I have an interview with Frito Lay, Cranston, RI for a Route Sales and need some advice. This is my third time interviewing with the company. My other two times I received a rejection letter stating that better qualified candidates were chosen. On my second interview the hiring manager actually remembered me and told me that it was like the lottery. Was is going on here? Also, has anyone worked at the Cranston, RI plant?

k said: The interview is extensive!! They do a complete background check if you get that far. The interview its self is easy, for me at least. IU will say over 200 people interviewed and I was one of two people who got the job. I hated every minute of it. Being a single mother, the hours were way too long and the pay was little. I make triple what I made there now. For being such a large company you would think they would pay better but they don't. The hours are very long if you are a driver! And we worked the holidays!

Best to you!

Hello k, you seem like you know your stuff!! I have a question for you its a little different here in ga I am a single parent also with two very small kids just went through a divorce, I am waiting on frito lay to call me back also. I applied a couple years ago and recieved a denial letter in the mail. I went to truck driving school and came back home to care for my kids. I have applied for a packing position. When they called me the first time for the interview I couldn't make it I turned it down I had to go out of town" family matters". I didn't think they was going to call me back but they did. I went through the interview the very same day I took the test. I passed. Then maybe a week later they called me for my second interview. I passed. Then they conducted my background. They said it would take two weeks, my god its was going on two weeks and a day. I called to check the status and they say they are still waiting on my background that was a week and three days ago. I haven't heard anything. I know on my background I have teo charges but they were dismissed I was flsely accused. Here in ga If they accuse you even if its dismissed they still place it on your background I can have it expunged but it costs and I just don't have that. Its not violant. I dont' know what to expect. On my job history I couldn't really remember the dates that well but i was close enough. Do you think that may cause me to just forget it

Yeah Frito Lay pays good. I packed cookies. Watched cracker line. Pretty easy. Volunteer for overtime if you want more money. They are very pro-active problem solvers. Any employee can join a committee to solve safety problems, budget problems, etc. This is not a upper-management run company, this is an employee run company. I worked at plant in Pulaski, Tennessee. Great job. Go for it.

As of September 2009, Frito Lay will no longer handle cash on its routes; it will become cashless/accounts payable, including the small convenience stores.

Businesses (large and small) will receive an invoice, and will mail payments to Frito. I am currently in the interview process for the Mountain District (Wyo/Co/Neb/S Dakota),and had a route ride (in October) with a 3-year route associate, and this was news passed on to me by said route driver.

Also of note, I had an online psychological test AND the Math test (both multiple choice) all online *after* I completed the online application process...apparently the pre-screen hiring process has been streamlined.

I received a message while online with the Frito website (after I completed both exams, as they were apparently scored on the spot), that said something along the lines of, "you are a good fit for Frito Lay, we will be in touch momentarily." I then received an email (within 9 days) from the Mountain District HR office in Ft. Collins to call a specific number for a brief 15 minute pre-screen phone interview. At this point, I was offered a route ride.

My route ride lasted from 4:45AM until about 4PM, as I remained after the ride while the route driver loaded his truck for the next day. Everyone worked as a team at the facility, and everyone punched for lunch, for 30 minutes. It was a PERFECT day, and convinced me that Frito (at least in the Mountain District) is pretty laid back and wants everyone to succeed. As a precaution, before you strap in to the jump seat for the route ride...
You WILL sign a form stating that you are NOT to work while on the route ride, meaning handling any merchandise, or otherwise impede the route rep's workflow.
It is from my experience and subtle suggestion that you LISTEN to your route rep while on the route ride, and make the call whether to help him/her complete their tasks efficently and quickly, or to just sit with your hands in your pockets.

The main reason I am posting is that some things have changed in the hiring process...and MANY, MANY folks have credit issues due to being unemployed (delinquencies and foreclosures, etc.)...and you should NOT let past hiring processes deter you from applying. If you have a decent, understanding person in HR, you will be hired, so long as you have absolutely NO prior felonies, criminal convictions, serious misdemeanors, or have used any drugs.

I believe, even if the route cash handling was still in place, that if you were otherwise sqeaky clean (drugs/background check), and could provide an explanation as to why your credit was shot, you could still stand a good chance of getting hired on. Just don't let that deter you!

Best of luck to everyone out there. I'll post more after my sit-down/face-to- face interview.

Keep in mind, every district is different.
WoM

I have an interview this Wednesday to work in the warehouse. From researching online and viewing other comments on drug tests procedures, i am still wondering whether this warehouse in Raleigh do hair samples for drug testing. All i have been seeing were sales representatives being tested like that. I also seen that they do swab tests as well in other areas. I would like to know what I'm in for. Like i said it is only a warehouse job, nothing too serious. I really want this job. It would be twice as much pay as i use to get in FL. Can anyone help?

Anyone know what kind of math questions or story questions are on the assessment testing in the route sales rep interview and do you get ample time to complete it. I get kind of nervous taking tests that are timed but I know I can handle the job. I was recently laid off as a grocery manager and I am now working part time as a merchandiser. I need to know if anybody can talk me through the interview testing and what I should expect. Thanks

I recently had a phone interview for sales and sales operations internship. It was about a 30 minute phone screen and some questions asked were: What is my proudest accomplishment, why did I chose the University that I attend, I described a time where I had to handle a difficult customer, Why do I want to work for frito lay, she asked to talk about my background, she asked about prior experiences, if I would require relocation and then gave me time to ask some questions as well.

Jane said: After one month, I finally found out I got the job. Written test ( remember it is all about Frito Lay) three interviews, background check and hair follicle drug test ( goes back three months). In the interview process, the ask what you would do in certain situations (again remember it is all about Frito Lay) and what you have done in certain situations. They ask why you want to work for Frito Lay ( tell them that you heard it was a "great place to be" that is their motto and they eat that up...

Congrats! Could not be happier for you! I have submitted my application, I got through to the assessment part of the app which takes 75 minutes..Answered all the questions. I am hoping I get a call. I am an experienced Merchandiser and am working now as a Merchandiser. I want to get into this Company SO bad. I talked with a gal that has been with the Company for 5 years now, she said to be very patient as it can take a while. there are at least 5 interviews that you go through. And yes there is a hair test as well..She said she has her own route and works between 50 and 60 hours a week, they do start you out at $15.00 an hour which in this day is wonderful! She also said that they love to hear about how great the Company is, and yes it is all about stroking the ego of Frito Lay..which makes total since as you are representing their brand. You are their distributor, salesman and merchandiser..Meaning you take complete control and responsibility of your route. So I get the hair test totally..Good luck to everyone..Including me!!!!!

George23 in Barnhart, Missouri said: What are the differences between the Route Sales Rep and Mechandisers....Sounds the same to me?

Also, what types of hours do you work? Do you schedule your own hours?

What should I expect at the initial job selection test and pre-screen interview?

Nothing...You are the salesman and the Merchandiser for your route...

just had an interview today (2/2/2012). for a warehouse position. the interview took 20min, and consisted of questions like:
please describe a situation where you realized an employee was doing something wrong, and what you did. another question was: please describe a situation where you saw something unsafe. and what you did once you realized this situation.there was two(2) people asking these types of questions. i assume they will pick the best ones, and schedule 1 on 1 to determine who gets the job. will keep everyone informed. say they will call next week for people who passed this first interview.
