Like all things in life, there is some truth and some lies here. First of all, if you are considering CFC, keep in mind when reading:
1. Sites like this foster an environment to b1tch and moan. People who are are unhappy are more likely to complain.
2. Sales jobs have a high turnover rate and they are numbers games (period). This is true of any sales job.
3. Like ALL companies, they are ALWAYS about the bottom line. Would you buy stock in a company NOT interested in the bottom line??
4. To my knowledge there have never been any massive (ie greater than 10% of the workforce) lay offs
Now, who I am and why should you care? I have seen the company from both inside and out for 6 years and NO I am not HR trying to spin it. Here are me opinions and perecptions.
- Yes, there is a high turnover, especially in production/sales type jobs. Sales, well, that is the nature of the beast..the old 80/20 rule, 20% of your staff does 80% of your sales, so many do not make the cut.
- Yes the benefits are NOT what they used to be. This is the nature of health care. EVERY company and EVERY American is getting squeezed by rising health care cost (blame the lawyers and Pharma companies and their media spending too)
- Yes they measure EVERYTHING. This is the nature of the technology.
- Yes politics play a role. I do not know of ANY company/institution/group/relationship where politics do NOT play a role. That is the nature of humans.
What too expect:
- It is a large company that is rapidly growing. How can any company perform these "massive layoffs" I read about when they have over 10K open poistions (and yes I am well aware that most of them are in sales)
- Opportunity. If you do not like your job/boss/commute/whatever you can transfer to a different position after a year.
- Pay: Not great but not bad either. Esp. for those with no degree!IT IS A JOB!
Pros: STABLE(except above), big, opportunity, VERY tech focused, growth,
cons: pay, benefits, top-heavy, cube

In reply to the first negative comment...that sites like this are for people that want to b###h and moan...well the job scene these days is a bit discouraging..and if people can get together and talk to each other about whats bothering them concerning hiring methods, no response, posting jobs that don't exist, sorry lying temp services, companies that don't want to give you full time hours because they don't want to give you any health or dental...just to name a few..what in the above mentioned opinion is wrong with the little get together on here..?????

So, if you are honest would you care to admit that the top execs have now admitted to numbers fraud? That would represent a company that is using people to further themselves, and not run a legitimate business. Yes, at one time Countrywide was a very prominent business, in recent years it has drug people and the company itself through the mud. Now that they have upset enough "regular" people in this world the have achieved a positon they were not hoping for, "FRAUDULENT CROOKS". So remember "what goes around, comes around" treating people like crap will not get them to use your mortgage company.

so true! even mozilo is selling ALL stocks he invested in his own company - means he has no faith in the company. there is so much wrong doings going on in that company....wish someone could report them. 90% of the employees use & deal drugs! they probably do them on the premises!! senior mgt is aware, but dont do nothing because they would get their family & friends fired - so they point the finger at the best workers and get them written up or fired!!! dont believe me?? check the stats with the labor dept & the texas workforce comm....

I agree with the last response, Countrywide has gotta be the worst, slave driving company out there, not only do they pay less than In N Out burger, but they simply dont care not to mention every department on different systems, none of which correspond with each other, all the compliance courses online on top of constant change in schedules, micro managing under qualified supervisors who simply ride in those positions on the coat tail of friends. Countrywide is a place where if one knows how to brown nose, then they just might get that promotion, Countrywide is also so worried about bottom line and production that they completely forgot about compliance, especially when they ask employees to take credit cards and charge 385.00 even if you know that they dont qualify just to make the big boss look good on the books. This is just WRONG!!! but what goes around does come around.

LISA - good posting. Anything to do w/ mortgages, banking, real estate....run like hell ! They'll burn you up, with little if anything to show for it. Rule of Thumb: if any "job" requires up front investment of your time or money, with little or no guaranteed earnings, it's fly-by-night - no matter how big or impressive they sound ! MY advice to folks is to get into a trade, be it plumbing, whatever. DO NOT work at anything that can be outsourced ! This country is headed for a revolution. People will only take so much carving of their dreams before they rebel. Sound too over-the-top ? Remember South-Central LA ? That can and will happen anywhere. Look for it if this government doesn't start taking care of OUR homeland by 2008 !!! The cupboard is almost bare.

I am applying for an analyst job in Chandler. Is this place that bad. What is the pay like. Everyone just says bad, but I've seen bad. I need specifics. This company can't be as bad as everyone says it is.

It comes down to, like ANY other bank:

Depends on the manager, depends on the actual location your in ( as that WILL effective the job scene) and depends on the market in your location. If possible, talk to an employee and see how its going.

I'm applying for country wide as so far, its one of the best offers and I REALLLLLLY need to get out of my job ( Just realized this week. On maternity leave, and discovered apparently my company is on the way to finding the ark of the convenant..yeah..that's an indiana jones joke)

Doc amd Rocgal,

Run, don't walk, away...far away. Not only was this company bad to work for, they will not be in business in a few months. I was RIFed a month ago. Up untill the day it happened, there were no problems at all at CW, according to them. The only layoffs would be limited to a very few in FSL. Lies. They are on the slide all the way to the bottom. If they give you a job, it may only last a few weeks.

Who are you people kidding? Look at your resume and education. If you have had more than three jobs in the past year, the problem is not with the company but yourself. Instead of motivating yourself with personal gain, why not try personal growth? Instead of striving for the highest pay, go for the best growth potential. If this is not CW, fine go somewhere else. I have worked with both the higher ups and the grunts if you will. Seems to me that the grunts now adays are afraid of a little work, which by the way the higher ups had to do to get were they are.
