What do you think -- is this company going to survive and thrive? Are they looking to expand their staff, or do you think layoffs are inevitable? How does Dillard's stack up against the competition? |

This is the worst company to work for. I think that the Dillards in Moline has went through ever single person in the quad cities to employ. The have no compassion for the hard work that you do. They want you to fight like animals for sales and then what do they do? they cut your pay and eventually fire you. You have no chance to make a career with dillards unless well im sure you can quess |

Its true they dont appreciate your hard work. They go through so many associates, hiring and firing. The Harlingen,TX store has the worst dept managers, the majority treat their associates like dogs. Even though one complains about them to store management, its no use they wont'ever get fired because they are all buddies. |

I worked for Dillards for 27 years and they let me go over a misunderstanding about a store policy.I know they let me go because i would be retiring in about 7 years and don't want to pay my retirement.Dillard in Waco is really a crummy company towork for and the management is really terrible along with all the asms. |

Dillard's is not a very inspiring place to work, unless you are very greedy and cut throat and (veryimportant) get lucky enough to work in a busier dept. it is very hard to make it. It is very unfair the way it is set up. Their is favoritism there also. Some people just have the better depts and not many people work in then so they can make their goal and the rest just have to scrabble for what ever few customers come int to your area. Also, you have many other tasks to do. It is almost like the managers don't want you to sell. Just do busy work. I really don't know how they survive, the store is always dead. |

2nd cut in LA in Prairieville, Louisiana 20 months ago |
Dillard's in Louisiana is not a very nice place to work either!!! I've worked there 5 years and I'm about to get my 2nd pay cut. The associates will stab you in the back for a sale because of the quota system!Managers make sure certain people get their sales while the others do the dirty work (markdowns, putting out new merchandise, dustings etc,,)Certain people don't work nights and weekends either!!Sure they pay well but in the end the take it all back and they fire you! I've had many friends who were fired because of(no)sales. How are we suppose to make sales when Dillard's doesn't bring enough customer in to support our pay?? It's a NIGHTMARE and I'm waking up!!! |

Dillard's may be around for a long time, but if the continuous problems that I have seen with mismanagement and employee mistreatment continue they will eventually go the way of Hess's, Sear's and others that have declined and settle for the retail scraps. Dillard's has already begun to close stores and lay off hundreds of emplyees in East Tennessee. |

I worked for Dillards 2 years--(early 06 to mid 08), as an interim job to keep busy, first as a sales associate then in the camera room. I can say without a doubt that Dillards better improve in many areas or they will be closing more stores in 2009. As a sales associate, for nearly 2 years, i can say unequivically(sp) it was stupid and unwise the way the manangement assigned positions on the floor. I got stuck in B and T for the first 3 weeks, and in the small store I worked in, that resulted in me not making the sales per hour for all 3 weeks. After commenting to the ops manager ( who was in charge of the mens area) until we got an ASM, he moved me to a better area on a rotation basis.

One other thing they set it up that 80 to 85% will fail to achieve their goal. |

Just wanted to add my thoughts, I have 25-30 years of experience in retail including owner of my own niche market store in Dallas, TX. I am now living in Ohio and working at the Toledo, OH Dillard's located in the mall. I went to work at the Toledo Dillard's because of what I then thought, it was one of the highest paid and sought after jobs in the area (needless to say I had not found this web page then). I went to work there seeking the ability to have a job that I would work at until my retirement approx 10-15 years, also to be able to move up in the ranks as I was very comfortable in the management arena. At this point I have been working at Dillard's for 1 year. I started as a better sportswear associate then was promoted to "shoes" where the pay structure is draw commission adhered to 100 percent (so what I am saying is as the economy goes down my sales go as well). Dillard's holds the associate responsible for this, not the economy. I have been told that I will lose my job as of the end of June. Our store has had the manager and assistant replaced within the last year. The store manager is totally in effectual and the assistant is a tyrant. Verbally abusive to employees and customers alike. Uses the threat of job loss as a weapon. Rarely misses a moment to compare departments against each other in morning meetings. Holds personal grudges against associates as well as plays favorites and many more civil rights infractions....

Donno Canetti in Shalimar, Florida said: branstadx3, "Dillard's" has no heart for people. Just recently, they let a women go because her sales were low. No warning or giving her some opportunity to work with her and help her. She had worked in Dillard's many years, worked only part time evening in a slow area, but did all the grunge work because there was only one other person in the dept. They did not even let her finish her night. Just in the middle of her shift, let her go after all her years of hard work. Never mind, she was pleasant and professional. What do you think of that. And it seems like at least one associate a week is going for some minor reason. It is true, Dillard's is holding us responsible for bad sales, not the worst economy in recent history. As I said previously, I give up. There is too much wrong. |

It's not the Store Dillard's, it's the people that are employed there.
