What are the average starting salaries, bonuses, benefits and travel requirements like at EDS?

What do you like best about working at EDS? Are there any great perks or special treats for employees?

I will say this the Benefits at EDS are really really good! The health benefits are the best! They also have lots of free things they make available to their employees counseling, councils for cancer patients and the family all for free. This is the best part of EDS and who knows maybe you will have better luck than me in this company everybody has a difference experience and if anyone goes here I wish you all the luck in the world!

I will tell you, after my 9 years of work there with 6 promotions I didn't get a single raise with any promotion. Because of this my salary is terribly low. I didn't complain because I was getting overtime. Since there isn't a shortage of work to be done I was making quite a bit of money with OT. Then they decided to make me exempt yet still requiring me to work the hours. I'm finally ready to move to a different company and the offer I got for the same work is netting me a 70% increase in salary.

So, my advice is to get a good salary in the beginning because you will not get there any other way with this company.

I will be starting at EDS in another week. Does anyone know if they offer any kind of tuition assistance programs. I'm trying to get my bachelors degree in IT Communications and was curious to know if they will help with my tuition cost.

It totally depends on your manager and if it fits with your position at the company. I know of people who got reimbursed for their continued education and I know of others that had to go to school for their exact job and are getting nothing.

They don't offer tuition assistance to my knowledge, but offer vouchers or certification re-imbursements. For example, if you wanted to get your MCSE certification. They would give you a voucher for you to use to pay for the exam or re-imburse you once you pass the certification. However, they will not pay you for any of the course materials or classes you may want to take to prepare for the exam.

If you are looking for a company that provides annual salary increases and bonuses, this is not it. When I was first transitioned to EDS, there were people who had worked for EDS for over 7 years without a salary increase. During the two years I worked there, I received one 2.5% increase and was told that was a fantastic raise.

Most companies will pay $1600 - $2500 per good referral even EDS - so this is a scam!!! Remember this company is only giving you a small slice of what they are getting!!!

Not that I'd recommend anyone for a position in IT. Project Mgmnt is the way to go ...

set it straight........ tuition assistance = depends on manager/ degree program / budget. SO, the answer is YES....IF you have manager pre-approval, taking an approved degree program (in your field), and the business unit has the budgeted funds to cover.... simple answer.

Raises = depends..... your place in your job code range. If you an over paid engineer ..... then, yea, don't expect a big raise. If you are low in your job code range.... then you can expect a raise. If you improve your skills..... yea, expect a raise. If you take on more responsibility .... yea, expect a raise............. Now, if you are dead wood, negative all the time, never step up to take on new responsibility, and the last technical call you took was the What's new is DOS 3.0.... then you should not expect a raise.... heck.. you don't deserve it.

EDS runs business just as you would if you OWNED the company. You reward people that are exceptional employees the most, then the excellent performers, then ...... on down the line. The folks that never saw a raise in more than 2 years.... somethings is very wrong.... and it's the the salary action plan.... its YOU!!

I hope that helps!

EDS is a demanding place to work.... if you want to sit back and get a raise for doing your job like any other joe could.... don't pick EDS. IF you are looking to better yourself in your job field, If you are willing to step up and take on new projects/ offers/ ... If you are willing to work hard and expect the same from everyone else.... yea, EDS is the place for you.

From someone who knows.

I'm sure glad you are having a good experience there. Funny how I leave the company and get a 29k raise for doing the same work. Great job giving raises for a good performer. At least my PDP (performance development plan) said I was doing a good job as well as my peer reviews.

What else is an employee supposed to go on? I really don't think all the negative comments are deadwood employees, I think it's more likely that you are simply defending them because you are either lucky, new or perhaps management there.

Jojo ... someone who knows ... or more correctly ... someone who does not know!!! raises and bonuses are determined on a preset basis, depending on monies available within a contract (period)
there is usually never enough to go around after mid level sharks take their bite.

Yes there can be rewards, but there can also be major screws ... like managers receiving rewards for cost containment and gee ... what is the biggest cost ... why its human capital ... and gee ... isn't that why so many jobs are going best shore ...

Let me guess ... your one of the people who look good by trashing your co-workers ... guess yow will do well on the bell curve.

Best Shore, LOL

It might actually work if the turnover wasn't so high with the overseas guys. I have a better idea for the sharks, reward your people and the client might actually be happy. Don't wait for the dashboard to turn red to actually take care of the customer.

what dashboard ... thats only a small part of how you're rated. You can receive many accolades from the customer, even where rival contractor companies don't even get a nod, you can save the company money - but ..... under the current ranking system (five levels) ... for every one above mid tier - there has to be an equal number below mid tier ... figure it out ... its bell curve. So if you're a top performer you'll only be recognized if a manger has lambs to sacrifice.

you've got to love forced ranking. Not only will you be sacrificed to the favorite employee you are also fighting all other people in your extended department in many cases. Now I hear from the remaining employees that they are releasing early retirement again and might actually lower severance soon again.

I don't know about the lowering of severance, but the early retirement is on the money.

First of all, I hope I am talking about the same company as everyone on this site (www.eds.com)
I was offered a job at EDS. Does anyone know if they negotiate salary? When the corporate office called me ahead of time to screen me for an interview, I told them my salary requirements. I got the interview (assuming my requirements must have been okay). When I was called with an offer it was 4k less than my offer (4k less than what I make now). I have to call back in the morning with an answer and I REALLY want the job but I don't know how to negotiate or even if they will. My heart felt like it dropped in my stomach when he told me the salary. I have been waiting foever to get that call. I am so disappointed.

I was able to negotiate an extra 12% when I was hired. Go for it. All they can say is no.

How did you approach the issue. I REALLY want the job but I have no idea how even start when I call back. I absolutely cannot afford to take a 4k paycut. And I would if I could because I hate my current job and want out that bad!

Simply tell them you need to start at your current salary.

When I started they asked what I wanted to make and I told them. I then went in to the executive interview and they offered me less than what I wanted. I told them I was coming in with more experience than what they were offering to pay me at. Granted, when I came in it was almost entry level.

Trust me, get what you can, when you can because it will take forever to increase your salary once you're there.

Salary depends on the contract and the profit margin. Some are better than others. If the contract is well funded and the need is great ... there is room to negotiate upwards. If the contract is too narrow and the margin too slim, then they won't budge. Even people within the company can find placement very difficult if they make too much and want to jump to another contract.

Well thank you all. I asked to negotiate and they would not meet my requirements to pay me my current salary so I had to walk away.

Sorry to hear they couldn't meet your demands. I've always worked in their SMC's so I never was limited by contract issues. I guess the reason I was able to get more might have been budget reasons or it could be that they tried to start me at entry level salary and I had experience in the job so they had no issues raising it some.

Good luck if you find anything else!

I LOL'd at alot of the comments here, only because they were too true.

As someone who was embraced into the EDS fold during their invasion and assimilation of my previous company, I would say that monetary advancement is a rare occurrence. I've actually heard that you can make more by leaving the company and coming back after a short time to be rehired at a higher salary.

inqubus, they say it's the best 1st and 3rd job. I'm not so sure about the best part but pay would be more competitive if you left and returned.

I completed the online information and filled in my required salary which I used as my current salary at the time. My current salary was 29k, I was offered 22k and when I asked about negotiating, I was just told that they cannot come close. I would have taken 25k because I hated my job at the time and I liked EDS as a company.

In my 25 years of working in IT and working for 3 fortune 500 companies I can honestly say EDS is the worst company I have ever worked for. Raises are non existant..even going to a higher position here is a "lateral move" ie no pay increase. Also reviews ( if you actually get one ) are 24 months apart, no yearly review. Based on the paltry "raise" I got after being here for 4 years, i am making less than when i started as far as buying power. I'm no slacker, I have numerous "above and beyond" awards from the client. but nothing from EDS. If you have a choice, dont work form them. If you really need the job, lok up the industry standard pay for your specialty and do nott budge off that number, because you'll never make any more than that.

I too have experienced the EDS no pay raise no bonus garbage. I was brought into the EDS fold when I was outsourced. I bit my lower lip, held on to get the various sign on and retention bonuses and was so glad to be handed a pink slip and severage package. I have received superior performances everywhere I have worked and when I was laid off the client was a bit upset. A superior performance at EDS is when an employee dies at their desk and they keep working for 2 or 3 years with no pay, oxygen, food or need to sleep.

I do have to question. Does the EDS staff in India get raises?

I am absolutely confident that the EU EDS staff gets raises.

Well, the huge company I am working for is looking to outsource its entire IT staff (400+) and, according to our EDS meeting, only a handful of people will be left behind.

I am worried that if I accept a position with EDS, it will mean no more raises, bonuses, etc. After reading all the negative reviews here, I am wondering if I should just take the severance package and let it be.

I know this post is old but, has anything changed in the last couple of months? I was not impressed by their "benefits" package:

- No Tuition reimbursement
- Will only match 25% of 401k vs the normal 100% of the old company
- No ESPP

I'm not, and that's from someone who's worked at EDS UK for 5 years.

EDS would rather take on people who cannot do the job, as long as they come cheap.
They don't, in my experience, pay a decent amount to keep experienced and capable personnel from leaving.

EDS outsources most of its jobs, if you are in the US, you have no job security.
Most of the negative reviews I read here are true.
