What are the average starting salaries, bonuses, benefits and travel requirements like at Black & Decker? What do you like best about working at Black & Decker? Are there any great perks or special treats for employees?

I was the second generation of Black & Decker employee
in my family, oddly enough holding a position that pushed out the position of "Manufacturers Representative" several years ago. If you are looking into the "Tool" arena for a career, you would be a bit on the less adjusted side for looking past this Marketing Power House! I have worked for B&D for a couple of years and found the Co. to have its political ups and downs. The foundation is understandably tip-up one part integrity, two parts sweat, and one part sales, sometimes working alone and sometimes(Unless Bachelor Degreed)out in the Wind. There training is tailored towards the fresh Vegetables that still have a huge capacity for getting behind & embracing the newly found creation of "Career". While I have found this to be less than lack luster with more than a few sharing my common interest, I can not really say enough about this potential Career Move. Solid Company, solid product, less than solid pay. Do not expect to make a lot of money annually to start. The bonuses are decent, but to closely tied into "Integrity" like a sober Picasso painting, or it just did not happen. Over all
these are standard political kinks that will eventually work themselves out. But in the meanwhile,
I will take a similar job with a brutally higher annual salary and say "Thank You" Black & Decker for being recognized as a GREAT TRAINING COMPANY.

Yes, it is true that B&D is a great training company. I can personally attest to that as a current employee looking to leave now. As far as salaries go.... there is a lot to be desired there. Don't come to B&D for money because if you do you will be greatly disappointed. Come to B&D to learn and train and then leave for the big bucks. This is what most people do. The company is great to work for and provides a good name on your resume.

B&D sounds like the typical company for this decade. Believe me, they are no worse than any other company and in many instances would be considered so much better.
I think as of right now, people would be satisfied with the salary offered and the opportunity to just be a B&D employee. I have always envied the B&D manufacturer representatives or retail specialists. I have not been fortunate enough to be selected as one despite my depth of experience as a sales representative and a merchandiser calling on major home centers and hardware/lumber stores.
B&D produces quality products. I would be honored to represent such a company. We should all embrace the careers we choose no matter what age or how "fresh" we are per career experience; that is if we have chosen the right one that matches our personality, drive and ambition. If one doesn't feel that way or feel that enthusiastic everyday about the career path they have chosen, then one should explore other careers.
