Can anyone shed any light on GE Health care opportunities (i.e. salaries, benefits, hiring process, etc)

Could you be more specific about why you feel GE is not a place to be right now? I am considering a position with this company and a friend is also considering a position. More specifics would be greatly appreciated.

The question really is what area are you going into? In general, the healthcare and specifically the medical device industry is in a slump in the US. GEHC hasn't had a significant quarter of growth in 5-6 quarters; this is mainly driven by the deficit reduction act and the fact customers aren't spending as much $$$ on capitol DI equipment (CT/MR).

Some areas are doing well such as x-ray, parts of U/S and of course services. The thing about GE is that just because your group makes $$$ doesn't mean you get to spend it.

I did a lot of work in IT/Process (Lean 6 sigma), and it was real frustrating not to get the necessary funding to drive real business change.

If you like execution and metric driven cultures, GE is awesome, I've def. learned a great deal about how to drive pure execution focus and the definition of operational excellence. Plus, the global experience I got was beyond valuable...

If you let me know what job/area you are thinking about going into I can provide more input.

Hey Matt -- I know that this thread is quite old, but maybe you're still out there somewhere to help me out.

I am currently a junior at Michigan State and a few days ago GE appeared at a career fair that MSU hosted. I prepared very well and received a "drink date" with the recruiter that same night at the local Marriott hotel bar (for an internship in the CLP). The next day I called and thanked him for the drinks and the hospitality... and I haven't heard back from him. Would you happen to know the vetting process of a candidate in my position for the CLP? I'm just wondering how long I should wait for him to contact me before I should assume that I am no longer a candidate.

Any help would be great. Thanks so much.

Hi Michigan State Guy --- I have experience with GE and am not sure what the CLP acronym stand for. GE loves their acronyms. From the Healthcare perspective - the current plan is to hire contractors and expense out their salaries. If you are hired on, plan to work A LOT -- 50-60 hours per week can be the norm. The recruiter may not have contacted you because the position was canceled or incorporated into another listing. Please, don't put all your eggs in one basket -- you are young, and it will suck the life out of you if you work there. Granted, you will get valuable experience, but is it worth your sanity?
