Ron, I'm glad to come by this. I have never been so livid. I'm a mother of a college senior. I have been out of the job market for 22 years. At the time I had 62 college credits under my belt working towards my goal of becoming a Occupational Therapist. I had a job as an Asst. Office Mgr. in a oil company on 5th Ave, NYC. I traveled with contracts all over the world. Had my own office with antiques. It was a very cushy job. I left to raise my son.
Moved to NJ for my husband's job as an electrical engineer. So, now you get the picture. Fast forward.

So, I sit in a huge house. My days a working a an Advancement/Eagle Counselor for the BSA is over. I thought it would be nice to get my feet wet again, and start slow. I saw there was an "open house" at the Comcast near my home. What I got was something of the most rude behavior I have ever seen. First off, my resume was sent via electronically to them close to a month earlier. So, you would think someone would be there with a clip board talk to us (a human touch). Have a basic idea who we are? This was a real cattle call. We are all crushed into a room. All of us dressed to the nines (but who would notice?). This young woman was yelling (with a smile) quickly about the work that we would do and how much. Now, the kicker, for the next 15 or so minutes she explained how the company would check everything we had written on the Employment Form. And, they mean EVERYTHING (yelling). Your criminal background check will be check for the littlest offence no matter how small will be held against you. Your driving record. Then, she REPEATED this whole thing all over again, not just twice, but, three time.
I know what they would say,"Oh, we had to many people. We don't have the manpower to talk to everyone individually". I'm from NYC, believe me they could, I saw all these people walking around the office talking to one another with flip-flops on. Come on.
So, they told us to set up for the test dates. Went a week later.

To continue:
This time was a gentleman standing in front of the Testing Room. He explained, quickly what we were about to do. Then, here we go again, for 20 minutes this time. About the information we gave them will be checked, and double checked. About criminal records. Lying on the application would be a termination. And, it's repeated more then twice again. This time, twice he said, "Anyone, leaving now? You have your chance". This was a disgrace. What about the people that are sitting there that are good, clean, wholesome people being subjected to this behavior.
When it came to the Aptitude Test I failed. First time I have taken one. First part was rather silly. Second part, the writing on the screen was so small and being timed. So, I was a little off. But, you would think they would look at my resume and think, "Maybe we should talk to this woman? She looks like someone we can use?". No, instead I'm told I can try again in 6 months.
This was very poorly run. And, I'm not going to try, again. I would not want to work for a company that treat there future employment in this rude manner. They don't even do there homework? I did not speak to one human throughout this experience.

Oh! PS...As I was taking the test. People were walking and talking, and scuffing papers, around the room. With a "I don't care that I'm bothering you" air about them. Awful.

anonymous in Richardson, Texas said: Sounds like they are stupid and you are better off. YOu already know that. From what I understand, Allstate does the same 6-week training thing. It's crazy. I guess that is why the cost of cable is so much: they hire people to train for 6 weeks and let them go after something minor. Somone has to pay!! Good luck in your search; I have been there!

Thank you. This is obviously why they are continually running employment ads. I was curious.
