What are the average starting salaries, bonuses, benefits and travel requirements like at GEICO? What do you like best about working at GEICO? Are there any great perks or special treats for employees? |

I heard the profit sharing is good but you won't be able to get 100% after working there for 6 years. No 401K matching though. |

I have been there for five years and profit sharing has been close to 20% or more of eligible salaries every year. The bonuses are easy to get sometimes, but then they raise the goals and it gets harder again. Overall, I have doubled my hiring salary in the time I have been there but that includes my bonuses and profit sharing in that. It is like any other job, it has ups and downs. Try auto sales, they seem to have the best pay rates and the most fun. I will warn you the WORST part about GEICO is they are NOT family friendly. If you are sick, your child is sick, you are on your death bed, you get in a car accident, you break your neck, IF YOU CAN MOVE AT ALL YOU BETTER BE AT WORK NO MATTER WHAT. Otherwise, you are the weakest link, goodbye. You have to maintain a 98 % dependability NO MATTER WHAT or they will find a way to not make it worth your while to hang around. With that said if you can take making GEICO the center of your universe you can make some good money and get along pretty well. |

Also, I think the starting salary for sales is around 30,000. And they give you 100% 401k company contributions after 5 years now in Fredericksburg. Also, they may not have 401k match but they do put 10% of the profit sharing you get into the 401k every year you get it and the rest is in your hand cash after taxes. Hope this info helps. |

Last addition, the dental plan doesn't barely cover anything but is cheap to participate in, NO maternity leave, what did I tell you about missing time?!?!?!, no short term disabilty, by the time the long term disability kicks in you'll probably be bankrupt, but again the coverage is cheap, and the medical benefits are banging but expensive (about 150 every two weeks for an employee and spouse covered). I do think the contest stink now, they used to give cash, then they started giving gift certificates, now you can barely win anything that isn't cheap junk. I would personally rather they give me the money they would have spent on the cheap junk in profit sharing that year. Another good job might be the fraud department within GEICO, seems pretty exciting. :) |

Are Geico associates required to purchase Geico car insurance? Thanks. |

No, you don't have to purchase GEICO car insurance but I will say that especially in GA they are reducing their premiums on auto and give an employee discount. So you actually might make out with a super low premium by switching. Hope this helps. :) |

Oh yeah, I noticed I didn't mention this earlier, local companies give each region discounts and also GEICO auto policy holders get discounts with certain companies as well. Check out GEICO.com for the policy holder discounts. :) |

Thank you so much for your response. That is good to know that I am not required to purchase; but, if I am offered a position, it will be worth looking into anyway. Thanks again:-) -Jes |

It is a great place to work considering it is a call center. I have been with them for a long time and there IS maternity leave in the form of Medical Leave. There is no Short Term Disability coverage which is a disadvantage, but the insurnace coverage for health is really great (I have had several major surgeries on it) and the dental insurance is what most employers offer. Depending on the department you can make a lot of money. I would suggest for your sanity to go into the sales department and try and get promoted off the phones. Also, GEICO does not consider an Associates degree a college degree or education. You must have a Bachelors to be considered college educated. |

Hello. I was wondering about a job in sales or customer service. The website says paid training. But I wanted to know how much do you get paid for training and typically how long is it for each position. I would like this for the Woodbury,NY location. Thanks |
|
peacefulpauper in fredericksburg, Virginia 39 months ago |
I don't know about NY but I would suppose they are talking about the one to two week training you get before you go to take the licensing test for the state and then if you pass that you would get anywhere from six to eight weeks of paid training for sales or service before they put you on the phone. You have to learn the systems, how to handle a inbound call, etc. So you are looking at max 2 and a half months of paid training if you make it past the licensing exam. I hope this helps. :) |

I hear a lot about the stress in the CSR and sales positions which makes sense. But what about IT positions? How is the work environment at Geico if you are a programmer or a IT specialist? What is the turnover like in IT? |
|
peacefulpauper in fredericksburg, Virginia 38 months ago |
The IT's in my department have been the same forever so not really any turn around there but I don't know about stress. They seem to be pretty happy so I can't imagine it is too stressful. :) |

My question is if you got hired (in Fredericksburg) and training starts 11/16/09, but how do I know if I passed all of the background checks ? I didn't want to go and give my current employer a two weeks notice and then not pass my background check and even up with no job ! I am not worried about the physical and drug test I took...I know they will be good ! Please give me some advice to easy my mind :) Thanks |
|
peacefulpauper in fredericksburg, Virginia 31 months ago |
You would not have gotten a date to start training had you not passed the credit/background check. That I am sure of. Congrats on your new job by the way. I hope you like it. :) Do you know what department you ended up in? |

That is pretty shocking. They usually will run all that up front just to keep from wasting time. You know the low cost provider. ;) I hope you get the job but I will let you know you have have to have nerves of steel. It is an extremely stressful job. But worth it. :) |

When I worked there for myself, my daughter, and my husband, it ran about 250 every two weeks for the best ppo coverage they had. It was awesome insurance too. :) |

Unfortunately without a degree the highest you can be promoted is to a supervisor position, and even that will be harder without an degree, but yea its possible. ones with a college degree will obviously get the priority over you. You definitely need a bachelors or masters degree to move anything beyond a supervisor such as to be a sales manager.

April 25, 2012... I'm looking to apply to the Virginia Beach location. I'm just not sure which department is the best fit for me; sales, service or claims. I'm a single parent so of course the starting pay is very important. I've heard Sales pay the best? My concern is that I'm not very aggressive so I may not be a good fit for sales. Can anyone give me any feedback? |

Hi - I work in GEICO's corporate HR dept., saw your post and reached out to our VA Beach office. Leigh, on our VA Beach hiring team, would be happy to have an informational call with you to talk about our opportunities and what your interests are. Feel free to call the office, M-F between 9-4. You can find the HR number here: careers.geico.com/give_us_a_call, just ask for Leigh. I hope this helps! |

That is one thing I will always credit them for is their awesome training and coaching of their people. As far as you being a single mom, please make sure you have at least two backups for your regular babysitter including someone who will watch him/her while he/she is sick or you are setting yourself up for failure. See my earlier comments about their attendance policy. |

Unfortunately, that number listed is an automated job line and I was not given the option to speak to anyone. |

I'm just wondering which department would be the best fit for me... I read that there are no cold sales so I'm wondering if I have a fighting chance? haha I just know that I am not the most aggressive at sales. As for the attendance policy, that is crazy... do they not offer sick/paid time off??? |

They do give sick leave and vacation time but when I was there you couldn't miss any time in the first six months and it doesn't really matter the situation if you miss unscheduled time youbare fired. Sick leave is given but its almost like you can't use it. I know a lot of people that like claims but I hear they are making you cross sell in every department so why not get paid sales salary and bonuses? :-) |
