Update: 2nd week is pretty easy. Class on Monday and flight appts made. CAC's and flight dates are given on Tuesday. SOME will leave on Wednesday, some Friday and the rest Sunday IF there are no issues. So, some people will be here for 10 days while others will be here for 14. For those who don't leave on the first flight, there will be no classes so you can relax until your flight date. I hope this info has been helpful |

Go with the Under armor cold weather compression they are just like spandex except with insulation ...they don't itch and helps with the sweating.....i'm from Boston and work outside a lot so that i found to be a God send. |

I had to leave due to my wifes health and didnt do my year, she is feeling better and Im trying to reapply. Any feedback is great. Yes, I know of one person I worked with that didn't even make it 2 months before he demobed. He went home for 6 months and then I started seeing him around camp again, turns out Fluor hired him right back. He is not a manager or supervisor, he's just in skilled trades so I don't believe he got any special treatment. |

If you don't mind me asking, what's the average temp there right now? I plan to be heading there real soon. Just want to get an idea. Plus your blood needs to thicken up it's probably the first time you have dealt with that kind of cold on a regular basis. i know Texas gets cold but not like the Northeast cold, it's tough and takes a bit of getting used to. Think warm thoughts my man. And stay safe. |

When the sun disappears here the temp drops pretty quick like. This is my first winter here but the guys who were here last year say it should be like this pretty much through Feb. |

The best i can recommend is to keep your core warm as possible and the rest while take care of themselves, really really warm boots with thermals is a major plus and a good fleece hat to keep the in all your heat goes out through your head get a scarf and use that to keep your neck warm with the wind chill....it helps. Keep moving if possible. Good Luck Brother. |

I'm a carpenter waiting like so many others. I came home in December after four years in Iraq and completed my medical/dental for Fluor. I was a "complete go" as of early January. I still have not received a date to fly. Here is what I got from my recruiter.

Average processing time seems to be about four months. Not sure what that means. Best to ask the recruiter when they call back. Funny, it has always seemed the recruiters never know what's going on. Or just don't want to say. I thought Fluor would be different. Anyways...........still waiting. |

change in contract in Apo 3 months ago |
International Assignment Provisions As a government contractor, Fluor periodically reviews its compensation program and international assignment provisions to reassure our client that our pay and allowances reflect current market conditions and offer fair and equitable measures to attract and retain a well-qualified workforce. Fluor recently completed its review of the LOGCAP IV program. This review has led us to make several adjustments to compensation allowances for Afghanistan. The changes are outlined in this message. First and most important to you, I want you to know that there are no changes to your pay while working in Afghanistan. You will continue receiving 80% uplift on the first 40 hours per week and you will continue being paid for authorized overtime hours at your base salary rate (Overtime Straight Time). The changes I want to cover with you are outlined below: New Retention Allowance Program Currently, you receive a Sign-On Allowance at the beginning of your assignment and a Completion Allowance when you complete your assignment year. Beginning 11 February 2012, these two allowances will be changed to a Retention Allowance; this allowance will increase the longer you stay on the project. Under the new program, you will receive two separate Retention Allowances payments per year. These payments will be made every six months starting from your project assignment start date with Fluor. The allowance begins at $2750 for every employee with increases every six months until capped at five years. This change is more equitable and provides you an incentive to extend your service in six-month increments instead of one-year increments. This allowance focuses on the retention of talented employees, which ultimately results in cost savings for the government. This is a win-win measure for all concerned. |
|
change in contract #2 in Apo 3 months ago |
If you recently received a Sign-On Allowance for your current assignment, it will be treated as your Retention Allowance. Once you reach the next annual anniversary of your project assignment start date, you will start receiving regular Retention Allowances every six months. For example, if you have already served 15 months in Afghanistan and received your Sign-On Allowance for your second year, you will not receive a Retention Allowance at 18 months because your second year Sign-On Allowance counts as your Retention Allowance for this period. Instead, your next Retention Allowance will be paid at 24 months and then will continue every six months thereafter. Travel Days and Periodic Leave Starting on 11 February 2012, time charged for Travel Days will be paid at your base salary rate, which is the same as your Overtime Straight Time rate. Also, your Periodic Leave (commonly called ITOWP) will be adjusted to your base salary rate plus 45%. We recognize that you have earned your accrued Periodic Leave at a higher rate (base salary plus 80%). The best way for Fluor to ensure that your Periodic Leave hours are paid at the rate they were accrued is to cash out your current account and start over. Therefore, any hours accrued in your Periodic Leave (ITOWP) account through 10 February will be paid out in a lump-sum payment at the current rate (base salary plus 80%) in your 16 March paycheck. Home Leave/R&R Travel Allowance Your travel allowance for Home Leave/R&R has been adjusted to reflect current travel costs and you will no longer have to wait 45 days after returning from Home Leave/R&R to receive your travel allowance. Now, you will receive your travel allowance as soon as you return to Afghanistan. The travel allowance will include costs for a fully refundable airline ticket, ground transportation, and baggage fees. Starting 11 April 2012, it will also include costs for meals and incidental expenses. |
|
change in contract #3 in Apo 3 months ago |
The travel allowance will include costs for a fully refundable airline ticket, ground transportation, and baggage fees. Starting 11 April 2012, it will also include costs for meals and incidental expenses. Rather than paying you a separate per diem for Travel Days, money for meals and incidental expenses will now be included in the new travel allowance. This simplifies procedures for you and streamlines the payroll process. Since some employees may have already made travel arrangements based on the current travel allowance, the new travel allowance will not take effect until 11 April 2012. If you depart Afghanistan for Home Leave/R&R on or after 11 April 2012, you will receive the new travel allowance after you return to Afghanistan. The amount of the travel allowance will be reviewed semi-annually and will be changed, if necessary, to reflect current travel expenses. The travel allowance is published in the Project Home Leave Travel Allowance Matrix, which you can review with your AO/Site Manager, Human Resources, or Payroll/Finance. Payment During Fit-For-Duty Medical Examinations While taking your annual Fit-For-Duty medical examination in Dubai, you will charge your time as a normal work day (not to exceed eight hours) and will be paid at your base salary rate plus 45%. Additionally, you may continue claiming Per Diem on the day(s) of your examination. I understand that change is sometimes difficult. I ask for your patience as we work through the transition to the new provisions. We have established a Helpdesk that will be available 24/7 to answer any question that your AO/Site Manager can’t. Additionally, you may contact Human Resources or Payroll/Finance with specific questions related to how these changes will affect you. I know this is a lot to absorb. Each and every one of us is affected by these new provisions. We are one team with one mission and |

Plus, Fluor is no longer useing the Movenpic or the Avenue as inbound and outbound hotels. All inbound and outbound will now stay at the Star Metro, of KBR fame, four to a room. Do not eat the free buffet. Not breakfast, not lunch, not dinner. Do yourself a favor and go across the street to the mall or down three blocks to what used to be the Rennesance |
