Do you work at EDS? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview? Any advice for someone trying to get in? |

I was recuited by EDS last year for an interview. I went to the interview and after an hour of talking with my soon-to-be boss, I was handed an offer letter on the spot. I found this very unusual, but I accepted. The salary was lower than my previous job but that was to be expected because my clearance wasn't required. The job offered a great lerning opportunity but I wish now I would have trusted my instincts that day and declined the offer. My quality of life has suffered since that day. It is pretty standard to expect to work 50-60 hour weeks and the pressure when projects are due is unbelievable. Planning vacation, even well in advance, is no quarantee that when the time comes you will be able to take the time. Try to schedule a doctor's appointment and actually make it, good luck. Don't get me wrong, I'll work as hard and long as the next person giving 150% when I feel appreciated. It is quite sad that EDS management does not value their people over their own drive. So, you looking for a job? I'll give you mine! |

If your in NC don't worry. My experience is probably more related to management where I'm at not EDS as a whole... I hope. My advice is to take everything you hear or read with a grain of salt. You'll be fine and good luck. |

When I was written up I was told "This is not an 8-5 job!" It was frowned upon when I left work at 5pm. I had to go into the office some days and when I left at 5 they thought I was crazy now if I hae a client to speak with etc. I have no problem staying late but when I did go into the office I stayed their until 7 or 8 PM! So it's not an 8-5 company keep that in mind!!! you can have ny jobin Tulsa, Oklahoma said: Hey Sunny Days. |

Oh my God!!! I guess I'm blessed with the burden of debt. I applied, received a call, shceduled and interview. As a matter of fact there were 2 interviews, one guy was out of the office. Within a week, I was offered and accepted the position. Started on 7/28, went through the Eqip, August 7 denied inerim clearance and ZIPPP you're outta here. One good thing is (guilt)they kept me on payroll for another 30 days. Pay wasn't so bad. |

Host said: Do you work at EDS? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview? Volt Services Group Direct Hires People on EDS. You get an interview pretty quickly and you don't have to be temporary if you don't want that. That's the best way to get into EDS. |

Eric in Wheaton, Illinois, Now that I see this on the hours situation, the girl that was training me the first week was always taking her laptop home to work and never showed up to work on time. Although she was transitioning to a new position, new manager (out of state)since when does an admin salaried position require you to work late nights? she had so many conference calls scheduled with her new Team she could not even get her work done. No additional compensation for working OT, not unless it was her own fault at not managing her time properly Once again, I'm blessed not being able to get a clearance |

I had never seen so many cubicles in one room until I went for the interview, that should have scared me, but I wasn't going in on the Helpdesk side. Just on the one floor, I beleive there were at least 50 people in one room. Yep, there were some empty ones, it was an ocean of low cut cubicles |

Sadly, the negative reviews in here are quite accurate. Expect 60+ hour weeks, taking your laptop home. In fact, I'm posting this while I work at home from their laptop. Benefits are great, pay stinks and management is lousy. Enjoy! |

So, you looking for a job? I'll give you mine! I worked for EDS out of their Herndon, VA office for almost 5 years and only left because of family issues (kids)..My first 2 years on an outside contract I hated it! There was very little management and anything goes on a contract, you are at the mercy of the onsite manager who in my contract played huge favors (people were paid that never came to work, planned their wedding during work hours, doubled salary "just because"), etc...then I moved to a corporate account at Herndon and I LOVED IT! I wish I could go back! They do have great training programs (in-house and they use to offer tuition assistance not sure if they still do). Great benefits too. I was once told that EDS is the best place for your 1st & 3rd job..I never understood until I started working there. My salary when I left was about $30K under what I should have been paid. Once you leave, if they rehire you, they won't |

Host said: Do you work at EDS? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview? The easiest way to become employed by EDS is to begin working for a company and have EDS come in and perform a hostile take over of said company. heh heh |

The only reason to get a job with EDS is to quickly gain experience. Target what you want to learn, check out their website, see what and where things are offered. If you get a job be prepared for scheduled 60 ~ 80 hour weeks AND 24 X 7 call. After about 18 months start looking for a new job with the intent of jumping ship after two years. Do not believe for one second that EDS is a long term employer. It is good quick experience. If employment with EDS is targeted that way from the begining then there will be few if any disappointments. Two years and out the door. EDS gave me some very good experience and some fantastic things to put on my resume. I did not choose to work for them, I was outscoured by the employer I choose to work for. Expect nothing and you will not be disappointed. |

EDS is always having mandatory overtime. They only give you a few days notice...if your lucky. Also, if you don't sign up for the overtime that is required, the draft you. That means they reschedule your work week with the extra hours & put you in ungodly work times. ie your day off or at night. They don't care if you have kids or if you have to pay extra for daycare overtime fees. |

The lay off strategy at EDS is if the job is getting done, there must be excess resources that can be laid off. The only reward for hard work is someone in your organization will be laid off shortly, it might be you. If you don't get laid off today, there will be another round coming soon. |

Learn as much as you can, get lots of experience. Then, if/when things turn sour ... quit. |

I ca't comprehend anyone wanting to work for a company who's major business is outsourcing (as in OUT OF THE USA). |

That's quite common, IT became a cost center after the mid 90's even though its critical to the business, it doesnt add up. Just consider the same wisdom collapsed our economy, Lehman Brothers sliced it up, AIG insured it, Citibank and Wachovia bought into it large beyond Greenspans believe that they would cause there own dismise. Friends at SUN and IBM state the same conclusions, if you are lucky enough to work with a good group that enjoys there work you will be happy, same hours and demands. Have to find ways to worker smarter, for example, the same service in professional services took 1/4 of the time if the releases did not change. Sometimes with the management you have you keep your mouth shut when its too easy. |

Quickly, I will try and make a point. Temp agencies are nothing more than an arm for large corporations that want to avoid paying benefits and want the authority without the culpability to fire at will. They have been able to skirt around laws made in this county to protect its workers. Obama wants to tax banks. That will do nothing by trickle the tax down to the working man. The days of Temp Agencies and the large Corporations need to end and a large scale law suit would be just what we as workers need. This is not unlike the 50's and 60-70's where equal rights were fought for. We are now fighting for jobs. Shame on all these large fat cats that will end up destroying the middle class. Wells Fargo, Bank of America, and all the other fat cats can rot in hell. I hope the government does take over the banks. Not because I am a socialist, but because I would like to see the faces of the fat cats as they are escorted out of their bonuses while the rest of us struggle to be even hired by a temp agency. Bitter? Yes, yes I am. |
