Talbot Maston in Bloomington, Indiana said: I was laid off Friday before last. Went to work Monday then took FMLA. Went back Thursday was told not to clock in then got fired. Why wasn't allowed to clock in and should I get paid. Teamster on new DHL National lay off everybody agreement. Didn't know where else to ask somebody. If you have the proper paper work turned in for your FMLA leave they can't touch you. If you are a Union member you need to get with your Union Rep asap. If your an IC will then your screwed. |

Thanks BA never showed up to my firing never even told me it was coming. Sent email Tuesday Morning requesting representation and meeting with someone who knows FMLA they sent to BA nothing so far. I am just waiting for someone to call me. Actual union member but steward tries but is new and knows nothing. |

Panda in New Windsor, New York said: It's terrible... I thought our union protected us from this... The Union can't protect us from layoffs. Every company has the right to down size. As long as they do the layoffs in reverse seniorty then its fine. We here in the Seattle region just had a Union meeting with the new area V.P. and a manager or two from each of the 5 stations in the Seattle area. We have 254 drivers. They are going to keep 189 for now. The rest get put on a on-call/layoff list after October 6. October 6 is they day that the 40 hour guarantee goes into effect. It will go by seniorty and which ever station needs the work that driver has to go there if they want. If not, they drop to the bottom of the list and then the next day it starts over again. The layoffs in our area are only if they see a dramatic drop in freight. As for now we are still very busy but the GDS is dropping day to day. Good luck everyone we all need some. |

Panda in New Windsor, New York 3 months ago |
True, and I see what you are saying.. But I am also being told that call back should start a week or two after the third round of layoffs.. Thats right I said third round.. How do they expect to have people standing by , waiting.. Quick question after reweiwing the contract, I cant find out if benifits are cut off during a layoff? Do you know> |

My station is also laying off people. So far we have not been totally eliminated yet. I also had worked for UPS and I know they are also not adding new drivers and their volume is down. I think DHL needs to get rid of the useless middle men and go about the business of service to customers. I also just heard that all the US vice presidents are being sent to Germany in September to talk about what they are doing to cut costs, what a waste of money!! Also we have to work 80 hours a month for benefits and 13 days to get paid for a holiday. |

The problem is that layoffs are based on seniority and not quality of work. SO I understand your anger. However, my suggestion is don't do something that you would regret, forever. Start looking elsewhere. Now. |

The word is the new ' Big Wig ' from canadian DHL is now in charge he has already put a new management system in place. DHL has realised the airborne setup wasn't working so they have decided to tear down the company to a skeleton and rebuild it. We recently have bought new planes and have told existing customers we are blacking out certain areas until the merger with UPS has gone thru which by the way has not been signed yet. UPS found out we were blacking out areas and used this to their advantage (Nordstroms, IBM, etc.)Most customers due to the economy love our prices and have continued to stay with us but as expected some have moved on. There is no easy way to lay people off but for some lucky drivers at least this is a positive move. Its business and its not fair but its necessary, I delivered a 110 peices today with 85 stops and only 5 peices were ground packages so maybe there is hope and this is temporary. |

Just got off phone with my sister who is also a driver, we started off with about 32 routes, now there running 21 and the bids will go up she thinks for 22, every other day collapsing 2 routes. This is a rural station, with endless miles on some routes. If you don't deliver all your freight they will write you up and put it in your file, after five letters who knows. Hopefully she will explain more of what is going on. |
|
F Desimone in Kent, Washington 3 months ago |
I dont understand all you drivers out there that are Union. Deliver service and nothing can happen to you. If you bring back freight oh well. JUST DO SERVICE. Once they see that we can't get it done with the extra stops and the 30 or more miles we are doing they will have to add rts or just blow off service. Our Unions are only as strong as its members. We pay dues to be protected. Call your Union rep and let him/her know whats going on. I'm Local 174 and management doesn't mess with us. Everyone take your lunch and breaks cause its the law and the company will see it can't get done. Stay strong everyone and call your UNION. |

I have to agree with the numerous people who dislike DHL. It is by far the worst place I have ever worked at. Here is some of the things that are acceptable at DHL:
To summarize, stay as far away as possible from DHL. katmeg in Dallas, Texas said: I worked for DHL for over 2 years. This is a company that you do not want to work for. They are highly unorganized. MAJOR cash applicaiton problems making for a very difficult environment for collections. Anyone who has had collection experience in the Houston area has worked there and left. They are now at a level of unable to find anyone who will work there. |

Speaking of Union, Every time my people have to call scottsdale arizona for computer help they always get these people that hardly speak any english, many of them are brought straight from mexico and are here to get their papers, then they leave to other companies. The point here is that DHL is willing to sacrifice computer stability and customer service just to save a buck by putting non-english speaking people in positions that are high-customer-interfacing...

My sister and I work at JBK in Petauma California, North of San Francisco over the Golden Gate Bridge. We have some routes that go all the way to Sea Ranch in Jenner, if you goggle it on map quest it takes one hour and forty five minutes if you don't deliver anything on the way. Hence we only run that route twice a week. But we are union local 624 and we still have lots of routes that are over a hundred miles a day. My sister just said they are down to 20 routes and the bids are not going up next week like planned. I think we had somewhere between 32 to 34 routes. |

Finally, after begging them to do manual awb's they did cuz UPS was way more expensive. Made phone calls, asked station mgr to fix. Everyone throws their hands in the air. Wow . Have to say I'm terrified. If I lose my job...my family may very well drown.

But its o.k. to try and take away medical benifits from workers and have them work for $7.00 an hr. I think your the one who's stupid either that or your a management tool. DHL is scum. Look here. I just came back to Il. in Feb. from Az. Az. is a "right to work state" so don't tell me about $7 an hour. I'm sorry, I wish I were stupid cuz then all the b.s. loyalty wouldn't hurt so much!!!! Yep dhl really stinks right now!!!!!!!!!!!!Airborne was so much better.......This company doesnt care about the customers...they are purposely pushing customers away so they can get rid off all this high priced help!!! I have a car dealership here in chicago that has shipped ever since i have been doing this route( 1997- present )..What does dhl do?/..( I guess they are trying to get the morning drivers to get all the pickups) they call them and tell them to change their ready time from 6.30 pm to whatever..the customer doesnt want to do it ..so they deleted them..this is a customer that ships about 50 lex a week ....p1,nas,sds...But i was smart enough to still go there and guess what?? they had 5 enveloppes even though they were deleted the day before..thats my point: customers want to use us but they keep trying to sabotage the operation.. so the attitude is if yu dont want to change your time just go use fedex or ups...and i am seeing it in the barn at night...maybe a trickle of packages here or there ..but i would say our volume is down at least 60%.. I will be shocked if i have a job come spring...I thought DHL was supposed to put a new meaning in customer service..yeh right!!!!!!! |

They may be good where ever Talbot Maston is but TRUST me when I tell you they are NOTHING in NY. You have a union steward who wouldn't help you unless you were her friend or sold her pills, (thank god she finally quit) and you have a president who purposely goes GOLFING instead of being at the damn contract negotiations for us!!!! How's that for UNITY!! It's horrible. With the new contract we have management can walk all over us union employees and get away w/ it. Grievance my butt, they don't care if you file one on them or not. Per our new contract........."WHAT MNGMNT SAYS GOES!!" PERIOD It's HORRIBLE. I wish UPS has Customer Service here cause they are Teamsters and super strong I would go there in a minute.

I wish our Union did cover our backs but they don't. We ratified our contract in July, part of the contract was DHL could not hire part-timers if any of the regular drivers were on lay-off. They are planning on hiring and starting part-timers in October and 8 to 10 of us are on lay-off daily. I work in Petaluma and freight is stacking up EVERYWHERE yet we don't even see our reps from our local 624. We cannot keep customers and grow as a company if we don't deliver!! I am glad to hear there are some union members being represented. |

From what I hear the company broke even with this months budget so that is a good sign, it sounds to me like the company is trying to head in a better direction. I worked for UPS for many years and I'm not afraid of hard work, my current work load is 85 stops, 25 express a day driving about 170 miles daily in about 10 hours. So if this is what it takes, so be it. You have to think if you went elsewhere for a job you would have to make $35 to $40 an hour if they only gave you 40 hours to maintain your lifestyle, I have a degree and trust me the job market stinks out there. When you stir the pot the cream rises to the top. |

Unions want your money and thats it. I figured that out when I found out they own a bank and tried to get me to get a credit card and charge 15% interest. I guess my Union dues are paying for a bank with no profit sharing 'Some Brotherhood'. |

We went from 153 or so employees to 109 from April to June (during contract negotiations). They are currently on a hiring freeze, so QSR will be not hiring a single person. I've heard rumors that they will hire some part time people, but I doubt it. Plus one of the most frustrating things is when you're actually trying to help a customer and your supervisor or one of them come up to you and yell at you for being on the phone too long, being unavailable too long or not just passing the work onto the backline reps. Which is stupid cause if I can get the call taken care of the first time that would be better than pushing my work off onto someone else who is dealing w/ the crap someone else has already pushed off on them. IT'S SO DUMB!!! Some days I just don't even want to try........I just want to go in there, "trust the stupid ass system" and call it a day.....but I actually CARE about "MOST" customers and want to help them. The ones screaming about their "insurance pkgs" (which are just damn cell phones) and claim they are leaving the country tomorrow can just kiss it!! |
