I haven't really heard much on this topic. But it being in such a small town and in a rural area.....are they accepting of gay workers? |

For the answer to that, ask yourself this question. "Are rednecks gay friendly". Other than brokeback mountain, highly unlikely. |

Hi Freddy, I personally know of 14 gay individuals working at Cabela's corporate offices. The company leadership would tell you there are only one or two. Those who are gay don't advertize it much. Outside of work - the town and surrounding community would not be considered very "gay friendly". Gay couples usually live in one of the surrounding towns and commute in. Gay individuals usually date and have relationships with people from bigger towns. So - if you live here - you'll likely have some choices. Live local and commute for things personal - or commute for work so you can have your life where you live. Pretty conservative area. Good luck to you. |

Basically, no. The entrenched older guys barely tolerate the women, much less a homosexual. I have been told in no uncertain terms that I should not consider hiring any gays. Obviously not everyone feels this way and there are gay employees, but it's far from gay friendly. |

I just recently started working for Cabela's in September. I am an out and very proud lesbian; however, I know to be careful in new work environments. I actually searched for this because I was curious as to whether or not I should just keep my mouth shut at work. It's change for me. I came from a company that is also not considered "gay friendly", but it was known that I was a lesbian. Chris, thanks for the heads up. |
