Anonymous said: Sorry about my previous post. I did not realize that my actual name could be seen on it. Why are you apologizing for your previous post. Just don't complain about having to go into the office or get laid off if your not worried about getting laid off. Also, Don't feel sorry for everyone else because believe you me, we can all live without EDS. You are the one we all feel sorry for, sounds like your pretty much stuck in a situation. Good Luck to you. |

As for the recent comment about layoffs near the end of July, another layoff occurred this week at the EDS in Chesapeake Virginia. |

We used to do work for both of them in my location, however neither is an active client as of several months ago. They both chose not to renew their contracts. |

If so I'm sad to say that you're better off working for Walmart then, at least they give raises and bonuses every year. How could they expect to pay anyone with a college degree only $11/hour... that's only a few scant dollars above current minimum wage. |

The attendance policy at EDS is something else. If a person takes the family medical leave act time off and then misses other time due to sickness or a death in the family then he or she runs the risk of losing a job at EDS. It seems like an employee is basically being punished for taking care of family related emergencies. |

I can relate to this I got phenomena and I was asked to come into my boss’s office where I was integrated for 2 solid hours as to why I was not at work and to be 100% office, I was soo upset and sick to my stomach from answering questions I honestly had tears in my eyes. As a man I have never felt so low or worthless in my entire life. |

It has been known for some time that EDS has been going through some restructuring since recent layoffs. |
|
happyAZpigNpoop in Charleston, South Carolina 46 months ago |
Its often necessary at EDS for this to occur to ensure that inflated salaries at the top levels are maintained. For more information regarding this call 1-800-Dck-Brwn. |

I was told recently about an EDS employee having to receive a severence package. |

Han in Virginia Beach, Virginia 46 months ago |
It seems like the Chesapeake Virginia EDS has been having a lot of meetings during the last 3 weeks. That may be due to the restructure in its staff. I think more layoffs are coming. |

Latest rumor is that there will be a 20% across the board reduction. Anyone know if this is true? Who is safest? I would imagine anyone with a Security Clearance and on a government contract (Dept of HLS, NAVY, etc) would be untouchable. I'm a consultant with a few highly sought after certifications and much experience but I feel quite vulnerable because I'm not on a gov't assignment... and because I earn a decent salary (i.e. fair market value, not underpaid like others). On the surface, they'd save by putting my head on the chopping block. In the past, has EDS complied with the WARN Act? I know each state has specific rules in regards to the WARN Act... Is there any kind of severance pay? If yes, how much? (i.e. any courtesy bonus for years served? above what the law calls for) Is there any kind of advance warning? If so, how much? Yeah, "best shore". That term gets the Double Speak award of the year. |
|
MIrrors in southern, New Jersey 46 months ago |
WARN LAW In my state they DID NOT. I know one location that did not lay off 10% (more like 9%) of the workforce so they were under the state, but not the FED nationwide. The severance package had the small print not to sue, but if there is class action started, and I feel the will be, I will gladly sign up, And give them back their severance pay. I am one of the lucky ones, got hit the firt round way back in April. Then I saw the HP deal and knew I was ablek to slee pat nights knowing it was NOT me, but personialities trying to save their own butts, and were threatened by those who did their jobs. |

Han in Virginia Beach, Virginia 46 months ago |
I do not think that EDS can meet their service levels regarding the calls in the queue because EDS does not hire enough people to do the work. The layoffs would basically mean more calls waiting in the queue and less calls being answered per minute. |

Merger in Tulsa, Oklahoma 46 months ago |
Numbers our leaders gave us from last week round of layoffs was around 2,000 EDS wide and about 100 in the Central Hub. The financial goal was $1-2Mil (of course everyone was thinking the same thing here. we all know where we could cut that much and a whole lot more and save 2,000 jobs), not sure if this was the Hub, account or EDS wide. They also said it was NOT due to performance, only financial was the reason for the layoffs. Just relaying some info from Tulsa... |
|
Han in Virginia Beach, Virginia 46 months ago |
I guess that the recent comment was about EDS having financial or budget problems. |
|
Ben in Virginia Beach, Virginia 46 months ago |
It seems that there has been more empty seats at EDS than there has been in a long time. Hopefully, some new work projects will be coming. |

Recently, EDS announced that their reps are not allowed to have the phone numbers of insurance companies on the walls of their cubicles. |

Above someone posted about 9/1 being D-Day in terms of layoffs. And has since been pushed up into August. What I have heard is that those dates are in reference to the HP/EDS merger becoming official and finalized, not necessarily a mass layoff. Layoffs will be ongoing over the next year or so is what colleagues on my team are speculating. In terms of the WARN law. I am pretty sure I'm not entitled to a penny or a second's warning despite living in California. Why? I'm a remotely based consultant. You need to be based out of a facility with at least 50 employees, I believe. Last Thursday one of the Project Managers in our group was suddenly let go suddenly, without warning. We have since learned all he received was his last paycheck. |

EDS' behaviour and treatment of employees give a cause and justification for unions to establish and fluorish. While many unions by no way are without malice and contempt inasmuch as being mis-managed and corrupt themselves, they at least give the individual a means to counter the likewise mis-managed and incompetant corporate fopah. |

nuts to you in East Berlin, Pennsylvania said: Does anybody remember "forced rankings"? Well they're baaaack. Indeed, I remember the "quartiling" fiasco. By default, if places someone in a lower category regardless of how great a performer or individual. Its a RIF tool for sure. The travesty of it was you had imcompetent buffoons assessing and placing excellent competent folks in a sub-par category, perched for plucking to the soup line. A joke indeed. |

anon in Medford, New Jersey said: After reading these comments, just imagine what Ross Perot would be like as President! Perot has been out of the EDS picture since 1986 fer cryin' out loud. I'd venture to speculate that many of the situations described herein wouldn't be occurring if he was still associated with the company. |

I wouldn't be surprised to see any EDS/HP layoffs occur after the merger. HP just reduced their severance package a couple months ago, probably in anticipation of RIFs. They've also just reduced their 401k matching for any employee who joins after 8/1/08 (I assume this will affect all EDS folks). Legacy HP employees will continue to get 6% matching, while new folks will get 4% (which is still pretty good)...but still, it seems kinda cheesy to have different tiers of 401k matching. As an HP employee, I was not happy to learn of the acquisition, because I figured that absorbing such a large number of new employees would force HP to look at lowering benefits (again). |

You're lucky to get $11 @ training. I have 12yrs exp & only got $9 going in thru the temp service. Was stuck on the floor for 6 months before getting hired. Was told that they were in a hiring freeze yet everyone else in my training class was getting hired. You are required to work a year before you are 'eligiable' for a raise. That doesn't mean you will get one. I was given a raise when I was hired on to EDS then after a year I was given a 9% raise. But after being there 2 yrs (counting temp) I was only making .55 more than someone with no experience coming out of training. I was one of those that was let go also. I had just left the bankruptcy atty and within 2 hrs I was escorted out the door. At least I was able to clear out my things. |

In regard to the prior comment, each temp starts at 11.00/hour and there will be probably no pay increases this year until the merger or sale with HP becomes final. |

I was notified of my pending layoff in April and given 30 days. It's kinda hard to walk someone out of their own house! I was lucky, management broadcast that I was going to be laid off months before it happened, they were also gracious and gave me 30 days notice. I had plenty of time to get things in order. Spent a couple of months tuning my resume and interview skill before I nailed a good job. EDS is the type of company that will take years off of your life. Best thing that anyone can do is get on short term disability and take 5 months off to get their life in order. EDS has a very generous Short Term Disability! Get the blood pressure down, take a couple of interviews, spend time with the family and get those projects done around the house. Then when you come back to work you know that in the next round of layoff's your gone! Still it won't matter, you've gotten you house in order. EDS is toxic, getting laid off from them is a good thing |

The next layoffs in Ehro (EDS) are scheduled for 8/31. Batten down the hatches once more! |

I am so glad I was one of the first laid off, way back on April 22,2008. I am not sweating out the possibility of being laid off and shaking in my boots, looking for another job, while working in an iffy situation For some of those still working there--- they deserve the insecurity. For others, I hope they stay and are rewarded for their high work ethic. Lastly I have been looking in other arenas and the jobs are few and far between. Good thing my state has the federal unemployment extemsion. |

Has anyone heard of anything going on at EDS Herndon?

|
Ben in Virginia Beach, Virginia 46 months ago |
I am wondering if the next round of layoffs are due to EDS having less clients. Some of the teams at the EDS Chesapeake office have reduced their workforce. |
|
Stop the madness in Southern, New Jersey 46 months ago |
I can only speak for EDS/EHRO but the upcoming layoffs as well as the ones planned for 12/31 are due to the numerous teams with deconverting clients. If new business doesn't come in the door, clearly we don't need as many people. |
|
Lost in Paradise in Northfield, Illinois 46 months ago |
How much of the loss of clients and the difficulty in getting more business in the door is not due to the high dependence on off shore staff? Combine this with the reality that the profit margin is dropping as off shore staff start demanding more money. The simple reality is that there are only so many companies that are willing to let thier business information be off shored. When this is complicated by the various EU laws regarding off shoring of data it makes one ask the question. Has the off shoring of IT jobs reached it's zenith and will the bubble burst sending jobs back into this country. With this will major outscouring companies start struggling to find local employees from a reduced labor pool that they destroyed? |

Thanks for the update Borg. Latest word I hear from my Herndon buddies is that EDS Herndon will be having layoffs Thursday and Friday (Aug 21 and 22). |
