I have worked at Citi for several years and will soon be looking to leave the company due to their unfair practices when it comes to promoting people from within. They talk the talk about how they are all for helping you build your career and how they are willing to help you move to other departments but this is not true. The fact is, if they like the job you are doing and if you are making upper mgmt look good, you are stuck in that department. When it comes to promotions, if you aren't their smoking buddy or if you don't brown nose or go out drinking with them, you will never be given the opportunity to be in management. If you are not in their click you will never get anywhere and it does not matter how much knowledge you have or how hard you work. They would rather promote someone with less skills than you because they hang out with them. |

I am trying to get my butt out of there as soon as possible. |

I agree. This is also happening in Citibank Asia. I am also a victim of such. Its not kind employer. Many on top are suckers |

I agree..it stinks, they talk about promoting from within. DO NOT COUNT ON IT...ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE A FEMALE. |

unfortunately this practice is widespread. I saw it firsthand in Citigroup when working there and see it again in another major asset management company. Only those who kiss managements' butt are more likely climbing up the ladder regardless of your accomplishment or dedication. Whatever you do does not really matter. Unless YOU KNOW SOMEBODY higher-up, there's no chance you'll be promoted. |

AND, I am not joking. This happens all the time. Your hard-work, accomplishments, degrees, skills etc do not take you to the position you deserve to be. To be successful in this company is NOT by doing great job or having made significant achievement to the corporate, it is depending on how many higher-managements you know of by kissing their butt. |

You are so right, the asst manager in my branch is only 21 and she got promoted because she slept with the branch manager who is married and contuines to sleep with her. The Asst Manager asks bankers to sign papers and makes ethical mistakes and does things that are way out of regulation. Its horrible do not work for this company I was fired after two months because of bringing my concerns to Human Rescources. |
