What do you think -- is this company going to survive and thrive? Are they looking to expand their staff, or do you think layoffs are inevitable?

How does Edward Jones stack up against the competition?

Don't have any idea what AJ1's comments mean but I have looked at many brokerage firms and the only other firm that compared favorably with Jones was A.G. Edwards, which has now been purchased by Wachovia Securities. Many of their best brokers are now leaving as the philosophy of Wachovia Securities is very different than A.G. Edwards. In fact, if the original family members that started A.G. Edwards were still alive they wouldn't have sold for all the money in the world. Anyway, commission is 40% of total at Jones, which is superb since they pick up 100% of the overhead, which is way more than 10% of the gross. Later, when you have a profitable branch you receive P&L bonuses, effectively giving back to you more than 10%. So they reward top producers. I wouldn't be in the business if it wasn't for Jones.

HELLO- not only are the Edwards family members alive; they're starting a new firm in St. Louis and its being called....Benjamin F. Edwards & Sons. And guess what; Jones does not pick up 100% of the overhead..unless you are related to someone special.
