Not sure what level NCCER I took although I'm now hearing as of two weeks ago they no longer test through NCCER. Fluor first emailed me on or around November 20th 2009 while I was in Iraq with KBR. I demobed the next day and I was in Greenville on December 20th '09. I landed in Afghanistan on Jan. 27th 2010. |

Hi, my husband is in Iraq, I know there has been a lot of trouble there today and I'm concerned, he is a plumber on the main base and I have not heard from him! Do they shut off communication and if so for how long. He has not been out there long, so kinda new to this. |

Not a chiefs fan by any stretch... don't like to see them win because I have to hear about it all week long, but i think I'd side with KC over Buffalo... even if we played 3rd string all game long... that being said.. If and when there is an attack there is usually a period of commo blackout while any families are informed in an attempt to slow enemy intelligence and ensure families are notified before news reports.. If and when- that doesn't mean anything, in Iraq as fall and winter start to come in there is frequent dust storms that engulf the country.. they ground flights, screw up your breathing, and most importantly wreak commo havoc on the normal communications available to soldiers/civilians on the ground for non-official purposes. No reason to sweat or worry. Besides- the attacks you read about on yahoo where in civilian areas, not on the FOBS we would be working on. |

Hey HVAC.. Good morning.. have you weighed your bag? if so what does it weigh.. I've decided to go with two duffel bags and split all my stuff between the two bags. I remember a post by Duke informing us that he knew two people who's bags were lost enroute. I thought this would be a total bummer.. My bags weigh about 22lbs each and carried on the shoulder, seem very light. |

Usually they would report their supervisor making off with lots of parts, taking money to use certain vendors or doing substandard work to keep their hours down, making themselves look better. Meanwhile the soldier is getting crappy living quarters or screwed one way or another. Although this says "Woodbridge, VA", I'm in Federal Way. So, yes, if you know of some crap going on, I'd love to hear about it. Most of you when you go over, as part of your briefing, you'll hear from one of my counteparts from the International Contract Corruption Task Force, we're at a base near you. |

For the SF85P they pulled Trans-union. In the end, the credit may or may not get you disqualified... but you want to be up front and not get caught suprised.. there is a letter floating around from someone who was denied and it was all related to things they failed to disclose and the pattern of failed disclosure was cited in the reasons.. you can probably find it on google. Ok so this morning my husband talked to his recruiter again they are having him to an 85 through equip for a CAC?? again they made this sound like a quick process and said credit wasnt a factor but criminal history, employment, prior residences and references were... also he was given his offer and they e-mailed a copy too... What is a CAC and is this what takes months?? |

What is a CAC and is this what takes months?? CAC is a civilian access card. It's not a short process- Your CAC processes through OPM and adjudicates at Rock Island Armory where the 86 passes through a program called DISCO. It takes roughly 10 days after you clear medical and dental to get your EQIP invite. You fill in your info on the printed sheets, the industrial security rep gives you the OK.. you fill it out on the EQIP they review it and give you any changes or a go.. You submit, follow instructions and fax/upload your signature sheets. Another 10 days passes give or take and you get a NO further action email if everything is received.. Then the wait. It took me 8.5 weeks from no further action to favorable adjudication. Then you sit and wait lol. Be patient- this board is really good for helping ease anxieties. Good luck to you... oh ya- credit is much more of an issue on the 86 than the 85p.. but there is no interim for the 85p unfortunately. |

I am not interested in playing the role of a whistle blower, snitch, or anything else that could potentially affect or otherwise compromise the safety and/or job security of myself, or any other potential or current contractors from any company. Best of luck to you, but there is more than enough corruption in local organizations to keep the government busy. |

I was going to carry on my back, but I don't want to leave behind my razor I got on fathers day. Also remember- smaller bags are more likely to get swiped.. larger bags are more likely to get tossed in Dubai... You'll open your bag after Dubai find it disheveled with an inspection ticket on your clothes lol. They normally cut TSA locks regardless.. How's the license renewal going? Oh- lights.. I carry a small mag too- but I bought an energizer headband LED for 10 bucks at lowes.. it has red and normal LEDs..

Yipes now im really confused :S in the e-mail we recieve there is talk about a temporary CAC card ... that can be granted quickly?? I suppose we'll find out either way.. but I wish I knew for personal sanity lol... So perhaps there is a speedy 85 ... am not sure.. also it states that the NCCER? is not longer required for electricians at this time.. |

Wow, all. We just received some sombering news today after training about the future of the contract/ We were told they are going to start downsizing the reduction of expatriates (U.S.) and some of us might be able to finish out our one year contracts..kind of hit hard to a lot of us knowing they are outsourcing to FNs...I thought I had a good year on the contract... |

It's the fed background check that takes the most time... If it puts it into perspective my official offer and email was May 6th and I am just now flying next week. The fastest legit times I have seen where around 7.5 weeks from the no further action email. By legit I mean the one person claiming it took 2 weeks couldn't have with an 85p... You figure that they take several days to start, your credit will be pulled after the no further action and your contacts and employers have to get their notices and send them back. It also takes time to process in Rock Island.. they are very busy right now and there is no priority listing or expedited processing.. Some companies will move you without your CAC card and you'll have a sponsor basically on base from what I've read. It does get you over faster, but your limited with your access. Dyn Corp does it that way. |

There is still expat contractors in Iraq and the troop drawdown started right after Obama got elected.. It's not instant and really with the amount of turnover it would involve less hiring- not sending people home right away. They HAVE to tell you it's an open ended contract and you can be cut at anytime. I heard the same thing from KBR in 2005... No offense- but most on here have learned to just ignore posts like this.. if I get sent home early so be it.. I'll fly into canada get my passport stamped and catch a ferry into Washinton.... |

Yes.. typical red tape.. but it's kinda ok with me.. because it seems by the time I get there, it should be around the first week of October.. and the temps should be dropping. Having lived in CO for 19 years now, I Like cold. I've worked outside when it was 20 below.. as long as you have the right clothes and gear.. but when it's hot, there is nothing you can do... This will give me a chance to work myself into the climate. |

I would gladly post the info on here that's fine.. I suppose if a person had one address and one employer for the past 10 years it would go fast too... idk what your situation is, but no sense getting peoples hopes up.. 9 of 10 people on here can tell you that's not the norm for processing as we all had to wait 2-3 months.
