I have lived here all my life, and would NEVER leave! The recession down here is very mild, not like up North. You can afford to buy a house down here, reasonable prices. Our cost of living is not bad, most people are confortable. Some are struggling but that depends on your occupation. We DO NOT have a state income tax like up north, all we have is IRS.

Thanks for the help. It looks like a tiring job but fun for some reason. I'm sure some guys get nasty customers which I'm sure is annoying but you get that every where. My friend who worked at Frito for 1 week said they had some NASTY ones. One manager he saw threw the UTZ guy out.

Like I said in one of my eailier post I am working on becoming a firefighter. And since CA cost of living is super high, and jobs are slim especially firefighters, I am willing to relocate to another state. And I have some friends that live in TX, and my ex manager said to try texas, was just wondering.

Cheers

I love Texas.....but I live in a very humid area and the summers can be unbearable.Other then that I have nothing to complain about....one of my best friends is a firefighter in San Marcos and my wifes Dad is a firefighter in Galveston. I was thinking of joining up but Im 31.....I know the cutoff age is 36 but I figure they wont pick me over a younger guy.

Collins let me know what the interviewing process is at Cintas,if you don't mind? My friend said its a phone call and then 3 interviews. Then you ride with a guy for free one time just to see what the job is. Any advice for the interview? I can't believe they pay is so good. Take home pay between 600 and 1,100 per week is very good money and I'd be in heaven coming from what unemployment pays. Thanks for the help again.

Thanks Collins. It actually looks like a great job the more and more I look at it and find out about it. The more employee reviews I read about it too. Some negative but your always going to get some people that just don't like a job no matter how good it may be. Thanks again

Your right about that. After Frito this job is refreshing. You do work hard, don't get me wrong on that. But, its a four day work week! I can do anything four days a week! In my DC there is a lot of guys that have been there for 20+ years! That in itself says something for Cintas. Frito wanted everything I had and more.
Now I have everything, family time, church, 3 day weekends, plus I make a good living! Its the complete package for me.

I have worked for Frito Lay for 21 months..I fell into the bulk 24 swing route (apparently not one else wanted it and it was up for bid) I LOVE IT!!! The caompany has been more than fair to me and I wouldn't quit or give up my route for anything. I am sorry most of you have had bad experiences with this company..everything for me has been totally awesome! I work between 50 and 55 hours a week, and those hours go really fast. This is not a boring job and I hope to keep it. Now for the bad part...lol. since this is a great company, no one quits...lol. I am third from the bottom of the food chain, we have been told we are going to super bulk, that routes are going to be restructured and there is going to be a rebidding. I am absolutely terrified someone is going to bid for my job. Since bidding goes by seniority this for me literally is seeming to suck. I have been told it will all work out, I am not sure i want a smaller format route. I love the bulk trucks, it's all I have done, even with my first ride along before i was hired...I have been told it will all work out but I am so scared I am going to lose my route..it's literally making me sick lol...I have busted my butt on this route for almost two years and because of seniority issues someone might just decide they want my position and I know being third from the bottom I won;t be put on a really cool route...lol. Anyway, I will deal with whatever happens but this whole super bulk bidding process supposedly takes a month to complete and we're not doing the actual bidding until march 29th...the stress of it all...lol. Pray for me please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That revision is why I left Frito! I lost my super-bulk route all the way down to a swing on a mega!!! This revision is going nation wide, and they cut routes out, and condence them into other routes to make them bigger. The xtra trucks were sold. Now 50 to 55 hours is to much to work anywhere, thats not good hours. If your only doing 40 to 45 its not bad. This last revision my friend has '18' YEARS IN WITH FRITO. AFTER THIS LAST REVISION SHE IS A MERCHANDIZER!! '18' YEARS!! She transferred down here a couple months ahead of the revision from California and lost all seniority
on bidding. She was able to get a route right away, then came the revision, and she lost it all! Frito knew they were going to be doing this revision, and let her transfer knowing what was going to happen to her! They suck, at employee relations!!! She will be years trying to get a route now!!!

I can understand some people people thinking its a good job just because it does pay the bills. Deep down inside you got to know its not right what they do. My cousin lasted a year and he is a good hard worker. He couldn't take it,he had enough when they cut his pay and added hours to his day. Its just not right. If the just paid OT at time and half the job would be worth it to some degree. I'm actually quite surprised at what they get away with.

I would wait until I moved. Some companies get upset when they go to all the trouble to train you, and you up and move on. But, I understand anybody wanting to leave up North, for the South.
I am not being ugly with that statement, its just the South hasn't been hit as bad with the recession. I live in Dallas, and I swear we have not felt the recession at all so far. Were waiting, but so far nothing.

Wow thanks soo much for the words of encouragement I feel much better now...lol. The hours are not long 50 to 55 there feel more like 40 they go by really fast and u are never looking at the clock wondering how much longer till my shift ends. I hate this waiting to see what happens thing they say we can ask questions but when we do they have no answers. I do not want to be a merchandiser but i kinda think aside of them not having anything open for me altogether thats what I will be stuck with...it just plain out pure and simply sucks! I am sorry I like my job and think so far its a really good company to work for...lol I seem the minority with that opinion right now..hopefully I wont be frito bashing by the end of the month...thinking happy thoughts with fingers crossed...

Let me tell u about the job I left before frito if that helps u to understand why I feel frito is a pretty darn awesome company to work for..I worked my way up at a TA Travel centers Of America for 17 yrs. Started out as a part time motel housekeeper, ended up as a full time store assistant manager. I watched managers quit right and left because they were "salaried" no overtime pay whatsoever. I refused to become a manager but pretty much ran the place alone for alomst a year most of the time without a day off. The most thankless job around. Finally they hired another manager, I got some needed time off. Well then after slaving for this company 17 yrs they decide to do job cuts..the district manager lost his job and took the managers job..the manager then too the assistant managers job (mine) word was handed down at all TA's they are a nation wide chain that all assistant managers then had to be "let go" they didnt want them around after all that freaking work after 17 years thats how they did not just me but all the assistant managers...it took me 3 months to finally get through the hiring process with frito..I love the job...the people including the managers treat you as employees should be treated..its the best job I ever had..now I could be posting with a totally different opinion by the end of the month but lets hope not..lol.

I honestly hope you get to keep your route. But, I am telling you what happened to us here. I was just like you, loved my job, even tho I hated all the hours. I was told up into the very day of bidding that I would be able to re-bid on my route, and win the bid! What they didn't say was they were condencing all these routes, and there was not going to be as many routes to bid on.
I'm telling you the DSL's lied all the way up to bidding! This board is about whats really going on at Frito, not fairytales!
I went into the bid process with blinders on because what the lying DSL's told us. When it was over, I was past po'd, I was in complete shock! I was starting all over again! Look at my friend
she's 18 years in, and is a merchandizer! Its disgusting!

Thats the part I am afraid of. There not being any available anything. They say that wont happen but if you are cutting out routes how can it not happen? It's not like I was born yesterday...lol. The part that gets me is it doesnt matter how hard u work, its according to seniority..that sucks. And that I have to wait for another three weeks yet still work the route i have a feeling I will lose as if it's all gonna be ok. I asked if there's going to be enough routes for everyone and all I got is an I don't know...I have bills I cant go by an I dont know...lol. I guess I would even right now be happy with a merchandiser job..its a job..I know this is where the truth is which is why I came in here I need answers and I cant get any...lol..I appreciate the honesty ven if it's not what I want to hear..its more than I knew before icame in this area...lol.

Thats what they told me, and I believed it! I swear it was like getting in the gut by a horse, after the bidding! I told my DSL to his face he was a liar! He said he didn't lie, he thought there was going to be enough routes to go around! Then the moron told me
'don't worry, you'll be able to get another route in no time at all'. I went home crying, and went full speed ahead, finding another job! I could be sitting there for years, waiting for the next route to open up. They lied all the way thru the process, and in the end they were still lying because people saw the sign.
No future ahead!

I can't answer that, I don't think so. I believe all the swings
were turned into merchandizers. I don't think they could afford
to let anyone go. People that were downsized started getting other jobs.

No I didn't have enough time in for bulk, I ended up on a crappy mega truck, as a swing!!! Sucked!! I had to do dollar stores, neighborhood walmarts, Cvs's, 7-11's, getto C stores, Tom Thumbs,
gas stations.IT SUCKED!! I started the bids as a LEAD BULK, with my own route to that, in one day! Its a big demotion without a write-up! It sucked! At that point, I lost all respect for Frito Lay!

Yeah understandable,,,I thought i would keep this route and job forever unless I got fired cause I knew I wasn't quitting..maybe i have hope in all the ones that have been there for years getting fed up and quitting and I will move up the food chain...lol. I can handle a bit of a pay cut since I am a female I dont have quite the responsibility as say my husband would under similar circumstances...and since I only have under two years in i'm not going to be downsized as much as some of the others..I just can't believe a few days ago I was saying I would quit before I took the merchandiser position now I am hoping just for something...anything...lol. No, they provide all the trucks, its just like Frito except its uniforms. And you only work 4 days a week. I'm off every sat-sun
and mon, and all holidays! I work from 6am to 4 or 5pm, untill I get done. They don't have route revisions! I jknow exactly how you feel right now, been there, done that. I felt the same way you do, I was going to retire from frito, never been wrote up, and WHAMM!
But, I cannot work for a company that I can never trust. We all know corps are going to lie to you, but Frito takes it to a whole
different level! If I had been a little bit more prepared for what was going to happen, it 'might' of helped, at least warned me, something! I learned Frito cares about Frito, not anybody else!

Kooper in Missouri said: The pay in STL is comparable to other sales/delivery jobs in the area. The interview process is long bc they have so many candidates applying. The positives are that FL is a stable company that doesn't have layoffs and a solid benefit package for you and your family. On the flip side you have a pretty dependable schedule unless you want to work more days and get paid extra for them.

when a zone goes to super bulk is the large format side the only routes that gets reenginered or does the whole zone? Does the zone lose half of the large format routes when it goes to super bulk?

Yeah whats weird is no one is really talking about it..I seem to be the only one who's stressing...if anyone else is they don't seem to be showing it..I thought I was just stressing cause I know I am so low on the totem pole..everyone else just has the wait and see attitude..I can't wait that long...lol. I know I don't have a choice but I do not feel safe..I know I am gonna get raked over the coals and have three weeks until it happens..next Monday we're supposed to get a list of the routes that are going up for bidding..I have heard many different things on this from..the route has to change 50% to be up for bidding and no one will want my job...well if others routes are gone of course they will want mine...lol. Frito Lay has been so much more than fair to me for two years its just hard to comprehend all this...I know its not the doing of any of the people I work for, it comes from higher up than just one DC. Anyway supposedly we get the list next Monday to look over for a week..bidding is on the 29th but according to my calendar thats two weeks to look over the routes...lol. Then supposedly we're not going official until may..so I really don't know..and I wish I could say I don't care...but I would be lying...lol. I am on vacation the day they do the bidding but damn straight I will come off vacation to be there...lol.

They tell us there will still be the smaller format routes..product does not get delivered by tractor trailer...but delivered by "my" truck...lol the 24 ft bulk trucks. Instead of two or three stores to deliver to there will be 5 or 6 the lead or co lead drops off and checks in then the merchandiser does all the work...lol

Yep, that is how it works. The swing is really going
to be the one doing the work. They will be working

will do two, or three stores, and their off to. The

You know most back doors are closed on wed anyway. The only one that will be working to death is the swing. The merch has it made!
They are not going to kill themselves for 10-12 a hour. The weekends are the workdays.

You can't even judge that, it differs by the area, and whats
going on. Holidays, Picnics, Super Bowl. My bulk could run
$30.000-$40.000 easy on a holiday week.

hahah in columbus they changed the rules of bidding all together... now all days off are picked in order of senority... so we have leads with wed.. and thurs .. so that would mean that swing would have sun.mon. or fri. sat. and they also made it so the colead could take a colead part.. even if the lead spot was available and pick the good days.. off.. i just dropped from my super bulk route.. i had 2 19,000 dollar weeks and only avged out around 26g week with it... so my take home pay was 450. take home.. thats crap for frito... it was a good company is a good company.. but only if ur ... in a safe spot such as traditional bulk..5-2 or any sm. format type routes...
superbulk:2% commission.
Traditional:3%
merchandiser 2-3 stores aday.. 15.50 an hour.. merchandisers are lucky as all get out.
Rsr extra day:100 for extra day.
Rsa:145 750 gross a week.
super bulk stinks.... even though i only may work 2 of my 5 stores i am still responsible for managing the co lead and merch.. and makign sure they are all doing there job on top of writing orders.. checking them in. selling displays.. remember 5 diff stores bull crap.. and trying to care all at once..... avoid super bulk.

I wish we could avoid superbulk and keep the conventional bulk routes..but its a done deal as far as I know..I don;t care about working harder, I don't care which days off I get...lol I want to keep my swing position...lol. I'm not gonna stress anymore about it I have three more weeks and it's not worth killing myself over...what I get I get...I have to take it..jobs here are scarce..I will have to take what i wind up with and like it and wait patiently till maybe some of them quit...by the sounds of it all some hopefully will ..haha

But the thing I don't get is why they are posting to hire merchandisers when there may not be enough routes for everyone they have? Why look for new people already until they have places for everyone else? Oh well who knows...the plot thickens..........
