How long after you are hired can you start taking advantage or courtesy cable and other comcast benefits? I know medical is 90 days just wondering if these perks are the same.

Major update. I've been working for Comcast for 3 months now. I'm a Commtech 2. All I have to say is do not glamorize this job and make it out to be more than it is. I know there are different systems across the country and each system runs slightly different from each other because Comcast's systems are a combination of an old system they bought out and their own conglomerate. My system isn't the greatest. Alot of things happen which don't make sense. All I'm saying is you go through alot to get this job. I had to take a Pre-Screen interview, The behavioral assessment, the math test, the actual interview, a drug test, a ladder handling and general safety test, a defensive driving test, the actual Commtech 2 test, and I still have more tests to take even though now I'm actually in the field. The field can be fun at times and at other times you may hate it. Its not an super hard job. But it could be way easier. What makes the job a challenge is the company itself. Which is the case of most of these big companies. They are run inefficiently and the workload of one worker is far too much.

I applied about a month ago online. I have little experience in this level but I go to college for networking and I'm a math expert. They called me in 3 weeks after I applied and done the pre job screen. There they make you watch a video, fill out an application, take 4 or 5 timed math tests, then a job ethnics test. If there interested with you after your testing they take you back for a preliminary interview. There the job recruiter decides on whether or not to consider you. If considered, they scheldule you an interview with a supervisor at comcast. In my case it was three days later. Once you go there. They do the whole "interview" thing. Where you ask questions and they ask questions. He decides whether or not he wants you on his crew. I got chosen. The recruiter called and said I was hired if I passed a drug screen and background check. I tested today and I should start working in about 2 weeks. There paying me 11.50 an hour just to go to there classes for the first two months. Can't beat it. Plus, after your done with the classes. You get another raise. Comcast is a great company.

Networking is tough for any job but here is a thought...
Have you tried LinkIn?

You would be surprised at the number of people you know who probably know someone to give you an introduction.

I just had my Interview at Comcast yesterday. It felt like an interigation more than an interview, but the ladies who were doing it were really fun! I also had a phone interview before that one. I felt, I really got along and fit in. I didn't have to take any tests!! Thank goodness! Wish me luck though. They did give me the line "we still have a few more interviews"

nikr in Atlanta, Georgia said: If it's the same test I remember STUDY/review adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions and COMPOUND fractions.

Another part of the testing is that moronic "what if" test with questions like "If you found out your coworker was stealing supplies from work would you:

a) report it to your supervisor
b) call Customer Service
c) do nothing
d) get in with your friend and take even more stuff

and they'll reword these same scenarios 5 different ways to find out if you are "honest" etc.

the only persons more dumb that the people that made the test are the Comcast executive who made the purchasing decision for it--like it's a "good" product....

Morons.

Are you SURE you want to work for Comcast? Have funs with idiots for supervisors and total know-nothing RACIST b*tches for dispatchers...

Of course the caveat here is my comments about how bad it is are only applicable to the Metro South System in Atlanta, GA--other systems could be good/great/OK to work for--I can only speak of Atlanta.....

Right now I need a job to make ends meet, I am about to loose my house. I will let you know if I get hired. I am looking to stay with a company if I get hired for a long term and make changes as needed. I will take your advise on the test. If you know of a sample test it would be great. Thanks for your help.

I understand. Maybe where you are Comcast is actually a good place to work. If it turns out good, then it will be a plus as their benefits (Medical/Dental insurance etc) are generally EXCELLENT. Moreover if you get a decent boss (I wasn't so lucky) it will be almost IMPOSSIBLE to get laid off/fired if you're a good worker...

ANyway, back to the test stuff--the only real thing to study is review doing everything with fractions like:

2/3 X 5/8= ?

2/5 +9/16= ?

9/10- 1-2/3=?

5/8 X 1-1/2=?

3/4 divided by 1-5/8=?

know the rules for these and decimals i.e.,

what is .03 X 4-1/16 and you are set on this part of the test....

the "what if" part of the test just use your head and common sense--think in terms of what the company would want i.e, employees that will say something to a supervisor if they notice someone stealing company property etc etc etc

GOOD LUCK--the test is NOT hard if you know the rules for dealing with the fractions! The test IS timed so PRACTICE *before* test day! The more you PRACTICE, the better you'll do. I practiced my ass off and the fractions were EASY....

Again, BEST OF LUCK WITH IT AND LET US KNOW HOW YOU DO OK????????

All the Best,

Nik

Hello, I presented few days ago the preemployment test in Malden, MA. I applied for an IT Tech position. But let me tell you that in the math test I didn't have any question with fractions, I just had one questions with decimals, and the rest of the question were like if 10 desks costs $3400 how much will it be 3 desks?, all the problems were like this, where you have to aply all the operations. And don't worry about the time, just answer the few you can.
And the personality test is the same, that the other people say.

Ok after I presented the test, the Girl arrived and told me that i passed the test , then she began asking me some questions like, what is internet?, have you configured a Network card?, if somebody calls you telling you that the internet is not working, how would you resolve the problem?. After this interview she told me that I will have an interview with the Supervisor, and that she will call me for setting up the date. So now I am waiting for the call.

So, is there anybody that could tell me What kind of questions will ask me the Supervisor????

Thanks

They claim they do--the reason I say "claim" is because my credit was left in complete shambles after ID thieves went on a multi-state shopping spree in my name--I have notes in my credit records with Experian, TRW etc about what happened but my credit is completely shot and I still got the green light from Comcast...

Again, don't sweat it--there's nothing you can do anyway. I think their background check/good work history/accurate resume etc will have a lot more to do if they hire you than any credit check...

Good Luck with it and let us know what happens :)

Easy. Don't let these "supervisors" intimidate you--most are morons. They'll ask Barbie Doll questions like "Tell me about yourself" stupid c**p like that.

You WANT the job? Inject ENTHUSIASM in the interview and manage to throw in a few bits here and there illustrating you actually know something about the company--the history--the movers and shakers in the company--maybe mention something about Tupelo, MS and 1966 or mention Brian Roberts or how much money Comcast made last year or how much of the market share they have or the "Triple Play" etc Just make sure you have some idea of what you are talking about--not just parroting a few words you copied from a cursory glance of what the Comcast Wikipedia page says...

Bottom line, be OVER prepared and be ENTHUSIASTIC about working for Comcast. Make them think Comcast is the greatest thing since sliced bread :) The "supervisors" aren't that bright anyway so it shouldn't be that difficult to "get them in your corner".

Good luck with it....

You're very welcome--remember ENTHUSIAM and taking an interest in their company is KEY. The rest is details and after you bowl them over with your ENTHUSIASM you can forgetaboutit--they WILL call saying they want YOU ;)

P.S. Depending on your market, it can take them up to 6 weeks [I've heard as much as 9 weeks and as little as 1!) to call you AFTER the interview/piss test results saying they're sending you an acceptance package (paperwork saying you're hired that you fill out and give to the HR Rep when you report to work.

GOOD LUCK!

Each market may vary, but after you get the phone call from Comcast inviting you to join their team they DHL a folder to you with some documents to sign that you bring with you to the start date that they give you. After you arrive, you are in what (I can't recall what they call it) an indoctrination--it's basically a day or two where you fill out social security forms, insurance forms etc and they have a little slide show about the company etc. They also make a copy of your social security card (if you don't have a SS card they cut you loose a touch early so you can go get one). They will also give you a voucher to go get your boots (presuming you're hired/appled for their ComTech position).

As I recall, I got the "Acceptance" phone call on a Sunday afternoon a month after I interviewed and I reported 4 indoc on Fri...

For the background check paperwork (this is done well before the indoctrination phase) they just have you sign this generic form that gives them permission to do their check on you--it's bee ess as far as I'm concerned--the check c**P like oh on your resume you said you worked for xyz 1 and 2 months but we could only confirm that you worked for them 6 months--care to address this discrepancy? [this is something that happened to me--the "investigations" company had some twerp call me and ask me for an "explanation". I nicely told the twerp his information was incorrect as the company I worked for sold and went under a new company name--long story short the twerp faded away and Comcast hired me even with the "investigations" company and the "discrepancies" they found [they were idiots!]. Anyway, sorry to be so long winded--I hope I answered your question.....

GOOD LUCK yankee!

Hi Nikr, I have a question and maybe you have the answer as all the questions that you have resolved. Thanks for that!!.

My question is, what happen if when they call me to make me the offer I say yes, and they sent me all the paper work, but for x or y reason i think about it better and i regret, what would happen, how can i tell them after having the papers that i don't want to work for them??. Is that they called me today in order to make me the offer, i haven't answered yet if yes or no, i'm gonna call tomorrow, the reason is because on thursday a have a second interview in another place, and i really like more the other job, but i'm not sure what will happen after that second interview, i asked the comcast recruter that if i could call him on friday, but he told me NOO, that tomorrow i need to have an answer. So i'm wondering what will happen if i say yes, then they send me all the papers and maybe i get acceped in the other place.

SPerouty in Baltimore, Maryland said: I just started training Monday, October 22nd. I applied on-line at www.careerbuilder.com . I didn't know anyone that worked for Comcast. I got called back the day after sending my resume. You fill out an application and take a test before you get an interview. The test isn't that hard but its a lot of math, its timed where no one can finish, points are deducted if you answer incorrectly but not if you leave an answer blank, and you get the results as far as "recommended" or "not recommended" right away. The interview is pretty standard. They ask about your previous jobs, why you would be a good candidate, and customer service scenerio questions. Right after the interview you go to see a recruiter. They do an extensive background check and want to see your high school diploma and other documentation. A company called Carco does the investigation and Concentra does the drug testing. I had to bring in my highschool diploma, paystubs, and W2's. The training is 8 weeks in a classroom and 3 weeks in nesting (OJT). You get free cable, free internet, $14.99 telephone service, 1/2 price PPV, free access to their on-site gym, and so much more. The pay is $11.35 plus a $1.50 shift differential if your shift ends after 9 PM. I recommend applying to Comcast.

11.35 to start? That's horrible, 'course it sounds like you are a high school grad, and have not finished college yet, so in that sense, not a bad wage. The freebies are nice, but that doesn't justify the low wage, or the covert age discrimination. Math tests like that could be designed to weed out an older crowd that have not used mathematics in some time. I stress "could be". At least an older person could make that argument. Younger workers normally equal less pay. Anyway, those freebies are nice, but I'd rather have a higher wage and pay for my internet, and cable service.

Host said: It's always hard to know what to expect when going in for that interview -- and preparation can make all the difference. What is the interview process like at Comcast?

Any advice on striking the right note?

If Comcast mirrors the traditional call center, the interview process would intell a combination of situational interview questions, along with personality questions.

If I may suggest, you may consider going to your local library to search for books that center around the interviewing process. In past, I have found theese type resources to be not only free, but very helpful.

I am intersted in connecting with a contact person who is currently employed with Comcast, preferrably in the metro Atlanta area, or ither the Alpharetta Georgia area.(Call Center)

I currently reside in Charlotte, NC, and I will be relocating to the Geogia area within the nearest future.I will be traveling to Georgia throughout the upcoming week, for prospective employees/meetings.

I have noticed several postings that are now open for a call center manager. I posess over 12 years of call center manager experience, with emphasis on customer care, quality training and developement.Shuld anyone have any deffinate contacts, please inform me. I greatly appreciate your assistance.

This kinda crap happened all the time--If you got one of these girls you could ask that they note stuff on a customer’s account for future reference and they’d swear up and down how they’d make all these notes on the account and then later you’d call in and find out they hadn’t noted a damn thing on the customer’s account! What a premium job--sit on your *ss in air conditioning and hassle people and GET PAID FOR IT!

Bottom line, Comcast=Last Resort If You Can't Find Anything Else. (I didn't even find anything else--I walked on those clowns after being hassled one too many times by the racist phone girls and being told one day by my supervisor (at 2PM!) that I’d have to pick up an *entire* days worth of work from another tech who didn’t get any work done all day because “his equipment was “stolen” out of his truck”. Just too many hassles and too much BS from too many different directions--clueless supervisors, racist phone girls and ridiculously LOW PAY and to top it off, bitchy customers in their dirty *ss houses...

****I DECIDED I'D RATHER BE UNEMPLOYED (even in a bad economy!) THAN WORK FOR COMCAST--yes, it was that bad [read: the worst job I ever had].

Thanks for replying, I hope my experience is not as bad as your has been, those are terrbiel things you went through. My interview is coming up, I'm in the Chicago area. I'm interviewing for the installation technician position. Apart from "tell me a little bit about yourself" do you have an exmplae oa any questions I should be prepare for? Also to verify your past employment do they call the actual job or your reference from that particular job. I'm confused with that. Hopefully your experience with Comcast will be a little more positive than mine but unfortunately I think their problems are systemic....

As far as the interview questions go, the only one I remember was the "tell me about yourself". The most important thing to do is show enthusiasm for working for their company/SELL yourself and BE SURE at some point in the interview to let your interviewer know that you know a little bit about comcast--maybe mentions something about 1963 Tupelo Mississippi or mention Brian Roberts or have the revenues figure for Comcast from last year.

Bottom line, sell yourself as friendly, competent, caring, someone who has some background that ties in with the cable industry (me, I worked in my Dad's TV shop when I was a kid) GIVE THEM REASONS TO SAY "I WANT TO HIRE THIS GUY"--remember they're in a way sticking their neck out a bit if they recommend you. Remember positive enthusiastic people make things happen for themselves :)

Finally, I don't know for sure who they call, but they are pretty thorough with their checking your employment history--unfortunately [here in the Atlanta market anyway] they farm out this out to a 3rd party company who employs morons [hopefully it's a different company in Chicago!] . When I say morons, I don't mean that as in "easy" or to your favor--the reverse--they hire geniuses whose job it is to find inconsistencies [even if there are none!] with the information you provide when you applied for the job. Hopefully it will all work out and your experience will be better than mine--in any event, GOOD LUCK WITH IT--and remember--be ENTHUSIASTIC about possibly working for Comcast in that interview (the inteviewer will pick up on your enthusiasm and want to help you :) and SELL yourself {answer the "why should I hire you?" question for your interviewer and SHOW that you have some knowledge of Comcast as a company.

Again, GOOD LUCK--let me know how it goes!

you're on a public forum. you don't have to address me directly. i just wanted to point out that even though you pride yourself on having all the answers you still carry a grudge against a former employer enough to bash them with every backhanded insult you can dispense. and that's just adorable, sally.

First off it's not "sally" it's NikR. Second I'm well aware of the forum and I can choose to address/ignore you as I see fit. Continue on with your rude, know-it-all condescending tone and you'll just be ignored. Third, It's my choice to comment or not comment on Comcast as I see fit. My experience with them is what it is--whether you like it or not--I never claimed to have all the answers. If you had a question forthcoming about Comcast you'd probably have asked it by now. If you just want to continue trolling because your ego needs haven't been met I haven't the inclination to help--this forum is about getting on at Comcast specifically Comcast Interview questions--if you have something to add about getting hired at Comcast we're all ears....

So i'm wondering what will happen if i say yes, then they send me all the papers and maybe i get acceped in the other place.

p_a, sorry I missed this question! It's been 20 days--so what happened?
