I was offered a tour of a GE facility, through a friend-of-a-friend kind of thing. I sat in this guys office and we discussed GE, the culture, etc. What I got surprised even me. I guess as an outsider I was not a "threat" and this guy really opened up. Had been at GE over 20 years and hated it, felt he was just a number, and was always haunted by the knowledge that he was only one review away from being on his way out. His past successes meant nothing. He felt stuck and was very, very angry.

I decided to NEVER apply to a GE position.

Some of the top management moved from GE to Philips and it was the same feeling working for Philips, the exective vp of service, was fired for sexual harasment by Mr. Dobbs (it was kept very quite) who also left the company between both they really made a mess and collected their fat pay check ! We didn't received an increase that year.

Dobbs wasn't much better he moved on to another company to see what damage he could do.

Best advice is you really don't want to work for GE or Philips !!!!
