It's always hard to know what to expect when going in for that interview -- and preparation can make all the difference. What is the interview process like at Dillard's? Any advice on striking the right note? |

There a horriable company to work for. They treat there employees bad and all about quotes and there never on the floor there seat warmer in the office. Then if don't make the numbers they will cut your salary 10%. Sad. |

It seems that Dillard's stores all over the country treat their employees like scum...until their "district manager" comes through for a visit and they need those numbers!!! It's a wonder the store has lasted this long... The employees are treated worse than the customers, having to put their belongings in see-through clear bags and be searched upon leaving their shift...and they justify it by their "numbers" which suggest that the merchandise disappears from within the store (employees) when we consistently see and report customers' shoplifting--the expensive merchandise at that... It's enough to make you want to boycott the stores. I for one don't shop there, but I guess money talks and as long as someone is financing the whole ordeal, a business can get away with treating people any kind of way...sad |

Have applied twice, been called twice for interview and to fill out application in store. Both times they say "OH, the person you need to speak with is not in, we will have them call you" and they NEVER DO! PS: I have 10+ years retail and retail management experience,so NO reason for them NOT to call me for actual interview at least. |

Dillards is and has been sued for age discrimation. I am filing a suit with the EEOC for that and other gross injustices happening everyday at Dillard's. The SPH thing is unfair and probably illegal. Especially in a store that is in a rundown mall like the one I work in. How can they hold us to the same standards as a busy mall that has foot traffic? Dillard's is a dying business and it is their own fault. They, the Dillard boys could care less about us. It is all bottom line. Now they start 19 year olds out at 10.50 an hour while they cut the pay of my friend who has 18 years experience with McAlpins, the store Dillards bought out, down to 6.50??? That is fair?? That is illegal. Plus, the age discrimination. A memo from corporate came to our station accidentially, said "to hire younger employees in certain departments, like cosmetics to give the store a youthful appeal" Duh, They messed up the pay 2 weeks ago and didn't have cash to pay the employees nationwide ( I was told by an office member) and they still have not made my checking account right or paid me my money?? They are a joke. |

I stumbled acrossed this page while looking for something else. I was an Manager at Dillards for sometime. I wish I could defend them but I cannot. Please know that unfair treatment is never acceptable. The poor treatment of associates comes from high up.

I agree with everything that has been posted on this site....I just wish I would have looked at it before I went to work for the worst company in my retail career!! By the 7th day of employment, I was yelled at, in front of a customer, by my store manager, to sell!! I had been getting ready for a Vice-President visit that week, getting my stockroom and counter "visit-ready", when I noticed an alarming amount of un-accounted-for opened and empty boxes at my counter. When I tried to do a little investigating to see if there was any internal theft going on (before I became the business manager), I was yelled at by my store manager, and told that I was not allowed to do any projects, go into the stockroom, or anything else, but sell, sell, sell! If you do not make your goal there-- your job is DEFINITELY on the line!! Also, they make you work around 60+ hours/week....everyone is single or divorced with no children-- except me (oh- I like to eat lunch, too; but after working there for a mere 2 months, I lost over 10 lbs). The pay is the worst I have ever, ever had in retail-- it is exactly 1/3 of what I am used to making. They also discriminate against older people- they only make ASM's 23-year-olds, fresh out of college (so since I've almost been out for 20 years, with 12 years of retail management experience, that threw me out of the running). The last comment I have, is that most people that work there, are not believers (management anyways), so they don't understand when you need a Sunday off. My suggestion to you, is to run as far away from this place as you can, and don't look back! Dillards won't be around much longer! |

I started working for Dillard's about a month and honestly I dislike it alot!! I work in the juniors department and I feel like am the only one who does customer service and the other girls just stand there and do nothing all day. They want to get there sales to but it is not fair when am busting my ass to help anyone out and they want to take my sales away from me. They say they all help each other out ugghh hello no one has helped me. If the girls are worried about not making there sales then bust your ass and work! I am looking for a new job because It isnt fair how the manager also tells me that I HAVE TO! give my sale to another girl. Nope I dont think so. |

I do not understand the negative comments concerning Dillard's commission with draw pay schedule for sales associates. You were told during your interview that you had a minimum sales quota to meet to pay your weekly draw. You were also told that the higher your draw, the higher your quota, and the lower your draw, the lower your quota. Dillard's is not responsible for meeting your quota, you are. You complain about Dillard's cutting your draw by 10% for not making your quota consecutively. This is to help you make your quota by lowering your draw, would you rather they fire you right then? Please, Dillard's bends over backwards to keep sales associates in jobs, I've lowered an associates draw three times trying to save their job. Come on and grow up people! Where else can you get a job making $10.00 to $12.00 per hour with no college education and few skills? You should be thankful for what Dillard's offered you, and ashamed you are blaming them for your failure to sell, or your greed over your draw. |

I try to be grateful for my job, but it gets very discouraging when the traffic that comes in is not enough to support the sales goals they give the employees. Especially if there are several people working all at the same time. Some areas of the store are always better that others. They expect you to build your clientele with calling etc as a way to build your sales. But in reality there is only so many people we can really bring in that way. People have a life, they do not want to make committments to come in and shop. People as a rule shop when they want, when they have the time, It is counter productive sometimes to be on the phone trying to get people to come in that you might miss someone in your area that actualy might be there to shop. I go to stores where they do not clientele and they are busy because the stores advertise, have good sales and lower prices. Those places are busy. |
