Do you work at Gecko Hospitality? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview? Any advice for someone trying to get in? |

Don't bother applying or calling [name removed] about these Columbus, Ohio positions. He doesn't reply and he doesn't return phone calls. |

The job search is a numbers game. Meaning: One has to make many contacts before getting a job offer. True, there are the outfits that'll leave you twisting in the wind. Don't dwell on those guys. Instead, grind-out a resume or think about other opportunities. They aren't the only pig in the poke! |

Well, if you're not qualified for a position, then why should they call you? Gecko deals with restaurant managers and if you don't have experience managing restaurants, you're not qualified for the positions they advertise for. |

I am an experienced restaurant manager and haven't had a good experience with this company at all. I got a call from one of the recruiters, called him back and set up a phone interview. I asked the guy if I should call him at the specified time and he said, no he would call me. That time came and went and nothing. So I figured they didn't have anything in my area. Three days later the same guy called me and left me a message that he would like to set up an interview with me, like he had never spoken to me before. Against my better judgment I gave him another shot. Set up the interview, 15 minutes after the appointed time I still hadn't heard from him and called him, he said he would call me back in 5 minutes. 15 minutes later I finally got a call. Going through the questions with him I told him my location and told him I wasn't relocatable. Then he started going through the list of companies that I would be willing to work for, he kept listing places that were 4 hours from where I lived. Needless to say I haven't heard back. The recruiter I dealt with was far from professional. |

It is sad that this is happening in the East but I have had nothing but great experiences in Las Vegas. |

There is a place in this world for "head hunters"! I applied to interview with a national restaurant chain two times and never received a reply. Gecko Hospitality had me an interview with the same company in one day! After three interviews and an extensive background check, I was hired! Gecko has direct contact with the managers doing the interviewing and hiring. Gecko is able to cut through all the "red tape" and get you in. The rest is up to you. You need to have a solid background and lots of energy. The fee, usually paid by the restaurant company, is not cheap. We are talking thousands of dollars for placement and these companies want their monies worth. |

I had a job at a very large, stable company as an executive chef. While it was a stable company the people I worked with were a PITA, not really worth quitting over, but when a recruiter from Gecko called me with an "amazing" opportunity with a substantial bump in salary (I have no idea how he got my resume, I guess it was still active from a previous job search on a job board somewhere)I decided to check it out. The recruiter sold me on this postion and I was given the impression this company was in its begining stages with lots of room for advancement, so I left my "stable" company (HUGE mistake!) and went to work with this company that had NO idea how to run a restaurant (or a casino for that matter). Anyway 2 years in I got laid off. I contacted said recruiter again to see if he had anything available and he tried to sell me on some crappy position in Dodge City, Kansas. This would not have been so bad except for the fact that I am married and have a kid, and Dogde City Kansas is not an ideal place to raise a family. I voiced these concerns and he somehow talked me into interviewing anyway. I was offered the postion which I subsequently turned down, I am pretty sure these people also had no idea what they were doing. They ended up hiring someone else not referred by Gecko and I guess this recruiter is now pissed because he will not return my calls or emails. I guess he was okay helping me after he got his 10k for placing me with the first crappy position, but was then pissed that he didn't make anything off me because I was smart enough to see through his BS about the 2nd crappy position. In reality it is his own fault for trying to place someone in a postion that was not a good match! I now avoid recruiters like the plauge, they will say anything to get their fee. |
