I received a called from Fluor about 3 weeks ago a phone interview was told my resume stood out and the manager of the dept. was impressed. I was told that I would be getting a call back the next week it's been 3 weeks now. On the Fluor status it still has "Under Review" does anyone have any idea what's going on? The position I applied for was Document Data Tech.

Donald you just need to get your passport first. The LogCap contracter that hires you will take care of anything else. You can expediate your passport yourself straight thru the State Department. Just have to pay the expediate fees. If you use one of those passport services, then you'll pay even more! Also, see if one of your local goverment officials, such as Congressman or State Representative. I used my congressman office, got it in 5 days, no joke. I paid for the Fedex both ways, but it was worth the money.

Make sure that you have a certified copy of your birth certificate on hand. You'll need it more than you think.

One other thing you can work on while waiting on your passport will be a SF85P. Might seem like you are putting the cart before the horse, but the more prep that you do the better off you'll be.

Best of luck to you!

I believe Fluor is now making everyone do a SF86, not 100% sure but the people who arrived in Greenville last Saturday all had to redo and they had them do the 86, they are saying with all the trouble their having getting us out on the 85's is taking to long and this way if there is something wrong they are told exacly what it is where on the 85's their just told there is a problem but not what it is. Good luck all.

Hummmmmmm! isn't that interesting!
A SF-86 (Questionnaire for National Security Positions), version July 2008 is used by the security clearance applicant. SF-86 will take longer to process than the SF-85. Regardless, completing the documents honestly and accruately should move things along faster.

When granted a SF86 security clearance, the applicant is allowed to view (if needed) classified information and or work/visit/ etc., classified areas, buildings, facilities, etc., up to the level granted (if needed).
Highly doubtful that a food service worker will be viewing classified information and working in classified areas.

Do keep us all in the loop if you learn anything else about this.

You are correct Nashville, the 86 will take longer to process and since it will take longer. IF that is the reason to use the sf86 to speed up the process then why hire so many FNs from the balkans they do not have to fill out the 85 or 86 so why would US citizens have to have a clearance? just does not make sense to me.

The reason for submitting an SF86 is that if there is a problem with the fingerprints you are told immediately and you are told what the problem is whereas with an SF85P if there is a problem with your fingerprints they start doing a background check, which can take weeks, before you are notified that there is a problem. So by going with the SF86 if there is a problem you know right away and then you can submit the SF85 being sure that that the specific problems are addressed. Also with an SF86 yif all is well you are usually granted an interim Secret clearance within a week as long as your fingerprints are good whereas with the SF85 it can take as long as 13 weeks the difference being that with a SF86 the background check can take up to 8 months so interim is granted before the background is complete. I don't know if this makes any sense but it is the ain reason they are doing this not because they want everyone to have a secret clearance but to speed up the process of the SF85P as people are not putting everything down and it is taking so long to get back the info and to re-file.
As for hiring FN's, OCN,s and all the other N's these people are running a business where low bid wins and the spot where you save the most is on labor so for all those that aren't happy about the way it is done put your money on the table start a business, hang your ass out and start bidding.

Its a crapshoot really. In my department its fine, but thats also because the manager was fired (he fit that description on logcap4jobs). I've also heard how other departments on my base definetly have the cold and brutal in full force.

Hey bro! I have not worked over there yet! However With the conditions and just
my military experience I believe Every bit is true!

Take this for instance!

Mix many different people from the world in a desert that don't see eye to eye within themselves or amongst others. Throw in real bad living conditions with no commodities of home, dirt, funk, filth, the drive for greed and backstabbing motives as crabs in a barrel! With great pay and the potential for more money with promotions! All just for the money! Oh let me add ex cons from all walks of life!

Hmmm, I just said what Bruce did! I imagined it already in my head! My
military experience and
life experimce tells menthey are not B.S. us. It for the faint of heart. As u know life has a cost with any and everything we do!

I bet it's just short of prison life! I am sure
I may be off a little here or there!

I have been on this site for a bit but not as long as some of the vets here! I can tell you one thing! Everyone I have spoke with and listned to has told me no
lies and willing to help if o e is willing to help themselves!

He'll these folks all ought get LOGCAP IV tat's and start a brotherhood cause it ain't for sisees! Oh yea there are females there to!

Just my take and I ant been there yet! Just heard fr these folks and first hand from
a close friend!

They can't get a CAC Card without the SF85, so just hire them overseas and go on with life. With the SF86 Fluor has to pay for the process so just another way to charge the government for a process that is not necessary. So if everyone has a secret clearance then they also have to pay them from the US and plus unemployment as well.

You do not need a visa in Afghanistan, and US passport holders don't have to have one in Dubai (unless your job is there). If you go to Iraq with KBR you have to have a MOI (ministry of interior) letter that they will get for you. This is a relativly new requirment for Iraq.

I just got off the phone with security, literally 2 minutes ago, and was told they're doing the sf85, not the 86. There are 3 different hotels they put you up in and all you have to do is provide the means to feed yourself. Shuttles and hotel costs are covered.

Hey all Newbies as myself! Kat is right about the congressman! They will monitor the passport process for you to be sure there are no hickups! U need to fill out an authorization for for them to represent you! After that the call and represent you! It's cheaper than those Internet passports! Pluss all the Internet Passports go through the state departmnent anyhow, well most! So just pay the expedition fee via the government site, then call your congressman office that represents your district. It should come in about 5 days!

Thx Kat!

I talked to a guy in Greenville going through the process and he told me the NCCER test are related to the trade you're in. They give you some books and say this many ?'s out of this section and so forth. You have a week to study and then you take it. If you fail you get to retake it in 2 days, after that I'm not too sure.

You fly out of Dallas/Ft Worth. I think Hubby went to Dubai and then on to Afgh this last time. Some people have had some payroll issues - but my husband has never missed 1 check. I think most of that has been worked out now. Hubby went from Foreman w/ KBR to Super and now to O&M Mgr w/Dyn - so opportunities for advancement are there for those that want it and apply themselves. Good luck to you....

Go Dyncorp who is about to lose there contract in Afghanistan. KBR i believe is going to get an extenstion in Iraq for the BLS part. No chaos of transition to another contractor in Iraq.

LOL good ole Melinda still pumping DynCorp sunshine straight up everyones wazoo. I experienced their transition in Kuwait, was no where near what the chaos is/was in Afgan. Other than your husbands wonderful experiences I have yet to hear any other positive ones. Let me ask something. If everyone that was in the position of authority at KBR as people say were bad lousy lame etc and they were transitioned/rehired by said new companies, do you honesty think their management skills improved?

But, you can be granted an interim clearance while the powers that be are working on a final. FederalSoup.com has a forum about security clearances, and several former investigators contribute. Most important that you fill either SF out completely and honestly. Should make the invertigators job a little easier and therefore move a bit faster.

Can appreciate that! We went right at 6 months before his first R & R. But he did get to come home for Christmas and that was really great. Can't say that Jimmy loves his job, but the money is great, and he likes that part pretty well. We talk almost every day and alot of times, there is just nothing to talk about except his crazy dog or the wildlife that comes thru my front yard. I'll be proud to see him next week. Goes without saying, after having him under foot for 2 weeks, I'll probably be glad to put him back on that plane! LOL!!!!!

Hi Lesa,

Koko here. My husband left KBR to go with Fluor last July, so we had 2 RRs. Just as Kathy mentioned, really no issues with KBR, they just offered hubby better pay. And he figured if he was going to do this, he might as well get the most for his time away from his family and life here. We dealt with the long stretch without RR ourselves. He was pushing six mths when he went with Fluor–and they-- KBR were talking seven, then eight. Feb was a yr for us counting his time with KBR and Fluor–and I guess I got to see him about 4 wks for the yr. But Rrs have been pretty regular–no issues in fact at all since he has been with Fluor. We just had our first out of country RR–met in mexico last mth. He’ll be stateside again come June for his 3rd RR, and then in Aug it will be his EOC. Thus far he is planning to do another yr. But we've gotten to the mental stage where he really just takes it 3 mths–less than even with Rrs- at a time. Makes it seem as the time goes faster.

Its so dang hard when they leave regardless–and I know it cuts both ways. I know it takes hubby a couple of weeks to readjust after he goes back over there. So I try to be strong for his sake. Then again maybe he is just playing me so I will be strong. Hmmm . . .

Frankly there are days with me stuck here with the kids that I think he’s the one that’s got it easy–war zone or not. LOL

I am pretty sure Beth husband’s is now with Fluor and there one or two others that I know that are about but they namely lurk on the forums.

Kathy, I am now looking at houses. I may look at condos later. But I decided I want a house again. =)
