I recently accepted an S&O Consultant position with BAH. My employment is contingent upon obtaining a Secret Security Clearance. I am recent college grad, good credit, little foreign travel and no foreign contacts. Never been arrested, etc etc. Zero red flags on my SF86. I was extremely detailed with every section and do not believe I left anything out. So I hope the investigator can complete it ASAP.

I submitted my SF86 via e-QIP last week, sent in my authorization forms and fingerprinted. That should be everything. However, my assigned BAH Security Case Manager is unresponsive at best. She does not return phone calls or reply to emails. I was informed that the Security Specialists are notorious for losing or misfiling documents for clearances.

I have a couple of questions. Being a recent grad, I am not currently employed and will more than likely need to find a part-time job until my clearance is acquired.

Since I cannot reach my Case Manager, what are the next steps to the investigation?

I have heard that a Secret Clearance investigation takes as little as 4 weeks to greater than 6 months. How long did yours take? Were you contacted by an investigator for additional questions?

If this takes greater than 6 weeks to complete, I will need to find a part-time job. How do I go about informing my investigator of additional employment?

Thanks

I would contact the HR Representative assigned to your capability. They might be able to help the process along by contacting someone within the GO team (Global Operations).

Be careful about accepting a job with Booz. If they are this unresponsive to someone about to join the firm...could be a sign. Many people are not happy here at Booz Allen and are looking for other places of employment. Good luck!

I have since obtained my interim clearance. However, my HR recruiter is not sure if I can start my on my accounts with only an interim. I spoke with my recruiter recently and she told me there would be meeting later in the day where she would bring up my case and see if it is possible to either temp assign me to a civil account while my full clearance is investigated or if they can bring me on to the defense account with an interim. She asked me to give her a call early next week.

I have read several posts of people being unhappy at the firm. And many others that say it all depends on your team. I am assigned to the same team as the employee who referred me. He has not complaints and is rather impressed with his team leads. I'm optimistic that it will be a good experience.
