How much severance has EDS Canada / HP paid to laid off employees?
Any input will be greatly appreciated as I'm trying to accumulate some stats about local layoffs.

thank you

I heard something like 3 weeks per year, plus an additional 4 weeks.
This might interest you as well.

Apparently, EDS should be paying overtime in Canada, as the overtime exemption I've seen appears to only apply to "information systems professionals", a protected title (think doctor, lawyer, etc...).

Your typical EDS Systems Admin, is *not* an information systems professional. Check out some of the occupational info sites, they make over a 100k a year on average.

On a related note, I heard they're trying to do away with pager pay next...

I've got all the urls a coworker from Alberta sent me re: labor standards, overtime exceptions and
the use of the term ""information systems professionals", but the forum appears to not allow urls.

Basically, I'd suggest you look up the labor standards for your province, look for jobs that aren't eligible for overtime, and see if they're trying to weasel out of paying you by pretending you're an "information systems professional".

I believe you can file an anonymous complaint with labor standards, that way you're not setting yourself up to be murdered (wouldn't put it past them at this point), should you end up costing the company millions.
