I can tell you about the Dept. of Public Health. Salaries vary from clerical, education assistants making anywhere between $10 and $15 an hour. Analysts can make anywhere between $25 and $33. Analysts with an MPH can make anywhere between $40 and $45 an hour. Management positions are the best paid and coveted with annual salaries between $150K to $200K per year, however, these are extremely difficult to get. There's a strong preference towards females and towards graduates of UCLA, Santa Clara State, San Diego State University, and occasionally a Loma Linda grad here or there. Best you come equipped with an MPH or your career ladder will be cut short. Benefits for rank and file employees are mediocre at best and mandatory union dues (for non-management employees) are taken from your paycheck whether you like it or not. The benefits of union membership are debatable. Hope this helps.
