Hi Guys, I accepted a job with KBR, the salary is ok but they can only offer a 6 month contract which is not great for me, this was not explained during the recruitment. I am desperate to start with Fluor as i know the salary is better and i presume the contracts are longer ? I really need to make as much money as i can to get out of our home and get a better one and fast. Can anyone help me or give advice on how to stick out to Fluor and have a good shot of getting hired, i have over 11yrs Plumbing experience with all my Gas certs and Supervisor experience. Any help will be greatly appreciated. |

I wish I knew the secret, but from what I have seen and read it looks like the Europeans have all kinds of trouble. You might try Dyn Corp and see if they are easier to crack, or it might be better to take the contract with KBR- that gives you 6 months to line up a job with another contractor and now you have more war zone contracting experience to add.. When I was over before there was some outfit I think they where out of GB doing some work.. they where called Wolf Pack or something.. they did outside the wire construction and gen work. I don't know if they are still in country subbing on LG IV or if they went away but if they are still active might be easier to get into. |

Any leads on recruiter info with FLOUR ? Thanks all... Im on the admin, business, supply, logistics side etc. KBR has MCT contracts on LG IV, maybe you can transfer to Afghanistan if that's where your experience lies. Otherwise- gotta start fresh and apply online.. I got called kind of quickly after applying a few others too- if you already got on with KBR you should have the resume for it. It's about 4 months from applying to flying... unless you hire with Fluor before you leave KBR and keep your CAC. BUT- the KBR sponsored CAC is probably only good until the end of their contract. |

Flour Corp would not have submitted our clearance through PSI-CoE if they were waiting funds. Believe me. Flour Corp will be in Afghany long after the troops leave doing mining work. |

But I do want to let you know about your 6 month "contract." These contracts over here, doesn't mater the company, are worth about as much as the paper they are written on. They basically say that the company can send you home at any time, for any reason. It may say 6 months or a year, but the truth is it is as long they can use you. After that, you are on the first thing smokin outa there. |

You may also want to keep an eye on Supreme, they are a UK company doing a lot of the same type of work as Fluor and DynCorp. From what I hear, they treat their people well, but it's tough for Americans to get on with them. |

When you look on the FLUOR site there are 2 sections of jobs and both have positions overseas. The bulk of the jobs are in one department- perhaps the other division handles some other department contracts they may be involved in, or the hiring was for a construction project. Not sure what is going on with Afghan, but KBR was doing that same thing when the proposals where being conducted for the "enduring" bases. These bases where fitted with masses of housing, new PX and MWR facilities and DFACS... more than what a normal floating construction crew could handle because it was a rapid process. Somebody else.. well 1 other person posted similar... but Blacksnake was going through about the same with ITT as a sub for fluor. I'd be asking my recruiter the question- WHAT do I have to do to get req'd with a normal logcap position. Shouldn't be hard if you're already in the mix and 85'd. |

I referred a friend of mine to Fluor for a plumbers job. He was told by some one that his "colorful past" would get him DQd by Fluor even if he passed the OPM check, regardless of how long ago it was. Can anyone validate that? |

Not exactly true. I hoped it would have been a common procedure, but I don't think the Recruiters are all working together. For example, I applied to a Req thinking they were all assigned to the same recruiter regardless of the location,I received an offer for Kuwait, but really wanted to go to Iraq or Afghanistan. I asked the recruiter if it was possible to switch to the exact position that was open for Afghanistan or Iraq and he stated that he had no idea there were positions opened in Afghanistan and basically couldn't help me. Has anyone had this issue? |

You most certainly can call the OPM office and request information as to the status of your investigation. They will ask that you write out some basic info, name, DOB, SSN...etc. Then you hand sign it, fax it to their office and they will then give you any info about your case you feel you need to have. |

You call the freedom of information act office. If you have sent in the proper paperwork then you push option 7000 and then option 5. They will tell you if your investigation is open or closed.. your status. They will give you the dates it entered each status. For instance- mine closed on July 15th. I found this out by calling, and I know I am not the only one here that knows this, it's no deep dark secret. Since you apparently don't want to do the work, I'll do it for you. Apologies are accepted between 9 and 5 cdt
