I recently accepted an offer for an entry level position with Smith barney. When I filled out the application form they asked me if I ever commited any felonies including crimes related to money, theft, or securities fraud. I honestly have never commited crimes of these natures so I marked "no" for all of them. However, my criminal record is nowhere near "spick and span". When I was 18, (august 27, 2002) I got a DUI and later on that same year I violated my probabtion on accident(truly accidental). I terrified that I will lose the opportunity that has been given to me, espeically if I start working there and then 2 months go by and I get canned.

They never asked me about misdemeanors in paper nor during the interview? My question is, what should I do? Should I call them up first thing in the morning and explain myself? Or is it a "don't ask, don't tell" kind of thing. Please help, I am in unchartered territory and dying to get into the finance industry. Thanks!

I am in a similar VERY situation. I didn't want to turn in my resignation from my current job without knowing for sure that everything was a sure thing. I decided to fess up my concerns, and once I did the manager who hired me said it wasn't that big of a deal (as long as its not a felony) and I might be asked to give some sort of explanation after the background check. Good luck!!

Was in similar situation. Was never convicted of crime but had been arrested for having a fake id. I was applying for an internship with Goldman Sachs. Received internship, but lost it once they found out I had been arrested. The arrest was 5 years before I applied and I had assumed it was no problem. Wish you the best of luck. I was upset when I lost mine.
