Do you work at BNSF Railway? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview?

Any advice for someone trying to get in?

You need to put your application in at www.bnsf.com/careers/ hit the apply now button. Watch your email and if you are invited to test and interview they will contact you by email to attend a group testing. You will take a test relating to your field, and you will take a drug test. They will then reject you or accept you BY email. If you are accepted you are hired, but it is depenent on you passing their physical exam. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO WATCH YOUR EMAIL DAILY THIS IS THE ONLY WAY THEY WILL COMMUNICATE WITH YOU! Test dates, acceptance, dr appointments etc.

I know this is from quite a long time ago, but I work as an intermodal coordinator and manage the intermodal facilities in Chicago. I work at the headquarters for BNSF in Texas. I know that right now the Corwith yard is hiring. I would not suggest the Cicero yard. The guys are a lot different there and there's a lot of politics.

Yes, there is a medical evaluation....i didnt do bloodwork, but I had a dr. Appt, hearing, and vision test. You must disclose any medical conditions and medications you take etc.

Dont let your weight keep you from applying! I hired out with a group and there were two extremely large women. The test is an aptitude test like percentages, basic math, grammar etc. Its nothing complicated at all, but a lot of people fail it. Also there is a typing test as well. Hurry and apply its very hard to get on with the company and they often take jobs down early once so many people apply.

Apply online at BNSF.COM/CAREERS. Get trained and be prepared to do your best to protect your job for the next 30 years. The money is GOOD, but don't try to have a family. Given fact, VERY HIGH DIVORCE RATE. Didn't think it would happen to me....former military with deployments. And, God forgive you if you get hurt on the job...... the BNSF completely forgets how much money you have made for them, who you are and that you have a family!

I have tried to apply to every BNSF trainee programs and was shot down every time within 8 hrs. of applying. Being a veteran, they don't seem so veteran friendly as they state. I meet all the required criteria to their specifications, and within 8 hrs I get the "thanks and so sorry, keep trying" routine. This also was the same response that happened a few years ago with this company. it's almost as if they only hire and promote from with in. I understand Their are generations of RR workers and it can be tough for an outsider to get their foot in the door, but this is ridiculous. Sounds fishy to me. I've given up on this company. Still plugging at others

Hi there. It is really important that your resume have key words or buzz words for industry. I believe bnsf hires out the initial selection process that selects possible candidates. Third party firms are going to use query searches for those buzz words to find applicants. If your resume doesn't have words specific to the job you're applying for, it will be passed over. try things related to safety, leadership, time management, multitasking, clear and concise communication.
