Do you work at GE? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview?

Any advice for someone trying to get in?

Filled out an appliction in fall. No numbers to call to check on it. Appliance Park, here in Louisville, is hiring throughout year to replace retirees. Can anyone help?

I worked for GE Commercial Finance in Stamford. I found the job through a headhunter. Most of my direct contacts with the company HR prior to that did not get any responses. However, the headhunter was not very diligence and made mistakes on my profiles/salary requirements, etc. that led to disappointments after I joined the company. I left after 1.5 years because the environment was very slow, bureaucratic, difficult environment to move up the ladder unless you are considered the alpha white male. Salary was much below market and bonuses were, to me, a humilation.

It's a great company, but only to a few people.

I work for a competetor of GE's pigging division. They are so much better than us and there technology so far advanced it makes our little spec of a pigging company look very very bad!

I applied for my job at GE Healthcare through Careerbuilder.com and was contacted by an onsite recruiter in Wisconsin within about two weeks of submitting my resume. There's a lot of paperwork involved and an extensive background check. The series of interviews was strung out over several weeks isn't much different from other jobs I've applied for and landed.

Overall, I've been pretty pleased with my onboarding. Just consider that GE is a monsterously HUGE company and therefore has a lot of hoops to get through to get to the proper contact.

I am applying for jobs with GE in Dubai-- any tips for finding senior level specialist/Human Resources Manager positions? I have 18 years experience, and love my current job as a Sr. Human Resources Manager for policy development/labor relations. Need to relocate because of spouse's job.

How long does the background check process take at GE?? I had an interview (well 3 of them back to back to back for the same position) 2 weeks ago this past Friday....then the following Tuesday was asked to fill out the consents for background check. I was told I'd hear something by the end of last week and have not. I don't want to be a pain and keep emailing for an update, but I have a lot of things to put in order if I'm going to take the job. :)

Umm. Feeling a little ...what's the word I'm looking for....unhappy...depressed...concerned.....

Today I called LexisNexis to obtain a copy of my background report....they told me they have not yet received a request on my file!

2 weeks ago I was told it takes 7-14 days....last Tuesday I was told they would know something by the end of the week....and now today I find out they haven't even submitted for my report yet. What's going on ???

Mr. Tresca,

What do they look for in a background check? I was self employed for years, will they want to see 1099's? Being that I was contracted, and not an employee, will that slow down the process? Also, when they do employment verification, do they just want names and numbers of people to call and verify, or will they want to see W2's and earnings statements?

Thanks,

Michael

Hi Michael,

Hard to say. The background check's depth likely varies by role -- positions dealing with customer data will likely require a different background check than a manual labor job. Best to be as prepared as possible just in case.

Good luck!

For me, it was odd.

I was sent a referal and a I applied, it was fairly simplistic.

For there, I was connected again and told to apply for an actual position.

About a week later, I was contacted again, and was told to do an hour long test, I passed and was scheduled for a Phone interview. The phone interview itself was actually pretty easy (Seriously its situational stuff I was applying for customer service at GE Capital), depending on how well you do, they will ask you to set up in person interview.
You will also be asked to fill out a long form application, Print that out, the consent form and about 3 copies of your resume.

The actual in person interview was the same, LOTS of situational questions.

In my case, they had a fast turn around and contacted me with an offer the next day.

Currently getting things together and waiting on this background check. I don't have any thing to worry about, worst thing on my record is a ticket for expired tags hahah.

I have applied to a few jobs with GE Aviation in the Strother Field area, and I am very interested in seeking employment there within a Cell Group Leader Role in Arkansas City. I have very diversified aerospace, defense, and management experience and proudly served in Iraq and Afghanistan. I was wondering how long does the recruiting process take after "under review".Does this mean I will get a phone call? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi,

It varies -- a few weeks, but sometimes as long as month depending on the job. I gather by your post that you are a veteran, so you might be interested in our veteran job listings: www.ge.com/veterans.

Thank you for your service!
