So I received my fed ex package last week and found out yesterday that I have been cleared for hire. Today I received my start date and p.e.p time. So here is my time line.

November 13th 2011: Applied for position

December 17th 2011: Was requested to fill out application.

January 25th 2012: Interview

January 30th 2012: No longer under consideration

April 5th 2012: Job offer for requisition I was no longer under consideration for.

April 26th 2012: All contingencies cleared.

May 4th 2012: Orientation.

As you all can see I was offered a position that I thought I was no longer under consideration for, and indeed was not. However, I think this is a sure sign that miracles happen. Moral of the story, Wait Wait Wait and never give up.

I finished my P.E.P appointment today. It was supposed to be at 10 am but, I got there at 9 and they slipped me in an hour early. It lasts about an hour. My job status now says "HIRED". Orientation is Friday for me, and I can not describe the amount of relief. Such long wait and terrible suspense.

Training is in Everett. Training is on both 1st shift and 2nd shift. You will not know for sure what shift you will be on until mid day. It is literally a coin toss.

I am concerned about parking...
If I am assigned to 1st shift training, I am thinking about just taking the bus.
Once I get to my regular shift; which is 2nd, I am worried about insufficient parking. Folks from 1st shift will not have left yet...
They really need to build a few parking garages...

Not sure if this is good or bad etiquette here but i'm at the end of my rope. Over the last 2-years i have put in 24-applications for every entry job from Auburn to Everett and havent gotten one single interview. Ive had advice from Boeing workers but most of them have been there for a while so they may not be versed on how things are done now. Ive tried copying and pasting the job posting so that the keywords are hit, tried it without those, tailored each resume to the specific job, added cover letters, taken out cover letters. I dont know what else to do! What magical thing did you guys put on your resumes that got their attention? And congratulations to both of you!

Mine was pretty basic and really not that well written, I havent done a resume in my life till appling for Boeing. It was the first job I have applied for in 30 years.

The topic of keywords and resumes have been discussed within this forum ad nauseam. You simply can't paste the entire requisition and hope to get a hit because those job descriptions are mostly generic and may not contain the keywords. You really need to research the job and understand what kind of skills, tools, etc that the position may require. I've also never used or advocated the use of cover letters. There's really no other formula to it other than doing your homework. It can be tough sometimes after numerous rejections but the payoff is greater than the sacrifice. My friend was laid off from his job in a totally different industry for 2 years until he decided to take a look at Boeing. He focused on researching specific jobs that related directly to his experience and within 8 months he had gone through two separate interviews. He has been with the company for almost 5 months.

Thanks! Originally i went keyword free but after the first year of futility i figured i decided to change it up a bit. That didnt work either so i'm back to square one with it but it is encouraging to see other folks that persistence paid off for!

I put a picture of myself shirtless on my resume. Perhaps that helped as they felt pitty for me. :) Sorry celebrating tonight and a bit tipsy.

First thing you will do is take a 6 mile trip on foot around the factory. You will be at the factory for about 6 hours and then spend a couple in the class room. I suggest bringing your own lunch in a very light lunch sack as well because, the "many" cafe's inside the factory are very expensive. If you are with B.E.C.U Bank you will be able to do some banking as there is a full operational branch in the middle. This bank is right next to the Boeing Store as well just around the corner of Tully's. Quite an experience. My best advice is to take care of yourself via nutrition, and hydration and you will have a very nice day without spending a lot of money.

Thats kind of the impression ive gotten. They seem to be hiring lots of kids that work at the local skatepark and such. Been trying to "young down" my resume to see if that helps.

Would not call them skate park Just younger and remember back when I was that age and a quick worker. Not that Im slow now. Shoot wish they had skate parks back in the late 60s early 70s when I was doin that. First day oreintation is tomorrow and hopin I dont have that sleep problem too.

I'm not shocked at all that there are a bunch of young-uns...
We old farts are gonna have to just show them how it's done!

It's one thing when you go 'all fast'.... and have a bunch of rework...

Orientation is over and I have been put on swing 3 to 11:30 for training. Like 35 people went to Everett and 3 to Renton. Gotta try and transfer to everett as soon as I can, it is much closer for me.

There is a very good reason for the company to hire who they are hiring. There are some very fine qualities that the younger generation have that you will find out about in training.
