I've been trough three phone interviews, one test, and I've waited a month since I first applied online, and finally have a live interview for a sales position. If things go well, I'll have to take a drug test, and go through a background check. It takes patience, and the realization that they don't employ professional interviewers, so you MUST keep in touch, with them, and keep checking your online profile for appointments, because even thought they may tell you that you're going to get a call or an email, you might not, and as a result, miss a test date. |

AZ James is right. Cox does make you jump through hoops depending on which department that you are trying to get into. First they call you for a phone interview, then they schedule you to take a personality and basic skills test. If you pass that test (and you find out right there) they send you over to interview with 2 people in the department and yes you are right, they do read questions off of a sheet and the interview may seem very robotic. Then you usually have to wait a few days after the interview to get a call to receive that offer. After that, there is a 2 week waiting period on the background check so get everything filled out very quickly and returned to them. The longer you wait, the longer it takes. Also, the drug test is included. I was going to the technical support representative in the call center. If you are going for either Sales, tech support rep, or dispatch, there is a program system that you get trained on for a certain amount of time. The system is very cumbersome so brace yourself if you see errors on every single screen that you go into. It's not a very easy program to learn and you have to pass the test by 80 percent to get released to your position. Usually Sales and Dispatch have to know a great deal more about this system than the technical support rep. If you are uncomfortable with an old mainframe type system, then carefully weigh whether you really want to work in any of these positions. |

Tech reps and field techs also must take courses on troubleshooting various services. They must pass that by at least 80 percent before getting into their position with the company. Then they must maintain over a 90 % average on a monthly basis to stay in the role. If you don't, then you get pulled aside by management to let you know that you need to improve. If you don't get above 90 percent for another month whether it's in sales or out in the field or in the call center, then they will let you go. I had difficulty with the system that they use to control the services that they provide. Very cumbersome to navigate with cryptic error messages. For techs, it's easier. The field techs do not have to be trained in this system since they work out in the field but they must learn other things that the technical support rep does not need to know unless he goes into the field to work. They only had part time positions in the area that I live and the pay is not that great for all you have to learn. I was getting paid more at Parker Hannifin for doing a little less and paid considerably a great deal less at Cox with training just for learning a great deal more. |

I have heard that they don't have a good reputation when it comes to their employees. In my opinion, if you do get a job there, don't get comfortable. They would let you go at the drop of a hat, especially if you are at the top of your pay grade. |

Don't do it!! If you feel comfortable with the company you now work for, stay there. In my opinion, Cox doesn't really care about its employees and could let you go like a hot potato. Here in Orange County, Ca. they laid off a lot of people because the company were "restructuring". Some of these people had worked there for a long time. Horrible, in these times of such high unemployment. |
