With KBR,(unskilled labor),regular laborers & food service is $2000.00 plus 75% uplift Skilled labor: Skilled Labor (carpenters, HVAC) with KBR is 2583.00 plus 75% uplift. Maybe that will help you some. Also, try looking at the other indeed Forums like KBR Salaries, Bonuses and Benefits. You might have to do some digging, but I am pretty sure that you'll more info on the salaries.

Good Luck!

Koko Wilson in Altamonte Springs, Florida said: Hi Lesa,

Koko here. My husband left KBR to go with Fluor last July, so we had 2 RRs. Just as Kathy mentioned, really no issues with KBR, they just offered hubby better pay. And he figured if he was going to do this, he might as well get the most for his time away from his family and life here. We dealt with the long stretch without RR ourselves. He was pushing six mths when he went with Fluor–and they-- KBR were talking seven, then eight. Feb was a yr for us counting his time with KBR and Fluor–and I guess I got to see him about 4 wks for the yr. But Rrs have been pretty regular–no issues in fact at all since he has been with Fluor. We just had our first out of country RR–met in mexico last mth. He’ll be stateside again come June for his 3rd RR, and then in Aug it will be his EOC. Thus far he is planning to do another yr. But we've gotten to the mental stage where he really just takes it 3 mths–less than even with Rrs- at a time. Makes it seem as the time goes faster.

Its so dang hard when they leave regardless–and I know it cuts both ways. I know it takes hubby a couple of weeks to readjust after he goes back over there. So I try to be strong for his sake. Then again maybe he is just playing me so I will be strong. Hmmm . . .

Frankly there are days with me stuck here with the kids that I think he’s the one that’s got it easy–war zone or not. LOL

I am pretty sure Beth husband’s is now with Fluor and there one or two others that I know that are about but they namely lurk on the forums.

Kathy, I am now looking at houses. I may look at condos later. But I decided I want a house again. =)

You go girl! I can appreciate what you say! I wanted a forever home, and that's what I got!

Take Care!

It goes without saying that the living conditions are not great...We are, afterall, at war. Can anyone give any insight into just how dangerous it is over there? I can handle being apart from him for months at a time if I know that he will be coming home to me in the end. Also, I was hoping someone could share some information regarding ways to stay in touch (phone calls, email, etc). Thank you!

Donna,

We are out of harms way for the most part. We do not go outside the base unless we are traveling to a new one, then we are in armored verhicles with armored military escort. The good thing is that he is going to work for Flour, that means he will be in the North, which has alot less fighting than the South. By no means am I saying that he is 100% safe, we are working in a war zone.

As for communication. My advise would be to load skype on his laptop. The internet is available at most sites, it isn't cheap, but it's here. You can make free calls to anyone else that has skype. You can also call any phone number in the states for 2.1 cents a min. My wife and I talk once a day, every day. If the internet connection is good, we share video.

Most of Flour's skilled trades have around a $3000.00 base. With uplift thats around $2k per week.

i know what you mean, i've been doing all kinds of handyman type work and anything else i can find to get by. some of the local builders tell me they are still having a hard time getting financing to start new projects so until that issue is resolved, things may take time some time to ramp back up.
i didnt do anything special to my resume other than highlight my carpentry skills/management skills. i have two positions 'under review' since jan. of this year. not sure if that means i'm any closer than i was at 'pending review' but i just plan on hanging in until til something breaks in my favor...which i hope is sooner than later!

Hey, I found this a few pages back..........thanks to KoKo

""Ok, I have heard it can be as high as 4200.00 a RR==posted on other forums here in indeed. I think hubby is a little less than though. So to get annual RR pay just times your RR pay by 4 a yr--it a good chunk of change, regardless.

Also one factor to consider with RR pay. It can flex around renewal of contract time owing to jet-fuel expenses which will be reflected in the price of your plane tickets. So if you recall over the moon fuel prices summer before last--well RR pay was higher then.

And to be clear you do not get your RR pay until after you get back from RR. So your first RR is going to be out of your own pocket so to speak. When you get back overseas--it take about 2 checks--4 weeks as I recall-for you to see it reflected on your check.""

KoKo and I talked about this a couple of days ago, and it's going to be a little longer to get your R & R
pay, at first it was 30 days, but now it going to be about 45 days.

Good Luck to you!

Here is a link to comments regarding FLUOR's offer to KBR employees transitioning In Country. And it's pretty accurate IMHO.

mssparky.com/2009/10/fluors-locap-iv-offer-for-kbr-employees-in-afghanistan

if you google MS Sparky, you'll find a source that is a melting pot of comments. Good, Bad and indifferent!
And it is also a central location for current news about what's going on over there.

Good Luck!

You are correct Koko. Fluor is currently $3600 and ITT $4200 per R&R. ITT pays you as soon as you become eligible, Fluor pays you upon return. What we have been told is that both companies travel department reviews these numbers quarterly and they may change depending on ticket prices, meals ect. Fluor's travel used to be $4200 during the second quarter of last year, but was changed.
