I got my offer 1/7 and flew into GV 4/17. I have been here since. My group was the 2nd to last to be brought here prior to CAC approval. Now, you have to eligible before you fly in. Hang in there as the process is daunting. |

It really doesn't take long at all to get a CAC card, they are making it much more difficult than it actually is. The guys that are coming over with most of the other contractors are still getting theirs in about a week, you can get an interim secret clearance in about 3 weeks and a CAC card isn't anywhere close to that. |

It does take a long time for a cac when you use an sf85,which is a public trust clearance, because the sf85 has no interim unlike sf86 which is a secret and does have an interim. My dad got an offer from berger for a plumber at the deid and was in country within 10 days, but that is because they are using the sf86.Now he has an offer from a diff. co. but can't take it because he is still waiting for his sf86 to clear. |

TK I got my last CAC in 5 days, that's with filling out the SF85. There is also couple of hundred or more going through every week in Houston for KBR, and they are getting theirs in less than a week to. What I said was there is a couple companies out there making it seem like it is more difficult than it really is. If the form is filled out properly, and properly submitted, the turn around is not anywhere near the month or longer that everyone is talking about. I am not sure whether it is a staffing problem or just plain lack of experience with some of these companies. |

I just went through this process this month! not years ago. It will take 3-4 weeks at the earliest.. it took 4 weeks for me.. |

I have been through huston processing and know that kbr is issuing interim cac because they use the sf86.Bman is 100% correct. It takes 4to6 weeks once the gov gets the app. for sf85 and up to 3 months for sf86.But the gov allows an interim for the sf86 |

I may be wrong but i am pretty sure because i talked to a kbr recruiter in april ,from what she said kbr has not even started to hire anyone yet under logcap 4 contract(although they won some work--none yet for the trades guys,,they are still under lc3 if they are getting hired) which has completely different rules and regs regarding sf85p, kbr is still hiring under logcap 3 where u.s. citizens can obtain a cac within a week, its nothing compared to the guidelines fluor has to follow for the new logcap 4 hiring process.Kbr is only taking the sf85p and putting it in your file to access it or process it at a later date if needed if and when you transition from lc3-lc4 in iraq. I may be wrong but thats the info i got, I'm just putting it out there for you guys.I'm still waitng for my final copy of my sf85p from fluor so i can sign it and send it in, then i'm guessing at least 2 months wait or more. |

I think there is a LOT of confusion, misunderstandings, and "non-truths" going around about the CAC card. Apparently, you know must have a background check, and fingerprints ran in order to get one. The exceptions are if you have had a Secret or Top Secret clearance within a certain time period, or IF your SF85 NOT 86 was processed prior to a certain date. If not, there is a LENGTHY delay in processing. They are expecting to be "caught up" by the end of July. As for an "Interim" CAC card, I have NEVER heard of one. Due to "classifications", I can not reveal any more information. |

And yes jobs outside the wire typically pay more and should. Most Fluor trades jobs pay about the same but other companies that actually work outside the wire pay a lot more....even more than a DPM makes. I just left Iraq working on the wireless network for VZB and it required a lot of red zone work and the pay was more than any Fluor DPM makes. The jobs and pay are there but you have to look at companies other than Fluor. Nothing wrong with Fluor if that's what you want to do but there is bigger money to be made outside the wire but it obviously comes with bigger risk. |

If you think you are going to need it, pack it up and have someone send it to you when you get here. Fluor is going to provide you with a Kevlar vest, helmet, and a sleeping bag, that's it. The safety gear that you need for your job will be provided when you get to your site. My advise is to pack lite, you are going to have to drag this crap half way around the world, then when you finally get to your site ship the rest. It takes about 10-15 days for the mail to reach most places here. You will get an APO AE address so it only cost domestic shipping rates to get it here. |
