IMO it takes 2 weeks at the max /round.
On an avg. it'll take 8 days/round...so you should be fine by Mar 20th.

Hope it helps.

Hi,

Have you got any news from Epic after you took your test?

I am also waiting for the result. So if you have any updates, please let me know.

Thanks

I gave my assessment test and on-site interview 1.5 weeks back. I had already passed the Programming test when I did this.

How soon can I expect a call?

Hi Micheal,

How was your on-site interview? I have it in next week. Can you give me sample questions and explain how was it?

I cannot reveal the nature of the questions, since I signed an NDA, which specifically stated that I should not do so.

However, in general terms, the on-site interview is not really difficult. You have to present a software (lots of questions will be asked, so be prepared). You will then be interviewed by a HR person (who will ask a lot of HR stuff, like strengths, weaknesses, what you learned from any past job/internship/on-campus, what you (dis)-liked about EPIC etc).

Finally, you will be given 3 tests (if applying for a programming position). The tests are not hard at all. Their is a simple logic test (with a stringent time limit). A simpler than GRE math test and a "make believe programming" test. The "make believe" programming test does not test your programming logic. It tests how fast you can pick up a new programming environment.

They will get back to you in 12-14 days.

I am assuming that you have already passed the logic programming test.

Good luck.

Anyways can I have an idea which kinds of questions they ask during presentation? And how much salary they offer? should I tell them some specific range in HR interview? I haven't experience in that. I have done MS in CS and have 2 yrs of experience. So, please just give me an idea. And I also read in forums that on-site is a small formality, you are almost get hired!! Means still we have to perform well at on-site.
Thanks again for your fast response. Waiting for your reply.

Nice point. The HR will ask you for the salary range. I started off this answer by saying that I wanted whatever was competitive. To which she said, that she wanted to hear a specific figure. To which I answered 65K per annum negotiable, to which she said that given my points (more on this later), the minimum salary that I qualify is 70K / annum and the final figure that I got was actually much higher than that. Epic Systems pay really well :)

The Point System:
==================
Epic Systems is known (not confirmed) for having a point based system in everything. So they will sum up the points for the tests that you give, for the presentation and finally for your degree etc (I am a MS in CS too). Generally, they are paying $70K+ to all MS graduates (which I believe is a minimum for MS).

The questions during the software presentation are diverse. They can range from explaining an algorithm TO how you would find your way out of a sticky problem TO team work etc.

The on-site interview should not be considered a formality. 2 people I know got rejected during this phase. It is not difficult per se; but it can be stressful. The toughest part would be the HR interview imo; don't mess that up.

Good Luck :)

I had an interesting experience.I made it till the on-site interview. I won't give info regarding anything that comes near the NDA, but this should help.

1.Phone Interview: Was a breeze(both the times). You should be able to explain the projects/work on the resume..in good detail.read-up a little about Epic and know why you want to join it.

2.Skill Assessment-I have given this twice too..the first time, I failed.the second time I passed. (DIFFERENT QUESTIONS BOTH THE TIMES)

Well, as far as I am concerned, I performed equally well both the times..but maybe before the competition was fierce(many were job-hunting then..at least in my college, most of my colleagues were giving the test..the 2nd time there were very few people).

q1- very easy.focus on carefully reading the problem.what should be the iput/oput.etc.cannot mess this up

q2- similar to before in terms of what is needed. can't mess this up

q3- needs logic(averagge/above average).reading in detail for some catch/hint applies to all questions

q4&5- same as third..requires more logic(can be called difficult.in my 2nd test that I passed,I told quiet a few people about my Aha moment which solved the problem)

(3)On Site: I was selected, my flight was booked and yet I gave this interview 0 times.I applied thru my university's system. Got rejected. Applied again 6 months later.got thru till onsite interview..BUT I DIDN'T tell the person in touch with me via email THAT THIS IS ATTEMPT 2.(when/why should I? no one asked me(if it matters, companies DO ASK THAT(google,MS,etc).don't they have an epic database?).So my flight was booked.got a call a few hours before(u didnt say this was attempt 2? we looked at both attempts COMBINED, and THAT is not good enough. though 2nd one was good! so dont come.well,my bad..fine).I did prepare for it(made slides!)but didn't go there.(Got a Job In NY City!it worked out great.else this comment would have been very bitter :-) )

Hey Michael.

I applied for the Software Engineer position and got called back for the OnSite interview. In the email invite to me, the HR says that I will be given a Programming Assessment (done in the language of your choice).

I am a little confused. In the previous round, I had done the programming assessment at a local library and somebody had proctored it.

Was there a programming assessment given at your onsite interview also,or was it just the make believe programming test? Also, you took a proctored programming assessment prior to the invite to the onsite interview right?

Thank you.

- Was this comment helpful? Yes / No Reply - Report abuse

Micheal Bawyer in Houston, Texas

Yes, I took a proctored written programming test (any language of my choice) in a local library BEFORE the on-site interview.

During the on-site interview I gave a few tests, one of them being the "make believe" programming test (which does NOT test programming logic). I cannot delve into details because of the NDA.

My HR person also made the mistake of telling me that I had to go through the programming assessment again. I emailed saying that I had already given it and passed it. I did not get an email back. However, on the day of the on-site interview, I did not have to go thru it again.

Apparently (and I might be wrong on this), but if you live in the vicinity of Wisconsin, Epic will just invite you over to their campus and make you go through the logic based programming test (the one you gave in your local library) on-site. They just have a general e-mail for all candidates (those who give the test in a library and those who give it on-site) going around, which is the source of this confusion

Hey Michael:

How do you know it takes 12-14 days to hear back from them? Is this what the HR told you? When I talked to her onsite, she said it would take a maximum of 2 weeks, but it would be much faster since i had given her my references and transcripts.

If they accept or reject you will it take 12-14 days? Or will the time periods vary based on whether you are accepted or not?

I went there a week ago, and am waiting to hear from them.

thanks

I'm just glad to hear someone else who went there a week ago is still waiting to hear from them. I was convinced that meant a rejection letter was in the mail for me. It probably still does, though, since none of my references have been contacted and I'm convinced I flubbed the interview. :(

I got the "moving on with other candidates" call today, so if you haven't heard yet, you could still be good. It sounds like your interview was before mine, so maybe they're still checking references. They didn't even check mine. They weren't specific, but it sounded like my crappy programming test played a big role, too. (I have pretty good transcripts and experience, and they said it was after "looking at my materials.") But who really knows? I'm bummed, but trying to shrug it off (not easy).

Anyway, good luck to you! I hope it works out for you.

Dude! Don't ask the same questions again and again. Multiple people have detailed the steps of the interview process, rough time to get an answer, what to expect, difficulty level etc.

Stop wasting your time and take time to read through this thread, before asking.

if you are selected, you will be flown out to onsite interview. I believe this is the last step in the process.

onsite interview consists of:

1) Tests (2 minute IQ Test, New programming language test (Multiple Choice 20 Questions), Math test)
2) Tour of Epic (given by HR)
3) Presentation and overview of Epic (given by HR)
4) Interview and Presentation (given by YOU to Software Engineer). Bring handouts. Laptops/computers not allowed. You need to present your topic and answer questions in 20 minutes
4) Lunch
5) Wrap-Up with HR Recruiter (Interview)
6 Programming Assessment (4 questions) and you can finish up the Tests if you didnt in the morning. Programming Assessment is similar to the one you gave in the library, but it is slightly easier.

Hope that helps.

Just thought I would add: a lot of the interviews are about what you would do in a certain situation. Whether or not you would report a co-worker if they had a bad idea, etc.

Also, from what I gather, EVERYONE has to take some sort of programming test (supposedly, even the cooks have to take one!).

How long does it take for epic to respond after attending onsite interviews. On the day of interview, HR told that they will respond in 1 to 2 weeks. But it has crossed 2 weeks. HR has contacted one of the references.
