Hello all,

Just wondering how many of you out there who got a job at Boeing are still waiting for their start date? and or how long does it normally take from the time you complete your contingencies till someone tells you when your first day at work will be? I completed all my contingencies about 2 weeks ago and still haven't gotten my start date. Every time i e-mail the HR she replies back with the exact same question about if i took my drug test or not which i did several weeks ago.

thanks

I am in the same boat. Tomorrow will be two weeks. I contacted my specialist and they are still waiting on the background check. Your specialist should know right away whether you took your drug test because the lab sends the results right away. I would definately call and see what is going on.

Yea i them about 2 weeks ago. Once the background check is done the move goes fairly fast. But the background check took a really long time, more than a month.

Wow. Most the people that I talk to say the background check only takes about 2 weeks. They start the background check once they prepare the offer. Once you get your offer and accept it then you have 2 business days to complete your package. It really took them a month to complete the background check for you? Today is now 2 weeks since I completed my package and all of it has cleared accept for the background check...still waiting for the call the set my start date...

The background check usually takes 2 weeks but I suppose it will take longer depending on how complex your employment history is. Plus, having a third party conduct the background check probably adds to the turn around time. It's important to keep in contact with your rep so you can find out immediately if additional verification is needed, i.e. W-2 or transcript. Mine was delayed by a week because I did not know that they needed a W-2 until I called them to ask for status.

My backround took two weeks in all...after this was cleared: "nothing" from my HR REP?.... I called,e-mails,,HR and still "nothing" - So I Picked uP the Phone and callED the Boeing Nurse on my own for help...She set it up and she cleared it on the system...the next day... I have n't heard from my HR contact for 3 weeks now...and everything on my list,is been done
SO, now i'm waiting for HR to give me a start date,,???
I had thought my HR contact was on vacation, yet the meg says they were at the job fair the other day? Why don't they keep us in the loop,or e-mail us/call..? I get their really busy , but to leave us in limbo,,is odd?... Jumping though all the hoops to get this far,and no reply? " Your not alone out their waiting and wondering" What's going on!!! -- How long does it take to get a start date???--

The process takes time and even though a nurse says she cleared everything for you doesn't mean HR is done with whatever they do besides what you see as "completed" in your contingencies. If you're comming to Everett they are bringing people in in big groups and they are likely waiting to get the next ones together. There are only so many instructors and class rooms. They probably need to wait to get a couple groups finished before they bring in any more. They just brought in two or three huge groups so things are pretty full in training right now. Hang in there and congrats on the job!

F.Y.I.----If you have never worked for an Airplane /co. Before
"your in for a real shock" when coming off the street to your new career- when it comes to you "Entry level classroom training" aka/S.P.C.!!!-- Everyday you will have classroom training & "Test" !!!And the new rule's are :now as of June 1/2011.
Are as follows : Fail 4 or 5 of these test in your 8-12 weeks and you are "Fired". They don't tell you this "until day one" on the job.....so really ask about it in your interveiw..
And this is the Entry level job!!! "wow" - I write this for us that have family's counting on the good pay and long life ahead at B???,But if you crash on these tests, that will cover all parts of airpl... sorry... I've seen many people learn this out the hard way... Have a back up plan...it's not all "roses"...it really hard work.... ....I wish all you the best....hope this answers your question,,and please leave feedback,on your train to help others

The test are "Not" AS EASY,,if you have never been in raw production/ Before,,,My wisdom people is before you jump into "B"-
i'll keep you posted... Good luck...

I have a different opion..i went through the spc training..it was beyond easy....if you have any common sence you will ace these classes..most of the training you will never use when you hit the factory floor..leave your cell phones in your back pack and stay awake in class you will do fine.

Tim, how long ago did you go though S.p.c.training?did you work for Boeing before?,,and what program are you with now/loc? you never failed any classes-test? what kind of work did you do before Boeing,or are you,a teater with S.P.C./HR?
I'm thinking you had your training at the ERC training center?or seattle lol..It's really depends on what your hired in for, and if you have done it before..,,,MT/QA/Wire Tech.etc..also what training loc/program your with... As where Im at it's----F-----k-ed/ controlled ,mess of pushing people though to the floor date ,with out understanding that we are newbee's,,I have had some really helpful teachers that get how hard it is to be new "N",and have to take in sooo much intel so quickly,,,I loved the one's that threw out the test as a result ,,telling the class that they don't agree,at all, in the added stress of a test,,to the already way of learning Boeing way of doing things..,I've had teachers that never showed up,or just left us sitting in a room,,after 2 hours, went home , the teacher never even told us, he was going home...In a nut shell the training is a mess, the right hand doesn't now what the left is wants.but it's behind..lol..and theirs us student's stuck holding the "cams"/bag of stress for it... I think it was said best by a Teacher when he said to us,
hear the things they don't tell you....lol...but I first feel sorry for you guys, because he'd been with Boeing for years,,and explained after training if we made it with the new fail/rate ///that we would get one mo, on the floor, Before we were on are own...& that was insane/scary to him....and yes do try to stay awake, and don't take pictures,or sure the web, outside, like yahoo, face book,,your their to learn,,and payed well to do that..so ask,and bug your teacher for facts, wisdom, and the to slow down if needed,,you have a voice use it....Good luck all!!-QA-?

Is the training 10 weeks for everyone or does it differ per department you are going to working in? I have heard it's as little as 4 weeks for some.

Your S.P.C. Training - well on your first day, your excited and not sure who to listen too or where things are right...it's normal,,,S.p.c trainers are over worked most working double shifts to many locations and under badly under staffed to deal with the new hires coming in///... The S.P.C. staff are doing their best to find the best teachers for you,,,some as I have said are great, and full of years,of wisdom of how the "game is really played"-do & do nots-,and some will tell you flat out that they "don't care" -So my wisdom is this,,find out who your learning advisor is,and sit down with them,,if you have questions vs,learning things from the halls,or water cooler..
no one's going to hold your hand here, and you will feel really lost for awhile until you get the way of the land,,"TIP"find a few people in your group number,,and get together, and study,or ask questions to the many answers you may have,"how do I,on the ----web site---their are some very smart cookie next to you in class...
Don't let the stress "get to you",water on - water roll off,as we now say.lol..you'll understand this by 10 weeks of being stuck in a classroom trying not to fall asleep,or crawling the walls,,,overload,,too much information to retain,,,,lol..
Don't feel to bad if you miss a test or two or three, yet be ready for to be writing up for it? "C.A.M"... - this is not at all fair as if you fail, a class, say AAA,you should not be pushed into class AAAA,the next day!!! and expected to pass?,as it directly relates to the fist class, you failed,AAA.and their is no study infor to study form,as you never know where you will be the next day,or even know what the class really is based from it's name until getting in class.. --But this goes back to the flow, and keeping all the newbee moving, per plan/flow,moow--lol
"what the S.P.C. mangers are missing ? or don't have time to deal with is the fact, that we are "now putting already stressed students/ on a coarse to fail.Due to this ongoing pattern

Must Read,,, If your not ready to have your brain overloaded,& to be sitting in classrooms for 10 weeks -with daily test/ pass fail... IF you miss 4 test in 10 weeks you will be fired..... as will write you up,Be ready,or have a back up plan,,,new hires,,,this is a very, very hard, stressful, process,,trying to learn all the information, pass test, and have the added stress of losing your new entry level postion, sleep...They do not mess around...their alot of people that fold due to the high stress,or are let go due to the new rules... I was excited too after, making it though all the hoops too, then day one I we recieved the real story, game on,,,it's clear,Do or die...

Wow, so I remember reading this guys post 4 months ago when I got offered the position. It had me extremely stressed and questioning myself about if I can do this or not because I hadnt been in a classroom since junior college back in the late 90's. Now that im almost finished with SPC and ready to head out to the floor, I wanted to comment on this for any assembler/mechanics that have accepted a job.

Some of what "?...WTF.com" is saying is true, some is over-exaggeration, some is false.

1st- Your very first day, they tell you that if you fail 4 courses, you're gone. This is not entirely true. Basically, you need to show up everyday, be on time, and pay attention. Theres a few people in my group that just dont get "it", but they are making it through. At the end of everyday you have a written test. All of the answers are in the specs on the computer that you are allowed to use. Almost impossible to fail, but some in my group still do. When they fail, the instructor will either tell them to go back and correct their answers, or help them along. Rarely does a student get a "fail". Now if you dont show up, you're screwed.

Theres a couple classes that you need to pass without the instructors help, and with your own brain. Drawings and OWI. OWI is an easy 1 day class. Drawings is a week long class of nothing but sitting, and learning how to read a set of prints. If you study, and have the computer familiarization that you said you had on your application, its easy. If you fail drawings, its fine. You'll get a warning, then you'll have to make the whole class up again at the end of your training.

2nd- Instructors are not overworked. In the 9 weeks ive been here, ive had 2 instructors that were asked to work a double. SPC is made to handle 200-300 students, when i started they were taking on close to 800 students. Every instructor ive had is awesome at what they do, and very knowledgable.....

.....and they want you to succeed.

My advice to anyone thats just coming in. Dont just fail your classes thinking you have plenty of chances. The SPC managers are always watching. If you get written up a couple times, you'll be in for a surprise when it comes to your final projects. This is when the "4 fails and you're out" comes into play. Depending on what you are coming in as, you could have 5-10 projects at the end you must complete. The very last project has to be completed in one day and if you do not complete it or fail on the installation or fail to read the drawings/i.p. correctly, that counts as a "fail". So if you already have 2 fails from your classes, and now have a project fail, that counts as 3. You get 1 more project fail, you are gone. People have been escorted out, ive seen it. Point is, save your eggs in your basket for the end in case you fail your project once or twice. You are allowed to fail and re-do your project as many times as it takes as long as you dont have previous fails.

Ive heard it takes people 2, maybe 3 times to do their project. Thats for people that are having a hard time. I had zero aerospace experience coming in and i feel pretty confident now that im going into my final projects. Over the course of your training you are given the knowledge and enough practice time to use the tools and know how they work.

Instructors a cool people, they're not out to screw you like "SPC WTF.com" is getting at. They want you to succeed!

Being anything in this world is doing somthing with 100%= results,facts,actions.truth,...lol..
ok, Being lost,or confused,is ok,,,it's that you now have taken the time 3-4 times to really make sence of somthing writen by someone that, make you shake your head, and "say WTF".... it's how you handle this information that starts The begining & the will lead you to your end result...hmmm.. *Follow?-
At Boeing they/US, have alot of issues to overcome, training, & leasons, that really needs to be tossed out or rewriten, as this system is a waste of time..BS. It seems more about filling the classrooms & hiring some useless instructors to create jobs to meet "F.A.A related req vs having student trully love learning with fear of MGRS trying to look good with on the flow chart to higher mgnt.. .. I learned more on my floor days Tossing the water bottle with an old timer:)- then I did in most of S.P.C...sad but very true..

So if your really willing to take a stand, and put your paycheck on the line.$$$.. and get a few C.A.M.'s or three,,,lol.. You' ve learned somthing called "your core"- Will you stand to be counted,or sell out to be rich & fall... Holding the respect & line of truth of those before us is key "751" ,,, - is a bond that inside or outside these walls can't ever breck... EXP: "The Last Inspector standing"- -- Get back too basic,,Toss the wisdom on & also reread, dig, cawl, and defend the time served :)
How and what you do does count... Make a differance...lead the way,,,flap your wings, wang your tail,& point your nose to sniff out BS ... & always pay it forward to those around you,, it's easy too write 1901-paperwork policy, and writing C.A.M.'s up? "why" HR/MGR - it's harder to reflect on whats writen, trully listen to the real meaning and to stand to weed out the "BS"
toss it out and make it better...
