What are the average starting salaries, bonuses, benefits and travel requirements like at DeVry University? What do you like best about working at DeVry University? Are there any great perks or special treats for employees? |

What all my comments boil down to is they don't try to be the employer of choice. They are an OK way to get your feet wet in the filed. If you are coming from another company look elsewhere. The average starting salary varies depending on the job. I know there are some people in my department who make about 30k while others make 60k. They seem to favor the sales, umm I mean advising departments much better then mine. The bonuses are reserved for the upper management, like the directors and up. The benefits stink, make sure you get all the money you can up front because they make you pay for all the benefits. They do chip in for health care only because they wouldn't get anyone working for them. The travel requirements are very minimal, they seem to like to save money by having people not travel. |

If this matters any, I graduated from DeVry with honors and I couldn't even get a freakin' job with them. It wasn't in sales and that's normally what they're looking for, someone who is willing to 'sell the school' to prospective students so that it can make more money. What better person is there than an alumna? Besides, the pay is really poor. |

That is sad to hear that that DeVry would not consider you when you spent a lot of time and money and obviously effort in order to graduate with honors with them. This explains their behavior toward me as well in that I have also taken graduate courses with DeVry/Keller Graduate School. I have not yet graduated, however, I have sufficient undergraduate degrees and experience for what I applied for at Keller. I interviewed with the Center Dean and at the time she seemed very interested in what I had to offer and was interested in my qualifications because I thouroughly prepared for this interview. I wanted the position very much and honestly, I am quite over-qualified for the position, however, beggars can't be choosy and the job economy where I live is not up to par and it is very, very competitive. This has been about a month and half ago and after phone calls, e-mails, and reiterating what I had to offer and detailed descriptions on how I could implement my expertise as the Dean explained about how she was doing two people's jobs. I have not heard back from them to this day and sadly, I had to go to a temp agency in order to find a position due to being in dire financial straits. It's too bad, it's a loss on both sides (mostly theirs). Also, I was informed that the particular position has not been filled by anyone. I have basically wasted my time and energy. Why do companies do this, it's ridiculous! I am a little bitter because I did not want to do a temp agency, but that's the way my cookie crumbles, at least. It is very unprofessional to demonstrate this type of miscommunication and non-communication alike. Maybe it really is all about money instead of ethics, and I'm going to see if it's possible to transfer my course credits to an institution that actually value their students' aspirations, their education and experience, instead of just their pocketbook. |

I am so sorry to hear about your experience w/ DeVry. In reality, the bottom line is is that businesses are there to only make money. It's very unfortunate when that becomes the main reason for their survival. A few years back I had considered going to the Kaplan Graduate school, but reconsidered when after a conversation I had w/ them they really didn't care about what I wanted to study. They just wanted to know if I wanted to start as soon as possible. In regards to companies not notifying candidates after interview, that just happens everywhere and I don't know why. I have been to about 30+ interviews (no kidding) and only about 5 of them have contacted me either by phone or email to let me know that they've decided to chosen someone else. They must not care about other people's feeling but themselves. You know what though? What comes around goes around. And like my husband keeps telling me, everything happens for a reason and maybe there was just something about the company that wouldn't be a good fit for you.

I have not gone on no where near 30 interviews since I graduated from school in May of this year but it still has been a challenge for me in finding a decent paying position, not 2 mention a position that is related to my major in college. That also really frustrates me when (especially larger) employers don't contact good job candidates back just to let em' know what their decision is, good or bad. I mean, I don't really care to hear that their busy or that thats just the norm in the industry, because all of that is nonsense. It is entirely up to the hiring managers to appoint someone to that simple task as being a point of contact. For these reasons, I am planning to be the owner of my own co. soon enough. |

I understand what you're saying. I've must have gone to 30+ interviews since January and still no bite. My husband has given me until the end of this month to find something and if I don't he says that I will be starting my own company. Now that just freaks me out. :) |

Hi There I have used jobsbyfax.com to help me find the hidden job market. I'm not a sales person for them just someone who has had good luck with it. It's cheap and effective. Good Luck

It IS all about money with Devry! The "Center Dean" position is a sales manager position. I'm sure they hired someone from within. They need to be sure you are sales and will keep hush hush about it. |

What's not surprising about this school is that I had graduated with honors from this school, but THEY weren't even willing to hire me. They wanted to take my tuition money, but they weren't willing to pay me for the skills they taught me. How does that look? Looks like greed and a scam to me. |
