Every business has it's own style. What is the office environment and culture like at C.H. Robinson Worldwide? Are people dressed in business casual, jeans and t-shirts, or full-on suits? Do folks get together for Friday happy hours and friendly get-togethers? What is a typical day in the life of an employee at C.H. Robinson Worldwide? |

Don't know that it sucked, per se. I was in a business unit (sales) for 3 years and made really good money in the first 2... especially for someone fresh out of college with a useless BA in English. This was also back around the dot-com bust and 9/11 and many of my friends were severly underemployed. Still it was boring as hell and you are dealing with some of the dumbest people in the country. The 3rd year was garbage. I didn't make a dime and my "team" members were all stabbing eachother in the back for a $15 commision. The manager proved himself to be totally inept so for year 4 I switch over to another business unit (client services), which was 1000 times better. I look back proudly at the opportunity I finally had add real value to my client's business and CHRW. I reduced my client's NVA costs (e.g. detention pay) by 75% and had 3 direct rports. But at the same time, it was still logistics: boring as hell and the people you deal with are all either dumb as rocks or have emotional disorders. CH Robinson is great if you are just looking to make money and/or get some real world experience before grad school. It's very hard to get out of logistics and the only people I know who got out went into PhD programs, masters programs, law school, med school or got an MBA. Your hard work, on its own amounts to a pile of spit to recruiters outside the field. You could have been the brightest guy at CHRW but b/c HR people are among the most ignorant people in business, they see you as a forklift operator rather than someone with experience in sales. If you aren't going to grad school and don't want to spend the next 45 years moving freight, CHRW is not for you. Otherwise, it was a solid experience. |
