not going to get the job. I've worked there for over a year and Best Buy doesn't need people who aren't independent enough to figure out how to get the job. |

TheDaeWoo in Amissville, Virginia 6 months ago |
I have to agree with broseidon, I got a job there and its not how I thought it would be. Let me say it in simple terms. They don't pay you commission, but they make it as if you are working on commission. Sell this, sell that, and oh, when you get the job, its like you still don't officially work there, their training takes a while before they say well, here's your blue shirt. Its about a month to a month and a half before you get your Best Buy uniform, I even have a friend who worked at a different Best Buy that said, her Best Buy would have them do stuff before they can earn their shirt and then like a manager would do a role play with you to see how you are before you are handed your shirt. Above all, its a cool place to work at when it comes to the atmosphere of the place, you know, you being around things you like, and the employees are friendly, the managers can be cool but they do push the sales, and I do mean push. I think that's how Best Buy makes their money, because they don't pay their workers commission and such. Anyways, this forum is for people who want to know a little about getting the job, so here's what happened with me. Applied, got a call like I believe the next day, interview on Friday. A few days later, I believe Wednesday or Thursday got a call for a second interview on the weekend. Drug test on Monday, then like almost 2 weeks later, got a call for orientation, then after that they tell you to come in on a certain day for training, training is about like a month or until you get "use to it". Then finally you get your uniform and your officially in. Meetings are like this; "we dont make money just selling a computer or a TV, you guys have to attach the black tie protection, accessories, etc etc" Ughhh Oh well, good luck out there people. |

hi there all! I have to first of say that i disagree with quite a few of you. I love working for Best Buy. I'm a MCSA myself, so there is always people calling to check the prices of things and complaining. Oh well. Those days happen. I also sometimes get to be on the register! YAY! Anyways, everyone at work is super nice to one another. Our store is apparently really bad with customer service too. The interview process was very interesting. I actually went to the store not knowing that they were having a job fair that day! Hooray! My friend and myself went there and we had to fill out the application. I didn't mind, not like i had anywhere to be that day. So we filled out the app, waited a half hour for it to be in their system. My friend and i went out for lunch. The workers were really nice, saying oh, go out. we'll keep looking for the apps. After lunch we came back and it seemed my app was there but my friends wasn't. They told him that if he wanted he could send it through again. But i was put into an interview almost immediately. I first went through the Geek Squad manager, asking questions like, why best buy. what would you do. Stuff like that. I felt i did really well considering he said that I went through to the second interview. Well. The next person i saw was the GM, for my second interview. Needless to say I got the job after that interview. My friend, decided against resending his app in. and it probably cost him the job there as well. Whenever I'm there, i try my hardest to be super polite to the customers and my coworkers, and i think that's a reallllll big part of it. |

I would like to apply as a Geek Squad CIA computer tech. I am very good with computers and technology and I have built my own computer. What I am wondering about is a few of the questions on work experience in the online application for CIA. The description for the job says nothing about work experience being required, but there are some questions on the application similar to have you had at least 6 months customer service experience, etc. Do you think answering no to these questions will disqualify me (the "at least" scares me)?

It's really not worth all the work guys, take it from someone who has been working at Best Buy for the last 5 months. There are many other jobs out there that pay better and/or have less responsibility. I am sure a lot of this depends on the location but at mine, the managers are horrible. They are so disconnected with the sales floor and have no idea what ramification their decisions based solely on numbers end up having. They have no regard for your availability(maximum hours available are laughed at, they assume everyone wants to be full time, or as close to as possible, not true for us college students) and continually make the job worse with stupid changes such as, not being able to keep a drink under your register, not being able to talk to your coworkers, due to needing to 'zone', or stay in separate areas of the department at all times, and the amazing amount of pressure put on you to preform at insane levels, which is impossible to do with the method put in place called 'sales excellence'. Honestly a job as a clerk at your local mini mart would pay about the same and have less pressure from the management.

2 year vet. -You must offer the Best Buy card to EVERY customer. Management expects 1 per shift. You go 3 shifts without an application and you talk to your supervisor. 5 you talk to the Customer service sup and 7 you talk to the GM. -You MUST ringout every sale you make. When you ring up a customer there is a software that records the sale and lets managers see EXACTLY what you sold. They can see if you're selling the geek squad protection and if the customer used their reward zone card. -You must contact every customer you see. Expect to help other departments. You work in gaming but you will get called to help in computers. The stupid motto is "one team one dream". -The pay sucks. You get a raise every year and it's not much. My 1 year raise was 15 cents. -Expect to work past your scheduled time. Says you get off at 10:30. Managers will ask you to stay till 11 to help other departments close. -DO NOT WORK HERE IF YOU'RE IN COLLEGE! My grades suffered because work took up all my time. The company has a minimum on hours. If you don't meet the requirements because of classes they will drop you. -You'll get picked on all the time by managers that are in their 30-40s and are angry that they will not go anywhere in life. They are a Best Buy manager making crap money. They'll tell you your sales are worse than others in your department. -Expect to get up early on the weekends. If you don't get enough Best Buy credit card applications you'll get scheduled for a 7am sunday morning training where you have to offer the card to managers and other employees. -Oh and the discount isn't what it use to be. The Best Buy term is "cost plus 5%" you use to be able to get stuff super cheap. For example, if an item costs $100 retail. Awhile back you could get that item for $10. Now the term is "cost plus 5%, not to exceed 50% off." So that $100 item you can only get for $50 now. |

I have applied to work at BB a few times, trying to get a job on the Geek Squad. I went into and asked the manager if they have had an opportunity to look over my application, he said not yet, and took my name and phone number, and asked me a few questions about my history with computers, I answered, telling him how I first learned on a Mac, and since have worked on Windows, and my own Linux computers, also working on friends and grandparents computers. After that, he said he would look over the application, and I thanked him and left. Several weeks later, after not hearing anything, I reapplied and went back into the store a week later, and asked to speak to the manager. After a few minutes of waiting, some manager from another department came to help me, He said that their guy that does the applications has been out, but I should be expecting a call within the next couple days, and proceeded to write my name down, he wrote my fist name down, which was odd, because I had only given my name the first time I went in, a few weeks ago, and had not mentioned it at all this time. That was yesterday, today I received a call from the guy I was told I would get a call from. He asked me about my experience with computers, thanked me, and hung up. I am wondering, was that an interview? Should I be expecting another call? Or should I go into the store tomorrow and ask to talk to the person who deals with applications and ask him about what is next in the process? Thank you for any help you provide. I am new to the forum, and am 17. Any help is greatly appreciated, Also, this would be my first job. P.S. (Sorry for such a long post.) |

You guys are giving false info all around, just because YOU landed a job with BB on your first in person interview doesn't mean everyone else will. I have worked at several places and only had 1 of them give me a job on the spot and that was only because my bro helped me on that 1. Wal-mart it took about 2-3 days to get back with me after my 1st interview which I got my first interview 2 days prior to applying, Mcdonald's took about a week, Hardees took about 2 days, and Ross took about a week. It just depends on who gives the interview & how desperate they are to hire & usually if a store is that desperate to hire then they have pretty bad management and you should probably stay away. So give it 4-7 days before following up if they don't call so you can let them know you're still interested |

I'm pretty sure BB does not have "stocking" positions, i'm infact pretty positive they don't. |

hey guys, so i've been looking through this forum and it amazes me how bestbuy hires their workers. I'm planning on applying for bestbuy because i go to their store every weekend to pick something up. Yeah, so for some people who are having interviews i have some tips for you guys:
So right now, I am trying to look for my SSN so that i can fill out the SSN portion of the application.
i just had a mock interview for my clinical health class and i passed it, and i hope to pass my interview with the employers of Bestbuy. Good luck to all applicants. |

Not a fan of BBs online app system. No follow up emails or anything, its just you take the personality test and that's it. Also their job postings seem to be outdated and I realized I was probably applying for jobs that have been filled. I know I am qualified for the jobs and the personality test is very straight forward / common sense / use the answer you know they wanna hear blah blah. Id recommend just going to the store your interested in and getting an app / talk to the manager straight up. |

So I finished my interview and then they set up an interview with the GM on tuesday. They also gave me the drug test paperwork after I finished the interview. Did i get the job? why do I have to take a drug test before the GM interview? (I will pass the drug test) |
|
kiani2025 in Potomac, Maryland 2 days ago |
So they can OFFICIALLY hire you and know that you have the credentials to be hired...Also makes it easier on there part |

so i just went in for the GM interview and he asked me questions like the first interviewer. This morning i had my drug test then i went to the meeting. After he was done he said i cant officially offer you a job till probably friday. so i guess i have to play the waiting game now. any thoughts? |
