OMG!I'm sorry, I have to reply to this message. Come to the Dillard's in NLR Arkansas and see how many black managers there are. That's a genaralization there. Dillard's doesn't discriminate, maybe the manager of YOUR store does. And, I am a white female and I have not received any special treatment btw. Have a good day. |
|
ILD in North Little Rock, Arkansas 50 months ago |
Ha Ha! Why is there always someone out there on these forum's that have to reply on someone's grammer instead of the topic at hand? That's kills me. I guess those people missed their calling in life and wanted to be a teacher. Leave people alone. That's silly. |

JoShmo in Ohio said: I have a question regarding Dillard's and job references. When I was hired in 2005, I was told that the only information they can give out is confirmation that I worked there and the dates I worked. However, I found out yesterday that they told someone the dates I worked as well as the fact that I am not rehireable for not giving a two weeks. (I gave a 2 weeks notice, though after I decided they did not deserve that). Does anyone know if they were allowed to release this information? Thanks. You very well might have a law suit against the old company, but you need confirmation from the person that gave Dillard's the info. |

I am pretty sure that there is nothing wrong with giving that information. It's a work reference that other company's are looking for in the first place. |

anonymous said: Dillard's is the worst company i have worked for. The starting pay is decent, but when you don't make the outrageous sales goals, they cut your pay by 10%. I work in cosmetics and our particular counter is number one in the entire st. louis area, which also includes columbia, MO and paducah, KY. We have received numerous cash prizes, awards, and kudos from the cosmetic line itself, but Dillard's refuses to recognize our accomplishments. How is it that not one person is eligible for a raise at our counter, but we are making the numbers which Dillard's sets for us!?! The company and its practices are bogus, unfair, and outlandish. I can't wait to get the hell out of there once i finish college. If you are looking for a career DO NOT WORK FOR DILLARD'S!!!! Here's a good story about Dillards! I just found out from the man that works in Customer service that he was actually switched into that area because he was having trouble making his quota. So, appearantly, they worked around things to help him out. Now what? Is it the manager's at the stores, or is it Dillards. Before people make comments about dillards, think about that before hand.????????????????? |
|
lemmingduck in Tallahassee, Florida 50 months ago |
A man wrote earlier that you have to make the company want to keep you. After a few months under new management at our store, I agree whole heartedly with that. You may not do well in your area, but if your outstanding at something else, like your cant make your quota for anything, but you get 20 apps a week, they will work with you to keep you because you are an asset to the company. Personally, I had our district visual manager suggest to our store manager that they create a position for me as our visual persons assistant. So you see what I mean, you have to be outstanding, and irreplaceable to get ahead in dillards. |

Do not make the mistake of ever thinking you are irreplacable at any job. The cardinal rule of all employment is no one is irreplacable. |
|
ILD in North Little Rock, Arkansas 50 months ago |
Of course everyone is replaceable. But it also cost money to hire more people and train them. At Dillards they try to help those who aren't making their quota by moving them a different department. That is what I meant, and that is what I have seen since I have been there.
|
|
ILD in North Little Rock, Arkansas 50 months ago |
well, my comment to that would be, why would you not always want to try to be an asset to the company that you work for? If the company let's go some of the people that are always in distress for some reason or another, then so be it. Those are the one's that obviously end up on the forum complaining how horrible the company is. They weed out the one's that can't meet the quota, or can't make it to work. I know a few people that are at the NLR Dillard's that have been there for more than 20 years. I have only been there for a few weeks. I have heard the good and the bad. Just be happy to be working. |

NEW HIRE here responding to those who say I will feel differently in 3 months. It's a deal. I will let you know how I feel in 3 months. It's also a challenge to me as well. Because I am actually in a section that is very competitive and appearantly slow this time of year. I asked to be switched to a different area, but got no word. I'm still fine with whatever area they put me in. So this is ILD if you would like to keep up with my progress. Thank you for the info. ILD |

|
lemmingduck in Tallahassee, Florida 50 months ago |
Inventory really isn't that bad. You get to meet alot of people who work in different areas that you wouldn't normally talk to. If people work efficiently it doesn't take half as long. I've done it 3 times with 2 different store managers and 2 different ops managers, and it really wasn't all that bad. The first two times I was an auditor both nights and the last time I was scanning, and really it wasn't that bad. |

Lemminduck, wow! So good to hear something positive. It is nice to meet people in different area's isn't it? I loved that the most about my training. We had to work in every area of the entire store, so I met people all over, indcluding the dock and customer service. ILD |

It's everywhere, Hi. I know what you are saying about other people in the work place. The best thing to do is don't feed into it. Girls I work with like to tell on each other for petty things, and talk about each other behind their back's. I walk away and do my work.If I talk to other co-workers, I talk to the one's who have nice things to say. Today I tried to tell them not to do that to each other. Didn't fly. I told them not to worry about someone walking off from the counter, that means more sales for them. Instead, they got on the phone w/ a manager to look for that person. go figure. New Hire, I am a ASM at Dillards. You can do well if you engage your customers. I mean strike up a conversation and get to know them and they will be loyal to you. Treat them like a friend and not a customer and you will do well. As far as your assigned area you can and will moe to better areas but yu must first prove yourself in the area yu are assigned. Dillards works on what is called the pyramid promotion plan...ask your ASM or store manager how that works and good luck. Todd in charleston. |

Todd Mayson in Charleston, south carolina. Thank you for the info. I agree about how you treat the customers. And, i'm good at that. I even met a lady in the grocery store the other day that I started talking to, and now she is coming to buy from me. Yippi. I'm good at that. And, it's better that getting caught up in your co-workers gossip. I don't like that. Wish me luck. ILD arkansas |

CONCERNED PERSON in Tulsa, Oklahoma said: DILLARD'S REAL REASON FOR THEIR 3% SALES DROP = HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT IN YOUR STORES. HOLD ON, MANAGEMENT IS A BIG WORD TO USE FOR THOSE "SEAT WARMERS". THE ONLY THING THOSE "MANAGERS" DO ALL DAY IS WARM UP THEIR CHAIRS WHERE THEY GOSSIP ABOUT THEIR PERSONAL LIVES IN THE BACK OF THE STORE. THEY NEVER GO OUT ON THE SALES FLOOR TO SEE WHAT IS REALLY HAPPENING WITH THEIR DECLINING SALES. THE ONLY TIME YOU SEE THE SEAT WARMERS OUT ON THE SALES FLOOR IS WHEN THE DILLARD'S OR THE DM COMES TO VISIT. THESE SEAT WARMERS TREAT ALL THEIR EMPLOYEES AND THEIR CUSTOMERS WITH SUCH DISRESPECT. (ESPECIALLY IN OKLAHOMA)WHERE DID YOU FIND THESE PEOPLE TO RUN YOUR $7.6 BILLION COMPANY? DRUG TEST YOUR SEAT WARMERS AND DON'T BE SURPRISED IF ALL OF THEM FAIL-THEY EVEN DRINK ALCOHOL ON THEIR WORKING SHIFTS. YOUR SEAT WARMERS HAVE NO CLUE WHAT HUMAN RESOURCES MEANS AND ITS POLICIES-ANOTHER THING THEY HAVE ZERO CLUE ABOUT IS MANAGING--ALL THEY DO IS THREAT THEIR EMPLOYEES WITH ALL THIS NONSENSE. THE OVERALL COMMUNICATION IS A COMPLETE JOKE. MANAGERS SHOULD BE ROLE MODELS FOR YOUR HOURLY EMPLOYEES, UNFORTUNATELY THEY ARE NOT. OUR MANAGERS SHOULD MENTOR US TO BE ONE OF THEM SO THEY COULD MOVE UP THE CORPORATE LADDER; HOWEVER ALL THEY DO IS DISRESPECT US, WHEN WE ARE THE ONES THEY SHOULD RESPECT THE MOST BECAUSE WE MAKE THEIR NUMBERS LOOK GOOD OR BAD! maybe you should come to work for the north little rock store. |

Student in New York, New York said: I'm doing a project about how Dillard's can improve their operations. Any thoughts? Comments would be appreciated. Thanks. Project Dillard's: Another suggestion I have would be to recognize something that at least 1 of your employees did that was nice. Let them know that you noticed their numbers were up, or their display's looked great, ect... It makes pepople feel good, and it doesn't hurt to stop for a minute out of each day to notice something nice about another person. Our store has meetings every saturday and recognize how great someone did on the friday before the meeting. what about someone that did great on Thursday before the meeting? The managers should walk around and give complements to those who deserve it. It makes people enjoy their job even more. ILD, North Little Rock Arkansas |

I got alot more information about the company that sounds great. That's why I cant' believe all the negative comments that people make. anyway, thanks for the advice again. Good luck w/ going in the men's department. That is where I would like to be as well. |

Hey New Hire, Most of the negative talk is from people who just have little ambition. Trust me if you follow the Bill and Alex Dillard sales plan called excels then you will do fine. Be ambitious and courteous. Learn how to do midd orders properly and play by the rules. I look forward to seeing you in a management position if you strive for it. Your new Dillards friend, Todd |
|
ILD in North Little Rock, Arkansas 50 months ago |
Oh Todd, btw, what did you mean by "play by the rules"? Should I not have asked to leave fragrance? I love my job at Dillards. I asked her to move me to customer service btw. ??????? What do you think? |
|
ILD in North Little Rock, Arkansas 50 months ago |
Todd, well, I asked them to switch me out of fragrance. I believe that I have to wait for 3 months. So, I am going to figure out how to work those midd orders in as much as possible. Our store doesn't have as much product as the plaza mall does, so I will take advantage of that with the midds. I still wish that I could be busier. I would be happier having a much larger area to cover than a fragrance counter. |
|
Todd Mayson in Charleston, South Carolina 50 months ago |
ILD, a smart move in fragrance would be to get from behind the counter and walk around closely in your area and give samples to customers. You'll be surprised how many people will buy the fragrance if they like it. :) Maintain your percentile in fragrance and they will have to move you to a better position. So how is it going so far? I hope Dillards is working out for you. |

Todd you sound like a manager, and as for ILD in fragrance how about offering customers at least 3 fragrances to try before doing a midd and try to keep the sale in your store. With a midd you get the sale but not your store. |

I would like to get out of Dillard's soon as I can.
Statement: How does this inspire me? It does not. To me this proves that situations like this,(crummy misjudgements/falsehoods/laying blame on wrong person,(when if one will do homework and working with a high performer with high expectations, and not even acknowledging their success in their assigned areas, or higher Mgmt. not even seeing the Professional right in front of their eyes, as in speaking as they are invisible) are in the local work areas as well as in Mgmt. (I did not think I would witness this), but, It will inspire and redirect those involved to follow their desires to fulfill their needs for their better future, and it is a loss for Dillard's but, great for the redirection in the professional's life. |

Speaking as a Dillards ASM, I must say that there are some managers that are not utilizing all the tools given to them by the Dillard family. I try to strictly follow the guidelines set by my vice president, Mr. Squires who gets the directives straight from The Dillard family. Engage your customers as if they were friends or family. Learn the excels program, know your associates and praise them often let them know the good hard work they have done is respected and admired. Give your associates the knowledge and tools they need to sucede in their area. I happen to manage two areas Home Store and Childrens. I have some wonderful associates. I am honored and blessed to be a part of the Dillards team and look forward to a wonderful career with this company. |

I agree we should try and keep the sale within the store but to take it a little further....if the item can only be done as a midd then by all means do the midd. Remember most customers are repeat customers and I like to think that doing all we can to make the customer happy and ensuring that they get exactly the items they desire will keep them coming back to your store. People shop because it makes them feel good about themselves so I want to keep them feeling good. |
|

The girls that I work with say not to give out samples unless they are buying something. The vendors are the one's that give them to us, they act like it's coming out of their own pocket or something. One girl actually hid them from other employees, so they couldn't hand them out. As a new hire, I don't actually know the rules there. |

People always want something that noone else has they want to be the first to have it. In fragrance you have new focus items everyweek and it usually has a free gift. As for the samples that belongs to Dillards, they are trying to protect their sales, I told you before watch your BACK!!!!!! that was for ILD. |

In Reno, it is sad to say, that the managers have had their reviews today. They all work so hard and none of them got the raise they were hoping for. The sales people, who had their reviews up in April, got hit with another pay cut. We are a new store two years in Feb and dont't have the customers to make our goals. You could work a 7 hour shift and sell $100.00 for the whole shift. Part time even less. We could make it if we had more customers. We have had an extra 50% off the 75% and still can't make it. The company once again has been wonderful to me but the moral of the store is bad. |
