A Citigroup recruiter called me for the SENIOR Accountant position @ Citigroup. I was told that the position maxed out @ $35k. For a SENIOR level position. I would hate to see what they pay their entry level people.

Ditto on the salary comment in general - I've lived in San Diego for 25 years, and the salaries here do not commensurate with the cost of living, nor are most employers willing to pay for what they are getting in their employee. It's rediculous, I don't understand why anyone would want to move here - unless you're already rich of course.

The Sr. Accountant position in Duluth, GA only pays $39k. Don't bother sending your resume.

I can tell you that Citigroup ranks low on the compensation range when compared to other banks on the street.

Citigroup employees are paid nearly 20% below market.

"Anonymous in Kew Gardens" is so correct. I was offered a job in one of their back office operations locations in Maryland. I was so surprised to find out how low the pay was. Especially from a company that loves to tout how big they are every chance they get. Citigroup wants talent but they don't want to pay for it. They'd rather give meaningless titles to people. Just recently, my division announced "promotions" where they bumped everyone's title up as if that's supposed to mean anything. The old Legg Mason people they acquired that are left in my division are leaving left and right. I wasn't there when it was Legg Mason but these people don't seem to care for Citigroup that much.

Ha, I know exactly what you mean...I have a MBA and am barely making it there...it's ridiculous and nuts. They are full of it. I and a number of co-workers are planning on leaving the company. They can't keep people...people leave and come back...promotions are for the ones who don't have a backbone and won't stand up for their slavery type labor standards.

Debt collectors don't make salaries they make commission for acting like scumbags to people. I know, I used to be one.

I too was a Citicorp wage/bonus victim. The regional manager made many promises while in the hiring process, but never made good on them. I worked for the highest producing Financial Assistant in the Inland Empire, assisted him in 3 branches, but the "bonus" seemed to get lost in the integrity versus greed department. 1 year was enough for me, I quit. I wasn't about to stoop to the lack of integrity/character ethic the management seemed very comfortable with. Chew up the employees and spit them out, they don't count at Citi.

I worked for CitiAuto in Minnesota for 9 years before they closed the call center down in Bloomington. Citi found the salaries were too high there, so they closed the MN center down and moved the jobs to TX, AZ, NC, where salaries are lower. Some people moved, but now I hear with the 17,000 layoffs and call center consolidation, they may have to move again or lose their jobs. Glad I did not stay with Citi.

I recently started working for Citifinancial as a Branch Account Executive and my salary is 31K. When I was offered the job, I was told that they offer great commission. I received another job offer and I'm supposed to give them an answer in about a week or so. What do you guys think?

Unless you can get what Citi will offer, what the offer is based on, get it in writing, and blessed by HR, I think you are in for a disappointment. Once I started asking questions to support the great verbal presentation I was given when hired, mgmt started scrambling. They didn't have anyting to suppport what they had promised. If the new job will give you what you can expect to get, and put it in writing, I wouldn't hesitate to leave Citi.
I'll bet if you start asking questions of Citi, you will see a "dance" like you have never seen before!!
Whatever you do, good luck!

Is this a CitiFinancial Branch offer? If so, they pay about $19,000.00 a year to start for entry level Citifinancal branch employees. You would be better off going on welfare.

Citigroup pays little!!!! I've applied for position as bilingual corporate actions specialist, with a long list of requirements like.. work OT, holidays, high pressure enviroment... etc at the end I found out that the final offer was 35K!!! what is that about?

Citi pays their TN call center reps $19,400 no matter what department, and the collections reps get bonuses. Unit managers (who supervise 20-30 reps) make $35k.

Before you waste too much of your time get the details of what they expect and what/how the salary is paid. If it sounds interesting go for the interview but don't accept the position until you have the offer in writing including the salary and future increases. After my experience with the promises they made and then forgot they made, get it all in writing and verified with HR.
Good Luck Lynette.

If the base is salary is higher that 31K, then go for it. This commission business is very doubtful

I tend to disagree about the pay. I am making 52K a year plus annual bonus of about 6K a year as a Business Analyst--4 yrs out of college. Granted I hate the back stabbing trolling managers that I have to deal with everyday, but I have never complained about the pay. Maybe I am just one of the lucky ones who caught a break....

I worked for citi for 4 years. I worked my way up to Banch Account Manager. As of Friday the 29th of June I quit. The hours and the pressure
you are under is not worth the salary you are paid. It was for my health and sanity, and mostly for my family I quit. I never was home.
It is late nights and weekends. They think citi should be your family. It is not a family oriented place. I was told I couldn't attend my
sister-in-laws funeral.

During the interview process, being promised something that never came to fruition, is AGAINST THE LAW. Go warm up a lawyer and see what comes of it.

Really Greg?? I never thought of that being anything other than moral issue. It went a lot deeper than that too, down to documents listed on the job description that didn't exist. They made up so much slong the way over the course of the year.
I battled a big company once before and they paid off my attorney on the side and ended up losing when all along it appeared and my attorney confirmed it was going my way. Needless to say I wouldn't refer anyone to that attorney.
It's more a matter of principal than anything, who says being less than honest doesn't pay! I just don't care to play their game.
Thanks for the info, helps my sanity these days!!

I have to disagree. I make 45k and I'm only an admin and every other recent college grad like me is making 50 k plus in my department. When I went on my interview salary wasn't even discussed, but I knew I was going to be paid well. That's a good salary for anyone including someone entry level. I mean I can't speak for people working in a branch but as a teller or even customer service what do you expect to be making.

You have no idea what is going on...I am in HR there and there are people in those customer service roles with degrees...some Master's degrees who just wanted to get into Citigroup somehow and can't seem to move up or out of their position. I will tell them in a minute...as ridiculous as it sounds...leave Citi...then come back...people do it all the time to get the salary they need.

Lisa,
What dept/division are you working in?
I agree that 45-50K is good money for a recent grad, however there are many tellers and customer service people who have degrees, experience, and are super at what they do: keeping the customers/clients serviced well and coming back to Citi. It doesn't take a degree to be good at what you do, it takes a passion for what you do. They deserve to be rewarded for a job well done like anyone else.
As you go forward and gain experience, you will not leave an interview without knowing what you will be earning. Unfortunately, my experience with Citi & salary was many promises and no follow through. My performance, insurance and securities licenses warranted the promised $$, but the good ol' boys when caught in their web of lies back-peddled their way out of the promised $$. I left after a year because I don't want to work for people who can't be honest, trusted and keep their word, and there are many in Citi.
Enjoy your position but watchout if you want to move up, unless of course you are willing to play the games. Good luck at Citi, I think you will need it.

Well that is their fault for taking a customer service role with a master's degree.

Citi was my first job out of college four years ago. I entered with many recent college grads, and we were all paid 53k flat starting salary in IT. I left after just 8 months because I heard the salary increases/bonuses were pretty bad from the current employees. Year after year, I hear that at least 4 or 5 people from my entering class left for better paying companies. I'm now making 130k + 30% bonus...and needless to say, I'm VERY glad I left that place.
Citi is TOO big. They are trying to cut costs, and will not pay the cash+bonus to their employees. Do yourself a favor if you are still there and start submitting resumes for a new job.

Well I did make a post and yeah the money is good but then again I could probably me making more else where but now that I'm hearing of the low bonuses and salary increases it's making me feel leary. Around how much of a yearly increase should I expect? I'm actually considering looking else where now not bc I have a problem with the pay but more the office polotics: ex: kissing ass and if you don't well don't you're not well liked. The env't is way too stuffy for my taste.
