Every business has it's own style. What is the office environment and culture like at CVS?

Are people dressed in business casual, jeans and t-shirts, or full-on suits? Do folks get together for Friday happy hours and friendly get-togethers?

What is a typical day in the life of an employee at CVS?

Jeans are allowed on Fridays for most employees; business casual is the usual dress - no sweats, no provocative, no sloppy/dirty. The higher your position or the higher you'd like to get, the more 'formal business' attire - executives are very rarely seen in jeans, always 3pc suits; managers usually in suits/business attire. Getting together is strictly by department/level/friendships made - every department/area is different.

Can't answer a typical day in the life at CVS, there are so many departments, so very many jobs, so many levels it's too vast for answering - and once again depends on your job and area. Some jobs/bosses allow you to be casual some require more quiet business environments. It's a big world inside CVS headquarters and walking in one door and out the next or through a hall can take you through many different worlds.

Once you are in you can wait out your time if you do not like or are bored with the job you are in and 90% of the bosses there will have no problem letting you bid into another job - just like life, bosses are human and may not want to let you leave them to go to another job. So you can move around till you find the right place for you.

There's a lot of choices. And Tom Ryan makes sure that the food is good!!! The cafeteria is huge and has services for holiday pies, you can order food to pick up and take home your dinner (even on a long hard day you can still have dinner on time!)

Naturally, there are always disgruntled people - but for the most part, people are genuinely nice to each other.

Again, naturally, you are expected to do your job. Especially if my comments send you there!!

Trust me, I was there for two years - stay away from CVS! I'm bright, MBA, many years of experience - they'll chew you up and spit you out - a horrible, political culture!!!

Actually I am no longer a CVS employee, by choice, I did work for them for 7 years. I worked in several different departments and went through many different issues. But I can say that everything that I wrote is true and accurate. There are many people, including executives that can say how bad CVS did them (I can attest to some), but some of those things happen in all big companies (cutthroat) but if you work in different departments, like I said, there are totally different environments. And you have the choice of bidding into another department with an exception - your boss will know. Which isn't usually a problem most are dedicated CVS and as long as you are staying to help promote CVS they are happy. But then there are the type that you must have dealt with - vindictives whose only concern is themself. CVS cannot control that any more than any other business - if there are enough true/valid complaints then that person can be let go.

I am an employee of this company and it is a good company if you don't have a life and don't mind working 80 hours per week and getting paid for only 48. That's the way things are.... don't like it then don't complain or don't apply

Wouldn't getting paid for what you do make "common" sense? Yes, they pay good for areas where there are a lot of small businesses that cannot afford to pay better wages; but not when compared to other big businesses. Like you said, CVS will drive you to your grave at little cost to them, but with the benefits of all your expertise.
