What do you think -- is this company going to survive and thrive? Are they looking to expand their staff, or do you think layoffs are inevitable?

How does Fastenal stack up against the competition?

Fastenal is a pretty decent company, but salaries are weak where the rubber meets the road. The only people who make any decent money are GM's and above. This causes a frequent turnover in the store support, inside sales, or part-time personnel. The company just did away with the Asst Manager positions in the stores and now uses Outside Sales as the new title. The difference is that commissions are now only based on the O.S. person's assigned accounts and not the entire store. Those commissions are always low in comparison. The G.M. earns commissions on everything the store sells, thus the salary disparity.

soon to be ex-employee in Englewood, Colorado

They are getting rid of the Ass. Managers position here too. Just another way that Fastenal spent more time trying to figure out a way to pay their employees less, than they did attempting to get our DC's to actually stock product.
The company is going to survive because of the business model that they have in place. Their operating margins and cash flow are too great to die quickly.
